My favorite had to be the game referenced above when he tied the game with a homer late, avoided Dusty in the dugout, then hit the walkoff later, only to have Dusty continue to harp in his ear.

The worst: easily after he tore his knee up, and Cub trainers let him walk off the field with his knee bowing back and forth. It was Thiesmanesque sick.

his inside the park homerun that rolled under the mats in right field. that summed up his skills pretty well.

The one early in his career? Silly J.D. Drew. That's certainly up there on my list.

My favorite moment, though, would be when he hit the wind-blown game-tying HR late in a game against the Pirates and then the walkoff HR in the 12th inning in mid-September of 2004. That was incredible.

loved to watch him run. I was at the 2003 opener - all I remember is cold.

I guess my favorite Corey moment was when I got his autograph in Milwaukee.

Obviously you weren't that little kid who Corey snubbed.

Memories:

- The inside-the-park HR in his rookie year (wearing #27).

- The 2003 season until that awful July day.

- The Pittsburgh 2-HR game (I called the second HR).

- He hit 2 HRs in a mostly disappointing extra inning home loss to the Expos at Wrigley, but I was at the game.

- Robbing Junior of that HR in Cincinatti.

- Hitting the GW HR on Derrek Lee day this past season.

The wind was fierce that day, my friend. I don't really remember Corey's HRs too well, though, since they both only brought the Cubs within a run.

And Lee's should've gone out. :(

Corey only hits solo shots. Duh.

Yeah, I thought Lee's shot was gone too.

And to bring it full circle, I sat within a section of you (and Mark?) at that game and never saw you guys.

I know all of you know he was traded for 2 minor league prospects from the orioles today, but dont you think he still is worth more then that?

also, what are some of your all-time favorite corey moments

Apparently Jim Hendry doesn't agree with you :(

Yeah, it was Mark. Such an exciting and agonizing game.

Looking it up, Corey went 4-6 in the leadoff spot with 2 RBIs (stupid solo HRs), 2 runs scored, and a walk. After that game, he was at .285/.336/.479. By the time the season ended less than a month later, he was completely gassed and finished at .266/.320/.452.

With regular playing time, I think he can have an .800+ OPS season in 2007.

i think i'm most going to miss there be eight threads about him in each forum.

Only eight??? thought it was a lot more

but for all the people who thought he wasthe next wunderkind, and I warned you not to over-rate these guys before they put three good years in in the majors I am going to say (which I feel is appropriate) I told you so

I'm gald Patterson went to the Orioles. If he turns it around it will be for a team I like. Hopefully Baltimore is far enough away from Dusty Baker so he can be himself and swing for the short fence at Camden Yards.

With so many Corey threads, wasn't sure which one to post this in and not sure whether anyone touched base on this yet, but...

Did Corey's ability to hit for a decent average deteriorate because of organizational philosophy, by chance?

I mean, Dusty's been quoted as saying that walks clog bases and that the team needed to be more aggressive at the plate, etc...

Could it be that Corey just got more aggressive than he already was, which in turn made him swing and miss more than he already did?

I'm not looking to pass blame, but rather attempt to find some sort of reasoning as to why he struggled so badly last year.

If the teams organizational philosophy is that they want you up there hacking away rather than drawing walks, and you have a guy who is already more aggressive than he should be, wouldn't that just push Corey even further in the wrong direction?

I think the league figured out that they didn't have to throw him a strike to get him out. So they didn't. By the time that he started to figure that out and adjust, the league started throwing him the occassional strike which he then started fouling off or taking.

I will say this though. Getting traded is the best thing that could have happened to him, unless of course the O's try to turn him into Brett Butler too. Patterson should be able to bat 7th or perhaps 9th and play a great CF. He may not be a great player but the change of leagues could really help him.

I found this article very interesting. It's about a good minor league hitter that's left off of a guy's top prospect list and the reason why the guy left him off. Plate discipline is addressed and Corey Patterson comes up in the discussion. The thread below the article is interesting as well.

My favorite memory of Corey is his HR from this game in June 2003. True, it was a meaningless 8th-inning HR that only meant the Cubs would lose by five runs insteasd of seven, but it came during that magical time when it finally looked as if he was fulfilling all that promise. (It was also the first game I ever sat at the bleachers in Wrigley, and had managed to snag a couple balls during BP earlier.)

Corey had many finer moments in a Cubs uniform for sure, but the one I'll remember most is the one I witnessed first hand.
