Do you know the numbers that Dominique Byrd put up? I have heard that the Bears are very interested in him and are thinking about taking him.

Haven't seen anything yet. I'll post them when I see them.

With all apologies to Gonzalez, Gates, Ditka, and Winslow.....Davis is possibly the best athlete in the history of the TE position with those numbers. WOW!

I think he did the 225 bench 33 times also, which is ridiculous.

God bless America Vernon Davis is a freak. I wonder what it would take for the Bears to move up early enough to take him. Probably not gonna happen, based on the fact that the Bears never move up, but geez. I bet he could make a immediate impact on the Bears offense.

Goony, the more I think about it, the more I agree with you. Other than Davis, there is no real standout TE. Pope seems the best of the next large group, but not by much and not enough to warrent a first round pick. I think we could get a pretty decent TE (If we even draft one, which I'm not entirely sure we will anymore) in the 2nd or 3rd.

We are really in a good position in the draft and from what I have heard (about who we are talking to etc.) I see us taking CB's and WR's before TE now. I know we've talked to:

Devin Hester

“It went pretty good,” Hester said of his interview with the Bears. “They need a great return guy as well as a nickel back, and it sounds like I’m one guy they’re looking at.”

Danieal Manning, a defensive back from Division II Abilene Christian, is someone the Bears also showed interest at the combine. When asked about Manning, general manger Jerry Angelo said the team hadn’t “gotten into him as in depth” as far as he knew. However, Chicago scouts have talked with Manning on more than one occasion.

I know we've talked to Chad Jackson and S. Moss. It looks like we are looking for more speed. I also am getting the feeling that we aren't going to go after Randall El if the pricetag is too high. I'm happy about that.

Honestly, I have no idea what we are going to do.

The good thing is that at this point it doesn't matter as much what they do, unlike in past years. The Bears aren't completely without need at any position (except MAYBE D-line), and they aren't completely hopeless at any position (like they were at WR last offseason). Anyone they draft, if they pan out, will make an already solid team better.

A good offseason would be to gain at least 1 FA starter and draft one player on each side of the ball, who can step in and play a factoring role.

Hmmm. I'm definitely still thinking Pope works as a late 1st rounder, although I've heard character questions arise and Angelo usually steers clear of those. Very few linebackers would have a chance at covering a 6'7" TE who runs a 4.6

You mean like Tank Johnson?

Wait, so some tight end ran as fast or faster than all but 4 of the cornerbacks? Yikes.

Watch him move way up based on phenomenal workout numbers and then turn out to be a colossal bust.

Davis sounds like he's amazing I really dont care who we get a TE as long as he is some what of a offensive threat. I'd love Adam at K, but he'll be asking to much as I said.

Top 50 NFL Free Agents.

Names of interest for me.

Chris Hope- S (PIT)

Will Witherspoon- LB (CAR)

Will Allen- CB (NYG)

Antwaan Randle El- WR (PIT)

i say go CB and move peanut to safety, let him fight it out with chris harris. i'd almost give ty law a look, he's a physical playmaker--that's what we've built our defense on.

I'm afraid of Ty getting burnt a lot.

Randle El first then I say CB, but the least pricey one because ty law is way to pricey.

That's why I pointed out Will Allen. He's a lot like Tillman, though. Good size for a CB, but has lapses in coverage. A ton of talent though. He should come cheap with the big names like Law and Woodson out there in FA and a ton of draft prospects to choose from.

I understand why people bash Tillman, but I also don't think anyone can reliably cover Steve Smith. Let's look at Ty Law's last decent season, 2003:

GS: 15

Solo: 60

Asst: 13

Sacks: 0

Int: 6

FF: 0

FR: 0

TDs: 1

Last year he played in 14 games and had 41 tackles, 6 Ints. He's 32.

Tillman last year:

GS: 15

Solo: 85

Asst: 11

Sacks: 1

Int: 5

FF: 4

FR: 1

TDs: 1

Last year was one of Till's best statistically. He's young.

Ty Law can't cover Steve Smith either, folks. It would be the height of insanity, IMO, to pay out a ton of cash for a guy like Law who is fading to replace Till at corner.

I would be for bringing in a young CB to develop behind Tillman. See what happens next year. If Till drops off, you would have a young, cheap option at CB and could move Tillman to safety in '07. I would *draft* a CB, not acquire an expensive, old one in free agency.

Terrence Metcalf signed a contract extention yesterday.

That should lock up the line and clear the way for Ruben Brown's retirement.

Well deserved, by the way. Metcalf used to be a whipping boy of the fans. This year he developed into a solid player.
