The BoSox lose out on Damon and need a CF. Manny also wants to be traded. Since we apparently are in a "win-now" mode, lets trade the farm! Murton, Patterson, Walker and Williams for Manny. If they want Pie instead of one of the names, let em have him.

The Cubs have to acquire Manny or Tejada for me to give JH anything less than a passing grade for the offseason.

I think there was a far greater chance of the Cubs getting Brian Giles than Manny Ramirez.

If we where talking after the world series I would agree but now that Hendry has seen all his chances to make a splash wash up he might be interested.

Millwood

Manny

Miggy

Weaver

Are the only hopes I have right now of Hendry being able to make this years squad any better to compete with the Cards.

Yeah and now that the Cards got the Pontoon boat...they've replaced Ray King's fat.

Losing Damon puts the Sox offense in a precarious position. Trading Manny for anything less than a player who will bring nearly equal production would decimate it. The only way anyone is going to get Ramirez is to give them a proven big stick.

I understand that angle and it makes a lot of sense, and frankly, I think that is what they'll do, if they trade him at all. However I also wouldn't be surprised to see them engage in a small rebuilding process. And it can't hurt to ask, 'cause man, Manny's offense could really help this team:

Pierre

Hairston

Lee

Manny

Aram

Jones

Barrett

Cedeno

I'd be happ...ier.

That same exact theory was mentioned by Buster Olney on the Hot List a while ago. Maybe now is the time for the Cubs to jump in the Manny sweepstakes :D Throw them the Farm. Then I could actually be happy with Jones.

I say that based on what it appears Hendry is willing to go after.

I don't think he's sitting back and saying, "Wow, this offseason isn't turning out all that well, I better make a splash with an impact player." He's happy with what he got. I'd go as far as saying he's ecstatic. This is what he wanted. He's had this team for 4 offseasons, he's been around this organization for a long time. This team is the team Jim Hendry wants. Manny doesn't fit in this picture. And I don't see Boston taking back what the Cubs would have to offer. They want one star, at least. Maybe not a superstar, but a star nonetheless.

The only way we get Manny Ramirez is, if Boston decides to hire Hendry as their GM. Then we could turn around and send them Rich Hill, Jaun Pierre, and Neifi for Manny. If that doesn't get it done we can just remind him that Glendon Rusch is a left handed pitcher who can be used as a swing man, and then include him in the deal. No way the Hendry I know turns that deal down.

Also we could tell him that Manny is moody and is not good for team chemistry.

There is no chance in heck that Boston trades Manny, right now. As somebody on ESPNnews just said---maybe it was Gammons---but you can't trade Manny for ".50 cents on the dollar" type trade. Meaning, right now....seeing as there is nothing sort of "joke offers" on the table for Manny, I don't see Boston JUST giving Manny away.

In others words....MANNY WILL BE MANNY.........IN BOSTON.

I've got three words to say why this isn't going to happen, in any way, shape or form.

Catch the ball.

That is not something Manny does, and it is what Hendry is looking for.

Maybe he should try to see if TO can be had then. I hear he can catch the ball, he's out of favor with his team, and has a below market contract.

That would violate last year's theme, chemistry in the clubhouse.

I also don't think he does the little things.

4 words.

20 million per year.

Does he even want to come to Chicago?? Thought he prefers the Coasts.

Show him Lake Michigan at sunrise and tell him it's dusk. He won't know the difference.

Remember the story about some of the Phillies telling a young John Kruk that Lake Michigan was the Mississippi River?

Classic stuff.

As someone else said, Boston is in no position to trade Manny without either 1) getting at least someone capable of providing close to his kind of offensive production, or 2) getting a package that includes an ace pitcher and probably one or two #1 prospects.

If the Cubs want Manny, they'll have to pony up Lee (Boston needs a 1B), Zambrano or Prior in a package with Pie at the least.

No way does Boston trade quality for quantity imho. After having been a WS team in 2004 and a contender in 2005, the fan base would go balistic if they threw in the towel and decided to rebuild now - it just won't happen in Boston - trust me.

As messy as things look with the Cubs, how would you like to be a Red Sox fan right now (not considering the WS championship in 2004) - here you are about 3 months from the opening of spring training and you have nobody to play CF, nobody to play SS, you don't know if you have a closer, you're uncertain if Beckett may have shoulder problems, you don't know if Schilling will ever be the same, your star LF has demanded a trade, your #2 pitcher from last year (Wells) has demanded a trade, you moved your #1 non-pitching prospect who was supposed to take over SS and in effect got someone elses #1 non-pitching prospect who happens to be a 3B which is where a guy you got in an earlier deal as a throw in because of his huge salary is supposed to play (Lowell), and you lost an excellent GM and replaced him with 2 GM's in name who likely are just pawns to a businessman who thinks he's a GM (Luchino).

I'm not happy with the Cubs offseason so far, but Boston fans are in an uproar today for the most part! They see absolutely no rhyme or reason to the deals they've made so far.

Getting Manny might be the only thing that keeps Hendry around after this year. Although, it'll probably take half the farm to do it, and I don't know if any player is worth trading away so much of your future.

If by "we" you are referring the the cubs organization, I suggest you put down the pipe.

But it's the only way I can make sense of this!!

Honestly though, if we were rebuilding, I would hope Jaque Jones wouldn't be the RF for the next three years. Otherwise, it'd be like a five year plan.
