I'm well known for it, so allow me to get the first complaint about the umps in. that's Cedeno getting "thrown out" at second on a steal attempt. I was able to catch this point of the game on the radio and you could tell Pat didn't agree with the call.

hard to tell from a still pic, but it looks like the fielder hasn't made the tag yet.

Isn't that Barrett? He's normally number 5. Looking at the box score it looks like there's no SB or CS from him, so I guess you're right.

Boy, the suspense is killing me. I hate not being able to watch or listen. This must be how my grandpa did it when he was a kid.

He followed along on the internet?

Yes, but he probably only had a Pentium I.

After a bit of thought, I've concluded that this joke makes an excellent divider between young and old nerds.

Barrett gave Nomar his No. 5 when Nomar was traded here in 2004 and took No. 8. When Nomar wasn't retained by the Cubs and Jacque Jones took No. 11 (Ronny's number in 2005), Ronny Cedeno took No. 5. Either he paid Barrett handsomely or Barrett just decided to let the youngin' have the number.

Great game today!! (and I came here to read the whole thread to see what you all had to say!!)

I especially liked the inning where Murton and Cedeno both hit to score a run! And when Pierre Bunted to get on 1st moving everyone over in the process!! I can deffinatly see this team playing small ball, SUCCESSFULLY this year. And I'm looking foward to more of that!

I know it's just 1 ST game, but they looked good. Maybe they actually CAN score that guy from 3rd with less than 2 outs! If they can start doing that, we are gonna be in good shape this year!

Sportscenter's recap of the game consisted of showing the 3 A's homers. Oh yeah and the Cubs won 8-7.

Kind of a refreshing change from Sosa homers and, oh yeah, CUBS lose, no?

They need those for when they show a highlight of one of the A's after they get traded. You HAVE TO have a Cub out there when showing a highlight of any player doing something good.
