actually, didn't his bat emerge in 2004? You are correct about the teeth-gnashing on his rostering though.

Not really. Nothing too impressive, anyway. 279/328/401/729

For a SS in a pitcher's league at his age, that's pretty good.

Good enough to get him on his league's All-Star team, if I recall correctly.

And it was before 2004, not last year, when he was added to the roster and many of us were in disbelief.

Even better when you look at his previous seasons. Those who saw him play saw a marked improvement in his approach. He slowed down in the middle of 04, starting hitting again at the end, and hasn't stopped hitting since.

That does sound good, but I dont see that happening. I really dont see how the Cubs can get Tejada without giving up Pie, Prior, or Z. And whoever previously said lets wait this out and let the Orioles get desperate, I totally agree with you. By the way, I just can't understand why the Orioles would not take top prospects instead of a Manny Ramirez or Bobby Abreu. They are NOT one player away from competing, they might as well reload and hope to be good in a couple years.

While it would make some sense for the Orioles to reload, Angelos is afraid of the competition for area fans with the Washington Nationals. The impact of the Nats on his market is serious since we are talking about cable contracts etc. The Orioles would also need to unload Javier Lopez, Melvin Mora, Hernandez, etc. in an effort to rebuild.

Agreed. I think picking from Raw's prospect trading list for Tejada would be a reasonable thing for the Os to do if they really want to compete in 2008.

we have two of the most promising position prospects that actually performed on their first sniff of the majors, and we're doing everything in our power to block them. Yet we've had other guys who stumbled out the gate, like Corey, and we give them chance after chance after chance...It must suck to be Murton or RonnyC right about now.

Why? If Ronnyc isn't headed to Baltimore he's going to your starting second baseman most likely if Walker gets dealt or not. It would suck for RonnyC to watch Perez getting starts over him not one of the best shortstops in the majors if not the best in Miggy.

You said it yourself. Do you really think Baker will play Ronny over Neifi?

Yes, I do. What I do think will happen is that Ronnie will play 120-130 games, not 155 games.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong. I think Ronny will start out on pace for that, but as soon as he hits an extended slump, Baker will forget who the heck he is for a month. Then when he'll finally get back in there, he'll be rusty, and won't get enough opportunities to get back on track.

If I were them, I wouldn't unload Hernandez. I'd keep him to work with and bring along some of the young top pitching prospects they should be trading the other above names for.

They can't unload Hernandez until June 15th.
