I'd love to keep Walker, but it seems like Hendry wants to trade him. With the Reds trading for Womack and looking to sign Aurillia it makes Freel more expendable.

The Reds plan to use Womack primarily at second base. He'll also play some outfield.

The Reds are still trying to sign Rich Aurilia. If that happens, Aurilia will get the bulk of time at second.

Womack and Freel will share the utility role if Aurilia signs. If Aurilia doesn't sign, Freel and Womack will share second base as well as the utility role.

"I see (Womack) playing a great deal," Reds manager Jerry Narron. "But there are only a few guys (on the roster) who I call everyday players."

How about trading for him and plugging him in at 2b? I'd love to see his .370 OBP (.375 and .371 the past two years) batting 2nd in our lineup. Put Cedeno at SS and bat him 8th. Thoughts?

no EFFIN way. would rather have walk!

I'd rather have Twalk too, but it seems like Hendry is hellbent on trading him.

The other possibility is that they throw Freel in the OF making Kearns, Griffey or Pena (or an outstide chance, Dunn) available.

no, next idea please!

care to elaborate?

Walker in my book, Freel reminds me of Bo Hart. Heck, I will take Jerry Jr. instead of Freel

Career Numbers

Freel: .276/.369/.377/.746

Hairston: .261/.334/.371/.705

the only time Hairston put up better numbers than Freel was in 2004 when he posted .303/.378/.397/.775 and that year he had a BABIP way above career norms (basically, he got lucky). Hairston plays 2B and a passable CF in a pinch (ie Patterson tanking, lol). Freel provides more flexibility (he's actually good at his positions unlike the recently departed Macias).

i'd take walker over freel, but Hendry may not let us have Walker. :(

I'm surprised by all the Freel hate here.

Sure, a .50 downgrade in career OPS from TWalk, but a better, more versatile defender and a guy who can run the bases a bit.

If I could pick from the two, I think I'd rather have freel.

My friends went to a Cubs/Reds game at Wrigley in September 2004 and got into an argument with Freel. From what they told me it was quite humorous.

Not hate, just no love for him. I believe we have other areas we need to address. Second base is not an issue right now.

That's it. I'd take Freel before Pierre to play somewhere if we were going to get a Bradley/Abreu combo, or something similar.
