Sorry if this has already been posted but there's a pretty good article on sportsillustrated.cnn.com from John Donovan.

He expects Zambrano may have a breakout year in 2006.

1. Zambrano already had a breakout year...or two...just nobody noticed.

2. He predicts Lee and Carpenter to to revert to norms...duh.

Zambrano has been the best pitcher in the NL for the 2004-05 period, but since he is not Prior or Wood, no one cares.

I think Lee could put up just as good a season next year with guys in front of him getting on-base and even more likely if Ramirez stays healthy behind him and the cubs are able to swing a deal for Floyd or Miggy.

Change it to 2003-2004 and it's arguably true.

If Z ever learns to how to be more consistent with his control (ala like Carptenter did last year) he'll be the best pitcher in baseball. I don't even think it will be close.

one of the things that makes zambrano so effective is that he's willing to throw pitches out of the zone. also, his pitches have so much movement on them, it's hard to predict where they're going.

its amazing to me that baseball writers continue to completely ignore park effects.

That's probably because they know what they're doing. Park effects are neglible when you are talking about the top pitchers in MLB and the conversation is about Cy Young candidacy.
