Isn't it about time for a title alteration since this deal has been pulled and doesn't seem likely to actually occur?

Probably should get a title change. Looks like the deal is barely holding on.

Ohio Beacon Journal

As the sun began to set over Northeast Ohio late Thursday afternoon, it appeared the chances of the Indians and Boston Red Sox consummating a trade for Coco Crisp had diminished to almost nothing.

To varying degrees, both teams seem prepared to move on, now that the Tribe has rejected Boston reliever Guillermo Mota on the basis of the results of a physical taken earlier this week.

The anxious Red Sox were not yet ready to give up entirely, given their desperate need for an outfielder to take the place of departed free agent Johnny Damon.

Looks like this deal might finally be done pending Aurthur Rhodes physical in Philly.

Cleveland Indians' MLB site

Arthur Rhodes' physical will determine whether or not the Coco Crisp-to-Boston deal finalizes or fizzles.

Rhodes was in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon taking a physical that would complete a trade sending the 36-year-old reliever from the Indians to the Phillies in exchange for outfielder Jason Michaels, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Once that deal goes through, the source said, the Indians and Red Sox would agree to a trade sending Crisp to the Red Sox.

The Indians would send the center fielder, reliever David Riske and backup catcher Josh Bard to Boston for reliever Guillermo Mota, third base prospect Andy Marte, catching prospect Kelly Shoppach and further compensation in the form of cash or a player to be named later.

That trade could need the approval of the Commissioner's office depending on the amount of the potential cash transaction.

But the whole house of cards hinged on the Rhodes physical.

Rotoworld/Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Rhodes passed his physical.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Red Sox and Indians have agreed to the trade that would send Coco Crisp, David Riske and Josh Bard to Boston for Andy Marte, Guillermo Mota, Kelly Shoppach, a player to be named and cash.

The only remaining hurdle was Arthur Rhodes, which he's reportedly passed. Whether that means we'll get an official announcement tonight remains to be seen. Jan. 27 - 8:08 pm et

Brad Wilkerson's career line:

.256/.365/.452/.817

He turns 29 next season, fyi. He doesn't have the speed to play CF, but apparently does not have the power to play a corner position.

Why did I think his numbers were better than this?

Wow, what a serious of trades for the Indians. Mota is more valuable than Rhodes, Michaels is similar to Crisp and then they add top prospect Marte and Shoppach for backup catcher Bard a solid reliever in Riske. Wow.

They have an excellent GM.

It's mid to late November. The Indians have just Westbrook, Sabathia and Lee pencilled into their 2006 rotation, Paul Byrd and Jason Johnson aren't in the picture yet, Kevin Millwood's still around but his departure is only a matter of time with what he's asking for, especially because the Indians want to spend their money on Brian Giles. If the Cubs had offered Nolasco, Pinto and Mitre for Crisp there and then, do you think the Indians would have rejected it out of hand?

I think they would have rather had Williams than Mitre. But your point is well made. And welcome back!

Where can we get one of these Coco Crisps? In 660PA, BP predicts him to equal the offensive output of the entire Cubs starting outfield (1730PA).

We would have had to give up a precious reliever.
