Still tied for first place (14-6, 17-25 overall, tied for the second worst winning percentage in the Big Ten), still haven't won a non-conference game since late February. Unbelievable.

Ryan Strieby is a monster for Uk. 6-foot-6, good power the other way, hits for a high average, very patient, doesn't strike out a lot. Plays a pretty good 1st base too.

 

DeJesus is only a Sophomore and has been struggling the last few weeks. His numbers were amazing through mid-April. In a little slump now though. Great range in center, pretty good arm, fast, great eye at the plate.

I went to the South Carolina-Citadel game on Tuesday night here in Charleston. Gamecocks won 12-3. We had awesome seats on the first row down the 3rd base line, so I've got some really nice pics from the game:

NU is still tied with Michigan and holds the tiebreaker with just a 4-game set left at Purdue (13-15) next weekend. Michigan hosts Iowa.

 

They play Illinois State tomorrow night for their last chance to improve their 3-20 non-conference record.

 

Brauer pitched a 7-inning no-hitter yesterday and was named one of three Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week.

UGH. So much for going wire-to-wire. NU lost 2 of the first 3 to Purdue and Iowa scored just 2 runs in their first 3 games against Michigan.

 

At least they'll get a bye in the tournament.
