This is pretty amazing. Not surprising, but amazing. Everybody "knew" Bonds was on steroids, now everybody KNOWS. There is a profound difference.

The research in this book is exhausting and the proof appears to be overwhelming. 'Course, that doesn't mean he won't deny it for 10 years (Rose) but he isn't going to be able to deny his way out of this one.

He had to know this was coming, there is no way word of this book didn't leak back to him. The most telling thing is that he hasn't filed a slander suit and or an injunction to stop publication, which he would do if he had a leg to stand on. No publishing company would print these allegations if they couldn't back it up. It's not a used syringe in his hand, but it is as close to one as you're going to get.

The only way this goes away is if he does.

wow it sure is fun and cool to hate barry bonds

Haha.

Seriously though, I think the words "fun" and "cool" will probably be the last words that come to mind if Bonds is allowed to break the most sacred record in baseball. You know, with confetti flying and ESPN fools hurling superlatives.

If it was to happen, and they were to give him a chocolate colored Corvette or some such nonsense, I might even vomit.

He was taking a lot more than just "steroids", so it's easy to see how that could improve your skills tremendously, especially with a guy who was already pretty great like Bonds was.

I assume that you are being sarcastic, since that's often your approach, so I must ask: Why are you mocking those who dislike him? Hasn't he done plenty to make a reasonable person find him abhorent?

Agreed.

BTW, what was the name of that guy that made chest-thumping, finger pointing denials of steroid use and threatened to sue Jose Canseco for libel?

Oh yeah, Rafael Palmeiro - never mind.

Nah, too many people are on this particular bandwagon for me to consider it cool. Sure is fun, though.

I don't think this article or book will have any effect. People made up their mind on Bonds long ago.

I've never liked Bonds....who does? And I'd always suspected he used, but for some crazy reason this article actually got me more angry than any previous steroids article. Maybe it's just because it spelled out exactly the though process and actions he was taking rather than the all encomassing "he's on the juice" phrase...maybe it's because I was in denial over a lot of the steroid controversy, who knows...but this article got me mad. I've always hoped Barry wouldn't break the record, but now his breaking it would actually anger me. I've always thought those that wanted to somehow alter the record books to take out the 'Roid users were crazy, but now I find myself trying to figure out how we can "untaint" the game. I guess I was just pretty naive about the whole thing...I guess that's what really has me angry.

Anyway, like you said my mind was made up long ago on Bonds, but the article still had an effect on me.

But I'd bet you will get very few Bonds supporters to change sides. Without a smoking gun (basically a positive test) this is just going to fester.

If Pete Rose received a lifetime ban for gambling, then Barry should receive ten. I don't care HOW good he was before he took the roids his actions are irreprehensible. IMO, this means no Cooperstown, no jersey retirement, no anything.

Simply put, Barry Bonds is a disease to the human race. He's an ahole, a cheater, a liar, and a downright disgraceful citizen. Playing in the MLB is a privelage, not a right, and for him to have a consistent disregard to the fans, the integrity of the game, and a sense of truth is downright. I CAN'T believe anyone actually rooted for this guy.

How good do Ruth and Aaron look now. They should have own wing in the hall if this what guys have to do hit as many homeruns as they did.

Unfortunately, steroids weren't against the rules when he was reportedly taking them, so it's hard to justify such a ban for a guy that technically didn't break a rule. The gambling rule was longstanding and well know. The lack of a steroid rule was also longstanding and well known.

Bonds is just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't know about that. I think he is a big part of the iceberg. The tip were those first couple suspensions, obscure role players nobody would miss. Raffy was a bigger chunk of the iceberg, but Bonds is a major portion.

Just for that I'm taking Eddie away.

In light of your historic avoidance of avatar and signature pics in the fear that it will divulge your true identity and somehow provide GPS coordinates to your exact location, I found it more shocking than the idea that Paula Abdul's stunt double has been using performance enhancers.

Of course, there was the alternative theory floated by Abuck that you were too technologically challenged to figure out how to use the image function, but adherence to that idea would have forced me to give Abuck a scintilla of credibility.

My guess (and its only a guess) is that the crackdown has already claimed or had an effect on the majority of violators. I remember last year, late into the season, a report from ESPN that Bonds still hadn't been tested despite the fact that the Giants had been tested twice by MLB. While I understand that players on the DL are still subject to testing, I don't know how that is reconciled with players that are prescribed steroids as part of their recovery. It seems like a built in defense, and terribly convenient for Bonds and baseball.

You may be right. Perhaps my idea of violators is skewed by they lack of hulk-like behemoths like Bonds. However, I think there is now too much to lose for a massive number of players to be in violation.

Then again, I'm the one who thinks Steve Stone is generally dead on, so...

This is probably the reason why the Players Association/MLB agreed to the World games. They knew they were going to take a hit big time and are trying to get some good publicity before the you know what hits the fan. Edited by CuseCubFan69
