I'm sure a lot have herad the rumblings started by this article by Barry Rozner. So, now that Dunn appears to set to stay in OH for the near future, and we have nothing better to speculate about, what do we think it will take to get Tejada at this point in the spring? Would we still have to give up Prior/Zambrano, or would we be able to get away with obtaining Tejada for prospects?

The best rationale for us getting Tejada without giving up Prior or Zambrano is that the Orioles realize they were asking too much from all potential suitors last time around.

I would stay away, but for different reasons that Rozner would. Rozner seems averse to acquiring Tejada due to attitude concerns. I'm not convinced the guy's got a bad attitude, so i wouldn't stay away for that reason... However, i do think the O's were asking too much for him last time around and would only do the deal if it were something like two of Hill/Guzman/Williams and Pie for Tejada.

Tejada instead of Cedeno is not going to turn this team into a playoff team if it isn't already x100 if we lose Prior or Z in the deal. Just let the kids play and see what happens. It is especially foolish to deal Prior or Z when we are more than likely losing Wood and Maddux after this season.

I don't know that that is true. Tejada over Cedeno is a good bet for 125-200 extra points in OPS. Basically, you would be going to the 3rd best player on the offense from what is likely to be the 8th best. That could make a difference in a huge number of games especially when you consider defense is at least similar, and everyone else in the lineup moves down a spot (i.e. Jones not hitting 5th).

Now, if you want to argue that the upgrade isn't worth the salary difference or the players it would cost to get Tejada, that's a different story.

If Ronny isn't hitting and we're looking at Neifi every day, I still wouldn't give up Prior or Z for Tejada. Our need for SS production b/c of our weak OF shouldn't push us into make a stupid long term move. We're not that close to winning a WS that we need to trade away a 26 year old pitcher for a 30 year old SS.

There are easier ways to acquire some offense other than a Prior for Tejada swap. All we're doing is trading away one piece for another, with no replacement for Prior in the works.

I think we should give Cedeno a chance to play everyday. If he's not hitting, then take a look at Tejada in July.

I disagree. If we're going to get Tejada, i think now is the time to do it. I fell that players usually cost more at the trade deadline than they do before the season begins, and it will cost us more in July than it would today.

Think of it this way: if we play Cedeno and he plays poorly, then we have a clear need for an upgrade at SS. That means we should be willing to pay more for Tejada, and the O's would be able to get more out of us.

I wouldn't be wholly opposed to it if the price was right, but as soon as the Orioles GM asks for Prior or Z, I'd hang up the phone.

They value both of them highly but were willing to consider giving one of them up because Hendry believes Tejada ranks behind only two other players, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez. You can argue you never should trade young pitchers who can dominate, but Tejada forced Hendry to consider making an exception.

I can name a few off the top of my head I would rather have than Miggy in my top five players in the game.

I disagree. From what I saw last yr, I like what Cedeno did. No need to trade for Tejada, when the Cubs already have a solid option.

Well, guess what...Tejada won't be the only SS available. Julio Lugo will no doubtably be available. Bill Hall, Felipe Lopez, Guillen (ok, I'm pulling this one from my butt), etc could be available during the season. No need to overpay for Tejada, when very solid option will be available for less then what it will take to get Tejada.

No need to make a panic move in spring training.

No need to make a panic move, agreed. But Cedeno.......I hope he turns out, but I've seen too many players do well their first 100 ABs only to watch the league figure them out, and their production plummet. We will find out this year. I hope he's for real, just not sure yet.
