let me put it this way, at 29 years of age, is he worth a Dempster/Williamson contract? Say, a half million this season with a 2 million option for 2007?

Sure. Shoulder vs. elbow, though. I wouldn't be confident.

He could keep Wood company...

Take a flyer on him with a Demster like contract. But work him in as a long relief pitcher rather than a starter for the first year.

DIDO, when healthy he's a very good pitcher. I'd take that chance in a heartbeat.

I don't know about that. He was healthy last year and was ineffective. The tear he had on his shoulder did damage and has lost significant velocity.

I don't know that he was healthy last year. I believe he also had a frayed labrum (Kerry Wood) or something very similar that he tried to play through.

His frayed labrum injury happened when he was with the Astros. He decided to rest it instead of opt for surgery. During the offseason the Sox signed him and he eventually made the return to the rotation. He was terrible. His velocity was way down. That's all I need to know. I don't see him as an option for us anyways considering how many pitchers we already have on the roster.

That depends. You'd definately want you're medical staff to thouroughly evaluate the situation before you pounced on him, but it'd definately be worth a look. But aside from the injury aspect it'd depend on the construction of our 40 man. With the seriousness of this he's SURELY not worth leaving a good prospect off the list. Howevrer, with the recent trades I think that would be a non issue.

I'm all for signing him to a Dempster/Willamson deal.... and if Dempster struggles, we could rev up the Wade Miller for Closer BandWGN again.....

That's what I'm getting at, I guess. He did not have the surgery to repair his labrum, and that affected him last year as well. If it's surgically repaired, I'd take a chance.

I see not reason not take a chance. But you wouldn't put him at closer if Dempster gets hurt that is what Howry is for.
