These are the main reasons why assuming that Koronka and Wellemeyer will be sufficient to get Huff is absurd in my opinion.

To be fair, BBB didn't really say that would be sufficient. He said that's all he'd be willing to give.

If that's all he'd be willing to give, he better be prepared to not get anything.

Yep. I'm fine with that. Considering Neifi and Jones will be playing everyday for this team next year, I don't think Huff will make or break this team one way or another. I'd rather see if Guzman can break into the rotation next year. With Neifi and Jones making up 1/4 of the offense, the Cubs will need as many shut out capable pitchers they can get their hands on.

I guess I don't unedrstand what point you are trying to make. I think platooning is a good idea that more teams should explore.

I would make that argument, platoon aren't used nearly enough. I think the difference between using Jones for 160 games 25%-30% vs. LH'ers and using E. Perez/Jones as R/L platoon with Jones playing in 120 games is a difference about .075 in OPS increase if you used that platoon over just throwing Jones out there.

I agree, plus now you've got a useful guy off the bench.

One major difference between Florida and Tampa is that Florida made their players available very early and had better players to offer.

By the end of the offseason, most teams will have made their moves (whether they were good or bad) and won't feel a need to make a panic move (Jacque Jones anyone?) for a bad contract.

By the end of the offseason, Tampa might be able to trade bad contracts, but I would think that would be the best they'll be able to do.

Delgado is not a bad contract. Beckett is not a bad contract, and also allowed Florida to dump a bad contract to move him.

I see it as just the opposite. By now the FA pool has dried up and teams are looking at trades to fill holes. Now is the time of year that Tampa can really fleece a desperate team who thinks they can contend. Maybe they think a player like Huff could put them over the top, so they overspend to get him.

I'm not trying to make a point. I'm trying to establish if what you're saying about $5m for a player that should be platooned is indeed good value.
