I think we could get a better deal than Tejada + Bedard.

Tejada is a great player, but I'm not sure he's a difference maker. If you want to trade Prior, I'm fairly certain there are a number of teams (like 28) who would have interest in him. While some teams likely wouldn't offer the talent needed to get him, I think if Prior were actively shopped, a better deal could be struck.

Prior is 24 years old and has posted ERA's of 3.67, 4.02, and 2.43 the past three seasons. He's still very affordable and will be under whichever team trades for him control for at least 3 more seasons. Getting a number one starter through trade, especially one who has yet to reach his prime, is practically unheard of. I think if he were openly shopped, a much better deal could be had...especially if the Cubs packaged him with players such as Murton, Patterson, or Walker.

What would the Yankees offer for Prior?

Would the Red Sox trade Manny and Papelbon while picking up a portion of Manny's contract?

Would the Rangers give you Texeria along with other players?

Could you get Dunn along with other players?

Would the Phillies give you a package of Abreu, Floyd, and others for him?

Would the Devil Rays give up Lugo and Delmon Young for Prior?

I think the possibilities are endless. I really don't want us to trade Prior, but if we do, it's imperative to get the maximum value for him.

Are you really sure that Tejada isn't a difference maker? He may never have had a .900 OPS, but he's still one of the top 3 SS's in the entire game, and he's proven. I'd love to pencil Cedeno in for Tejada-like production, but that probably won't happen. Tell me that an infield of Lee, Walker(I hope), Tejada and Ramirez wouldn't be the most(or second most) feared infield in baseball. With production like that(even not counting what we'd get from our OF), we could definitely stand to throw Eric Bedard(who was pretty good last year) out there instead of Prior.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of assuming that we can do with having a barely adequate offense because our pitching will be so awesome, when it really hasn't been awesome since '03. I'm ready to try the other way: Good enough pitching, amazing offense. I never thought I'd say this, but if Hendry can get Tejada + Bedard(provided he can come to terms with Tejada on a long-term deal) for Prior, then pull the trigger.

dunn - no effin way

lugo - not a significant enough upgrade from cedeno. young isn't proven.

teixeira - seriously doubt rangers would part with him

abreu - not a bad idea

tejada and bedard - a nice bat and LHP, not bad

a-rod - no freakin way

A-Rod?

no thanks.

Arod would be a difference make at SS.

Arod in 2005: 321/421/610

Tejada in 2005: 304/349/515

Not even close!

And to think, Arod is younger than Tejada.

If you could get Arod (and he's willing to play SS) for Prior and another player...I'd jump at that deal.

If the Cubs trade Prior it better be to an AL team. I dont want to see him in the NL at all.

I'd love to see him in the NL. I think he deserves to throw a perfect game, and that won't happen until he faces off against an offense featuring Neifi and God knows who else by then.

I think the Rangers would give Teixeira +, but what would the Cubs do with Teixeira? How many great bat, great fielding first basemen does a team need? And who else do the Rangers have that the Cubs would want?

Teixeira could play left. He's played it before and is athletic enough to handle it.

He'd also be nice insurance if Lee leaves after next season as a FA.

I believe Tex is athletic enough to convert to LF. He has played RF but not a whole lot.

i would take jeter for prior from the yankees and thats it. jeter to me is one of the best players in the game, a true champion and franchise player. i wouldnt take Arod, but Jeter, despite his age would be great for this team. i wouldnt trade prior for pretty much anybody else but johan santana and a few others. but jeter to me is too great to pass on and he would tear up it up nobody what league he's in. that catch when he ran with absolutely no abandon into the stands was just amazing. prior for jeter, where do i sign?

You can't be serious that you'd take Jeter but not Arod?

Jeter is a nice player, but Arod is better by a large margin.

And to get specific about AROD's contract, this is how much he is owed by the yanks from here on out

06: 10.43

07: 12.43

08: 12.43

09: 12.43

10: 12.43

11: 4.88

12: 4.88

13: 4.88

14: 4.88

15: 4.88

16: 4.88

17: 4.88

18: 4.88

19: 4.88

20: 4.88

11-20 are deferred payments, no longer under contract. Deferred payments were originally to be paid at 3% interest but were later reduced to an undisclosed rate, I assumed 2%.

Prior in a package for Tex or Manny would be ideal. Those two would have to offer some more (Papelbon, Lester, Danks, Volquez) to sweeten the pot, but I'd also try to move Lee if we did get Tex. If not, stick Tex in left field, he is a LEGITIMATE franchise player.

Prior for Tejada + Bedard is not a Maddux-esque dump. Greg Maddux got lowballed by the Cubs and chose to sign elsewhere. In this scenario, we're getting back what I(and others) perceive as equal or greater value.

FYI the difference between ARod and Jeter last year was the same difference between ARam and Vinny Castilla.

Yeah but Vinny can really "pick it" down there.

The fact that Hendry is actually considering a Prior/Tejada swapped shows how desparate he wants to improve the offense. If Hendry trades Prior, he'd better have another top quality starting pitcher in his back pocket.
