Or is this the team we go to Chicago with. I'm beginning to think Walker may still be with the Club come opening day. And until I see Kerry throwing in a live game I don't see a pitcher being moved. Are the off season transactions done?

I think one more bench player is needed. But I don't see a deal happening. I think the only deal you may see is a guy like Wellemeyer or Koronka traded for a low level minor leaguer, to clear a 40-man spot.

I definately see Wellemeyer being moved, unless a injury happens, which is why I think the Cubs will wait until after the WBC to move him. As far as them picking up another bench player, I don't think there is room on the 25 man for another bench player. Maybe a minor league deal.

As far as I see walker should be in our starting lineup batting two as long as theres not deal to aquire a two hitter. Hes much better hitter than both Nefi or Hariston and I'd hate to see us not use his bat in the line up. My friend was telling me in the trib they were saying he is number 3 on the depth chart at 2nd. Please unless we make a deal with him included and get a better two hitter leave him where he belongs.

I think Hendry intended to move Walker, but it wasn't a move at all costs type situation. He probably believed Walker's value was high enough to net the outfield bat he wanted such as Ibanez, Floyd, Mench, etc. When that didn't occur, he would have still moved Walker in the right deal. I think now he's in a quandry. He never intended Walker to be a part of the team, but he's left with keeping him or giving him away for less than what he would like.

Walker could still be traded, but I also could see a scenario where he plays well enough that trading him is no longer an option.

I don't think the question can be answered until spring training unfolds. Willingness to deal a rotation pitcher might depend on how Wood, Prior, Miller, Guzman, Hill, and Williams look. Willingness to deal Wellemeyer, and how much you get for him, might depend on how many if any Cub pitchers end up with arm trouble and go on the 60-day DL. The 2B situation could depend on how Walker and Hairston look in camp, and on how things go in other team camps in terms of their needs.

Every trade requires two partners. Hendry's willingness to pay the cost required to acquire 2B target X obviously depends on Cub factors: a) how our 2B look and thus how desparate he is to get a replacement, and b) how our pitchers look because acquired a 2B will obviously cost us some pitching. Do we have it to spare?

But every trade also depens on the other partner, and on their needs. How much they demand in trade will depend in turn on how their 2B alternatives look, in the even that they trade X. But also on how their pitching looks (how desparate are they to add the kind of pitching that Hendry is willing to sell?)

Too soon to tell how all of these interrelated factors will play out. Perhaps if nobody lowers their price, or if nothing happens in camp to soothe anxieties about our pitching depth, nothing much changes. But if things happen so that other team(s) lower price, or so that our pitching looks safer so that we can better afford to part with somebody, I wouldn't be surprised to see something still happen. But not until spring has gone deep enough for teams to get some meaningful feedback on their guys.

At least a month from that point.

What about Tony Graffanino, he would be an upgrade defensively and he hit over .300. He shouldn't be to hard to get since he is just playing a utlity roll with the Redsox.

I doubt Graffanino would outproduce Todd Walker or Jerry Hairston in a full season.

I hope Walker is on this team opening day. He's by far the best 2B option we have.

But, that makes me think Neifi will start at SS if Walker starts and 2B.

Hey Vance! Love your sig! Okay, I know this post has nothing to do with the thread! Yada, yadda, yadda!

I still wish the Cubs could have plucked Julio Lugo away from TB, although I imagine they wanted too much. Hendry already vastly overpaid for Pierre, couldn't really afford to go above and beyond for Julio I imagine.
