Great tune - thanks for the link Aramis Fan.

There are two times a year when I wonder if I ever will see a Cubs championship in my lifetime: Now, just before ST (hope springs eternal and all that sheah), and whenever the Cubs fall out of contention.

And year after year, that imaginary TradeSports contract Cubs Championship Before FergieJ31 Kicks Bucket just keeps ticking lower and lower :(

The refrain couldn't be more true...

"Do they still play the blues in Chicago,

when baseball season rolls around?

When the snow melts away, do the Cubbies still play

in their ivy-covered burial ground?

When I was a boy they were my pride and joy,

but now they only bring fatiuge.

To the home of the brave, the land of the free,

and the doormats of the National League."

I found the song download today for Fred and I thought the rest of nsbb should get it if they don't already have it. It is not im mp3 format thought... its in real one player format (.ram).

You will see it on the left side of the page where it says "audio moment"

With each passing year, I listen to that tune and it strikes a little bit closer to home.

Go CUBS !!

Same guy who did "Go Cubs Go" apparently :)

Cute song. Made me think of my Dad----who died having never seen a Cubs Championship. A fate which I suspect we will all share.

The song was written by Steve Goodman, whose most famous song was City of New Orleans (a hit for Arlo Guthrie). He was a native Chicagoan and Cub fan who died in 1984 - just before the Cubs won their division.

And let's never forget the 2003 home playoffs, when the entire stadium broke into the refrain to "Go Cubs Go." Of course, since those the only lyrics anyone knew, they just repeated it for about 5 minutes.

Does anyone know if any other major league teams have similar songs? I know the White Sox have that "Go Go White Sox" song, but I know nothing about the rest of MLB.

Almost all teams with substantial histories have had one or another at some point in their franchise. A buddy of mine still occasionally sings "'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Number One". It was catchy back in the day, but it's getting a bit old.

The 84 playoffs would surely have killed him if he hadn't died when he did.

Almost killed me and I was just a kid.

The Cards version is done by Dolly Parton. I think it's called Redbird Nation.

The White Sox have another one:

Mommas don't let your babies grow up to be Sox fans

they'll never wear a shirt

or wash off the dirt

and there mullet will seem such a shame

I can't remember the rest of the words

That would have been cool 20 years ago when Dolly was hot.

That song was on X Country? I just had a brain freeze, I just EXPECTED it to be the MLB channel. BTW what is the MLB xradio channel on Direct TV? I've NEVER checked to see if maybe my package carries it, I want to now. .
