UK is playing pretty well this year, right UK (heh)? i've never paid much attention to them because they've sucked, but they seem to be doing good this year. what do you think of the team?

They're a good team, they're something like 19-4 at this stage and Cohen has been an outstanding coach. Barnhart would be wise to try and lock him up. DeJesus is a very good player, Cowgill has been strong on offense as well. They've had very strong pitching performances as well.

UK has had a very easy schedule to date, they did take 2 of 3 from LSU and have split the 1st two vs. Tenn.

They haven't played the heart of the SEC schedule, which will determine how good they really are as knocking around teams like Cleveland St. doesn't give you an idea.

UK will always be at a disadvantage in the SEC, in Jan. when pre-season starts, most SEC teams (maybe Vandy and Tenn are the exceptions) are able to practice outdoors while most of UK's practices are indoors. Most recruits will look towards a southern school.

In case anyone was wondering, Northwestern has lost 11 in a row dating back to February 25th and is 3-15 on the season. They're running out of time, I'd say.

But hey, they're still in the Big Ten race.

BA listed ESPN's schedule of the regular season games for this season. 12 games, but only 1 on ESPN. If you have ESPNU you're in luck. Of course, I don't know anyone that does have it.

March 31	Texas at Oklahoma	ESPNU
April 1	Texas at Oklahoma	ESPNU
April 2	Texas at Oklahoma	ESPNU
April 14	Birmingham-Southern at Coastal Carolina	ESPNU
April 16	Missouri State at Wichita State	ESPNU
April 25	Purdue at Notre Dame	ESPNU
April 29	Alcorn State at Jackson State	ESPNU
April 30	Delaware State at North Carolina A&T	ESPNU
May 12	Tennessee at South Carolina	ESPNU
May 13	Tennessee at South Carolina	ESPN
May 13	High Point at Winthrop	ESPNU
May 27	Big East Tournament Championship	ESPNU

So don't worry everyone, we won't have to miss ANY of the World Series of Poker.

We get ESPNU in the res halls!

I hate you. I don't even get ESPNU at home with Comcast.

Of course, ESPN Deportes is the one I really want.

Anybody know if there are any players worth watching for University Of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).... my window looks out towards their field from Right field (wrigley style), and it's free to go so I'll probably be seeing alot of games.

UIC is the best team in the Horizon, they'll probably have 2-3 players drafted.

Johnson is a solid C, can't remember if he's a Soph. or Junior.

Hallberg is a good 2B.

Gempp, I've watched since he was a Soph. at Grant HS and watched him at CLC (JUCO). He's a good LH'ed hitting OF'er best sutied at the top of the order.

Rosinski is a senior power hitting OF'er.

But, the two players to watch, especially on Fridays is Zink, who struggled somewhat his Soph. season after a great Fresh. year. Peterson is a another very good pitcher, who'll get drafted as well.

Woo. Despite going winless in March, we took 3 of 4 from Michigan this weekend, including a DH sweep yesterday afternoon.

Their first home game is Friday when they open up a series against Indiana.

How's Wycklendt looking?

Bad (.238/.281/.321), along with the rest of the offense. Among players with at least 50 ABs, we have exactly two who are hitting over .250. Mule has basically been it. He's hitting .386/.474/.518.

And our best starter ERA is 4.15. The others are above 5.00.

I'm still surprised the Astros signed Mark Ori, let alone drafted him. He was only a junior and gave no indication that he wanted to leave. I wonder how many more credits he needs to get his degree.

I don't know what scouts think of him, but stastically he's pretty damn good.

Here's the only thing I could find from BA, dated 8/25/05:

8. Antone DeJesus, of Duluth (Kentucky)

DeJesus appeared in every game for Kentucky as a freshman, batting .344/.425/.495 with 10 steals. He's a plus runner (13 steals) whose speed, glove work and average arm make for a strong center-field defender. DeJesus displays a good eye at the plate (.411 on-base percentage) and will not chase bad pitches early in counts before he shortens up with two strikes. His power comes from driving balls into gaps, and his hitting ability and approach reminded some of former Florida outfielder Jeff Corsaletti, who enjoyed a big NWL summer in 2004 before an excellent senior year.
