Because we will be out of it come July, who will you trade and for what?

It's the Cubs. They will think they are in it and trade for some crappy B type player and then play the vets for the rest of the year so they can reach their incentives. In the off season they will sign more crappy B vets and lose as many draft picks as they can.

yeah, there will be 11 teams ahead of the cubs in the WC chase, but they'll think they're still in it. i'm guessing on a pie for reggie sanders deal, moving murton to the bench. or possibly a hill for jack wilson dealing, pushing cedeno to the bench.

They will say they are still in it even if they have been mathimatically elminated. All this front office sees is fantasy.

I think you can officially change your signature.

in all honesty, lee would probably bring a king's ransom on july 15th if the cubs wanted to trade him.

4/$55-60m extension this season.

*that is my prediction of what Hendry will do, not what I would do.

That would be the best move in the past 2 years.

It might be. But it's generally not wise to give a big raise and extension to a guy coming off a career year if you don't have to.

I agree 100%, but that still doesn't change the ugly pathetic fact that it would have been the best move in the past 2 years - despite how unwise it is.

What would I do?

If Kerry Wood is even remotely healthy, I tell him it would be in his best interest to waive his NTC, because I'm not bringing him back. Moving him now (July 2006) gives Wood a chance to break in with a new team and perhaps negotiate a contract extension before he hits free agency.

I trade any veteran under contract, to a playoff contending team that will give me quality prospects in exchange. Preferably, position player prospects. I am particularly eager in July, when the Cubs are 20 games under 500, to deal Aramis Ramirez, Wood, Rusch, Barrett, Jones and Neifi, since I see these guys having variable degrees of perceived value as component pieces to playoff teams. I move Ramirez because I see him exercising his player option next year to escape this mess. Jones and Neifi could be good bench players for a contending team; I'll eat half their contract to move them.

And obviously, if I haven't done so already, I fire all the management, from MacPhail, to Donut Boy, to Dust Bag.

Well our offense pretty much looks the way the White Sox offense did last year. All we have to do is expect the same miracle they got which was a healthy starting rotation all year long.

I might be the only on this forum that is not ready to mail the 2006 season in.

Call me optimistic, color me stupid, call me "the average Cub fan" if you want

but can we atleast play a game before we mail the season in?

Yes. 1 game.

Hey, even the Royals sell out on Opening Day. Betcha come August, Wrigley is no longer announcing 39,000+ attendance every day. I can't believe someone would pay what is it, $6000 for season tickets to this train wreck? Wow.

Agreed. I feel real bad for the season ticket holders.

Who gave the Bears a chance before this season?

Not I. I thought that they needed to catch breaks to reach .500.

Who expected the White Sox to win it all last year?

Not I. I still expected them to fail when they started the ALCS.

Who expects the Cubs to do *#@& this year?

Not I.

How will you work our midseason firesale?

Well i'd start by selling Hendry and Dusty to a tribe of cannibals for a string of beads.
