Ok, now that we have Pierre in center, it's time to choose a rightfielder.

I've compiled a list of 7 potential candidates that I believe are realistic options. It's not comprehensive, but lets see which you choose.

Numbers are AVG/OBP/SLG

Ages are ages for 2005 season.

Player A-

2005: 280/355/436 Bats: Left

Career: 283/341/460 Age: 33

Player B-

2005: 290/350/484 Bats: Both

Career: 269/358/426 Age: 27

Player C-

2005: 286/355/477 Bats: Left

Career: 283/356/505 Age: 32

Player D-

2005: 264/328/469 Bats: Right

Career: 272/334/484 Age: 27

Player E-

2005: 240/333/452 Bats: Right

Career: 266/360/461 Age: 25

Player F-

2005: 248/351/405 Bats: left

Career: 256/365/452 Age: 28

Player G-

2005: 287/349/447 Bats: Right

Career: 268/316/440 Age: 29

There is so much more involved than just those three stats.

What about injuries, defense, arm? What are the figures like in comparison to the year before? Is the player on the decline?

Right now, if there was a Patterson & ? for Wilkerson deal on the table, I'd be happy seeing BW in right. Then we'd still have plenty to offer for a middle infielder and the money to go and get one of the remaining FA starting pitchers or one of the high-priced arms that teams are looking to move.

Considering what's given, give me player B. Who is he? Mitch Webster?

I want Dunn... Shh... We need a hack in the middle of the order.

good point. IMO, we need a decent fielding RF. Pierre has mediocre range for all his speed and Murton seems a little rough sometimes. It would be nice to have at least one gun in the OF.

Can I pick H (assuming it doesn't cost Prior or Z)?

2005: 286/405/474 Bats: Left

Career: 303/411/512 Age:31

I tried to pick players we have a realistic shot of getting. From all reports I've heard, the Cubs aren't a match for Mr. Abreu.

For the same reason, Adam Dunn isn't on the list.

D'oh! I guess I'll take C.

B, E and F all seem like good options. It depends on what you have to give up to get each and things that aren't in the criteria you listed (defense, cost, etc.).

I'd go with E.

Why did you leave Huff off the list? I think he's a pretty realistic target.

Sorry. You're right, Huff should've been on the list, but compiling it while trying to coral a class of 8th graders, errors were bound to be made.

Personally I think it's unrealistic to say these guys should be left off the list or insinuate the Cubs can't get them.

If the Pierre trade is true, then whoever the hell ends up playing RF better be a really good hitter. Right now the lineup is incredibly suspect (and of course the biggest hole on the team is still a hole). The pitching is still in great doubt, with Wood sidelined and Glendon Rusch unfortunately slotted into a spot. You can win with a less than stellar offense, but you have to have league leading pitching, and the Cubs aren't close to being there yet. Considering the overinflated cost of pitching, and the lack of available pitchers, I don't see them improving this pitching staff that is now filled with 3 #5 starters. So they absolutely have to go big in RF, and this is when it's acceptable to overpay. Overpaying for mediocrity does you no good, overpaying for great production is different.

I agree goony, but I'm not sure how much they'll have to overpay for Abreu or Dunn. If it truly costs Prior/Zambrano to get Abreu, I'll pass. But I would pursue every angle possible with him, because he would be a true difference maker and would immediately upgrade this offense.

As far as Dunn, I have no idea right now. But with Casey's trade, it will probably take much more to land Dunn.

How about player C with Pitcher V and salary relief?
