The Chicago Cubs today optioned pitcher Carlos Marmol and infielder Scott Moore to West Tenn (AA). In addition, the club reassigned the following players to minor league camp: pitchers Brian Boehringer and Carmen Pignatiello, infielder Brandon Sing and outfielders Buck Coats and Adam Greenberg.

 

The camp training roster now stands at 48 players - 10 of whom are non-roster invitees. The positional breakdown of players remaining in major league camp: 23 pitchers, seven catchers, nine infielders and nine outfielders.

There was a blurb in one of the Cubs.com articles that Sing was having problems with allergies / his contact lenses getting too dry and was having to switch to glasses, which made him uncomfortable hitting. That was given as a reason he hadn't been playing at all lately.

I've lived that Hell before and didn't have to hit 95 MPH fastballs too! I've always wondered how contacts going crazy would effect a MLB type player.

The catchers are needed for the pitchers to throw to. With both the regular catchers in the WBC any minor league catchers are still on the roster.

Dude Sabo was awesome. Don't knock him.

 

That used to be my nickname when I was a kid because I wore those sports glasses as well. 8)

i'm not knocking him. He figured out how not to have contact lens problems. It's a shame that more major leaguers did not follow the lead of this brave pioneer
