I think Clemens could play pretty much anywhere he wanted to, provided that team could cover his salary. It's all up to him.

With that in mind, I don't think there's much of a chance of him going to Boston. If I understand correctly, he still harbors a grudge against Boston for giving up on him.

or not . . . from espn.com

When told of Boston's interest, Clemens, who was not offered arbitration by the Houston Astros, was said to have reacted positively, according to the paper.

I think Clemens's issues with Boston were more with the Duquette regime than the Red Sox themselves.

Clemens will not go to Boston. If he plays in 2006, he will wait and sign with the Astros on May 1st. Why, you ask? Simply:

The Astros are nearing a two-year agreement with catcher Brad Ausmus, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Houston lineup could certainly use some added punch, but Bengie Molina probably wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to justify the added cost, especially for 2007 and beyond. The Astros will stick with Ausmus and try to better themselves elsewhere. Dec. 12 - 1:43

Clemens has stated NUMEROUSLY that he wants Ausmus as his personal catcher, and no other catcher. Maybe Varitek might convince him to come to Boston, but at this stage of Clemens career, he is unlikely to switch catchers. It will be either the Astros or retirement.

I think Clemens will go to Boston. If he thought the could stay and win with Houston, they would have worked something out by now. He's got enough money that all he actually cares about is a good season, and with the B&B crew on the outs, I think he sees Boston as a place where he has a better chance to succeed.

Who knows with Clemens. People doubted him coming over to the Astros and he did. The Rangers should offer some money and try and sign him to a 1 year deal. They have the offense but they don't have the starting pitching to contend.
