Enjoy the holidays Jim, it'll be your last as GM of the Cubs.

Zero chance.

Plenty of chance. You definitely do not know that the Cubs will keep Hendry if next season is another disappointment.

Zero chance.

It's not a zero chance, and you know it. You may think there's LITTLE chance, and you might be right about that, but ZERO chance is an absolute statement that is clearly and factually not true because nobody can say with certainty what will happen after next season. When you make such a clearly incorrect statement, and refuse to back off it when called on it, you're likely to be criticized, and rightfully so.

I agree. It is not inconcievable, although a long shot, that Kerry Wood could finally find "it", and that Mark Prior could put together a full 35 starts in 2003 form, and that Greg Maddux could rebound, and coupled with Z that alone could drive us to the playoffs. He ain't losing his job then, even if he had nothing to do with getting to the playoffs.

Jones would be an AWFUL option for this current Cubs team - the last thing we need to add is a free swinger with a low OBP who strikes out once a game.

I'd rather we put Corey out there and hope he finds himself.

What is the difference from Burnitz to Jones? Their numbers last year are nearly identical. Don't see how Hendry can view a Jones acquisition as much of an upgrade.

BTW has anyone looked at his splits? Jones is a fairly productive hitter vs. RHP .268 BA .348 OBP and a decent OPS. He may not be a horrible option if the Cubs had another player to platoon with him.

6m a year to be a platoon player=horrible option.

This is a hitter with a career .258 EqA and over the last two seasons has pulled off two adj. OPS of .717 and .736.

We need Chuck to tell Hendry how medicore and overpaid Jones will become if the Cubs signed him. :)

No thanks.

How much say does Chuck actually have in the Cubs front office?

Paying Jones $6M a year is a bad idea period, but he is not a totally worthless player.

Chuck is not into the Moneyball stats.

I'll call him an awesome player if he's wearing any uniform other than the Cubs next year.

Actually, if he was getting somewhere between 1-2m and was a 100% platoon and the rest of the team all had .350+ OBP's, I'd be fine with Jones. Jones is going to get 6m a year, and it will be either a 2 or a 3 year deal.

No thanks!

Actually, I'm shocked more teams (Yankees?) aren't considering him for CF, he could be serviceable there.

especially when it will probably take a three year deal to get him.

If they sign him, I assume not enough.

Either that or he's not saying the right things. ;)
