Ryan Freel was reportedly arrested early this morning in Tampa and charged with disorderly intoxication.

Not the first time he's been in trouble. Just after Opening Day last season, Freel was charged with with drunken driving, careless driving and having an open container in a motor vehicle. He later pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence and had his license suspended. The Reds didn't take any action then and might not now. Jan. 8 - 6:37 pm et

Todd Walker for Ryan Freel? Don't wanna get rid of Todd, and he's better than Freel, but Freel's OBP plus his versatility would be nice.

I'd still love to him on the Cubs.

Tampa has a terrible transit system and Chicago's is right there w/BART (SF and Oak) and behind NYC as far as top notch public transportation. :)

This is his second offense, so maybe the Reds will want him out. I'd love to give him a fresh start in Chicago.

I'd do Walker (or Patterson) and Wellemeyer for Freel.

I'll second that - do you think Dusty would just not play him because he would be confused as to where to play him?

I hope Welly doesn't read this board. He's gonna think no one likes him.

Todd deserves to be in an organziation that would likely have a plan for him. He'd be closer to his hometown as well.

What's his hometown?

If Welly reads this board, I hope he knows I like him. But since we signed Eyre and Howry, I don't see where he fits into the club's plans.

He's already behind Dempster, Eyre, Howry, Williamson, Wuertz, and Ohman for a spot in the pen. Add Novoa and Rusch to that mix and I just don't see how Welly breaks the 25-man roster this spring. He's out of options, so I'd like to get something for him rather than expose him to waivers.

Freel's a very good player... great defense at all OF spots and 2B/3B and has a .375 OBP and over 35 steals the past two years.

so what is the fascination with players that break the law but can play baseball allright? There was Bradley, Lugo and now Freel throughout the offseason. Am I the only one who would not want a player on the team that has a history of making mistakes and not learning from them, especially given the dangers associated with them?

An interesting question here is what is the limit on our compassion for a player? Sure Bradley & Freel put up great numbers, but is that all that matters?

Lugo was exonerated.

It matters a hell of a lot more than what they do off the field.

You forgot Furcal. Hendry's number one target was a law breaker as well.

I suppose there's some hypothetical limit for me, but it's tough to envision a scenario in which that limit would be surpassed and the ballplayer would still be roaming the streets ready to play baseball. Overall, I'd prefer to have the legal system take care of legal issues and the team take care of baseball issues.

He must not freel too good about that decision.

I try.

That was bad....like....F'reel...

even worse.

Exactly. Freel got a DUI(or similar), he's not being accused of rape or murder. For all we know half the Cubs now do this and just don't get caught.
