I was asking you for a link to the post on the Yankees message board. Also, a second source (preferably non-message board) confirming this would be welcome.

Have the Yankees ever expressed any interest in Patterson? If they want to dump Pavano, would you send Patterson and Novoa (say) to NY and offer to pick up all of Pavano's money? These considerations are usually moot with the Yankees, but when they tire of someone, it tends to happen quickly and irrevocably, they'll take anything to be rid of the player in question.

Cubs have plenty of money un-spent, and we're one year away from needing two (if not three) starters. I'd take a chance on Pavano. If he's healthy, he's the #3 starter we need with Wood on the shelf.

Not too big at all on Pavano. Hasn't he had a lot of injury problems? And besides, he's not really all that great anyways.

Wow, I had no idea how bad Pavano was until I looked at his career stats. Talk about your one year wonders. He parlayed an admittedly great 2004 into a big contract, but he's been ordinary (at best) every other year of his career.

Nix that idea then, we've got better already for the back of the rotation in Williams and Rusch.

Eh, I'd be more comfortable with Pavano than Rusch at the back end of the rotation. Pavano's not worth his current contract (Wasn't it a 5/50 deal?), but if you could sucker the Yankees into picking up part of his contract in exchange for CPatt/Novoa, that wouldn't be the worst of ideas.

I grant you, he's not a front of the line guy. But as a 4 or 5? I'd be fine with it, assuming the price was right.

Also, until I see a second reliable source about what Stark said on Gamenight (if he even was on that show), I'm calling shenanigans on this rumor.

$39.95m/4yrs, of which there's $30.95m/3yrs left.

Pavano has a NTC.

And he's rubbish.

And we don't need back of the rotation starters.

Who would the Cubs have that Baltimore would want? Certainly they're not just going to ask for prospects, they're going to want starting players in exchange for him. This isn't the Marlins we're talking about.

My guess is the O's would begin asking for a frontline starter. The O's are desperate for pitching, just like the Abreu situation in Philly. I think it would take either Z or Prior to make a deal with the O's for Miguel.

They are not any closer to competing in that div. than the Fish are.

Hill, Williams, Cedeno and a Single A prospect for Miggy and a bit of cash, please.

There will plenty of teams that would be willing to offer more.

Perhaps - but then we should match or exceed.

Everyone needs starting pitching. Not everyone needs a shortstop. Which teams will offer more?

Mets easily could get involved, don't know if they'd trade Reyes though, and that'd probably be a dealbreaker for the Os. Pad's won't give that package up, plus they're set with Khalil Greene, who's only going to get better. O's don't want to trade within division, so no Red Sox or Blue Jays. We can beat the DBacks package easily if we wanted. We could also beat the Angels, but not as easily as AZs package. I would guess that would have to depend on how the O's feel about those guys vs our guys...

One significant point here that was mentioned but not emphasized is that Jon Stockstill is the Orioles new assistant GM. Not only does he know the Cubs players real well, but obviously has a terrific relationship with Hendry and the Cubs. This should make it a lot easier for the two teams to make a trade.

It's entirely un-Cubs fan-like, but for some reason I'm very optimistic that we will land Tejada in another typical Hendry fleecing.

my opinion of these offers

Mets - I don't know if that is a better deal than the Cubs, and I wouldn't do it if I were the O's. Reyes is still a question mark in both injury and production and Benson sucks

Blue Jays - would the Jays be able to take on Tejeda's contract? and what use would they have for two crappy pitchers like Batista and Lilly? and what use would they have for Hudson?

Angels - an interesting proposal, but I don't know if the Angels would do that. they're already lost Byrd and will lose Washburn. that leaves Colon and Santana, and noone to replace their best setup man. come to think of it, no chance the Angels do that trade. maybe Cabrerra and some prospects?

D-Backs - if I am not mistaken, someone said that Baltimore is one of the places Vazquez refuses to be traded to and they won't give up Tracy. to cheap for the production to give up.

Padres - Roberts sucks, so the trade is Eaton and Greene. Eaton is average at best, so the trade is Greene. O's won't do it.

ReSox - Arroyo sucks, and Angelo probably won't take on Manny's contract.

I don't doubt that other teams can outbid some of the packages that the Cubs could offer, but the above five are not good examples.
