Per the 5pm update on WSCR, George Ofman reported the Reds either offered or were seeking Mitre and Nolasco for Kearns.

Again, I might take that. I'm sure Hendry will first see how much more it would take to land Dunn. That doesn't seem like an outrageous asking price compared to what they were reportedly asking for before.

Kearns would be a fallback option in my book. He's got some attractive positives, but when it's that questionable if he can even provide average production, you have to take pause. And it's not like you can even platoon him with a good lefty either, because his splits, while entirely unimpressive the past few years, are pretty even.

Agreed. Hendry will probably ask to see what Dunn will cost. Kearns is probably option C or D.

If you traded for Kearns, would you consider trading Murton in a deal for Abreu?

I definitely would, but I'm not sure what else we would have to give up.

Mitre + Nolasco for Dunn

Murton + Williams + Ohman/Wuertz + Prospect for Abreu.

Yes.

No. I'd rather have Murton than Kearns. I'd see if we could sub other players for Abreu.

However, if Murton was the dealbreaker, I might. Is Kearns/Abreu better than Murton/Abreu or Murton/Huff?

I'll make a Mitre/Nolasco for Kearns deal in a second but first I'll counter with a Mitre/inferior pitcher deal like WF22 said. If they don't bite I'd make the Mitre/Nolasco deal anyway.

How about going one up and trading for pitching prospects for Dunn and including Murton in a trade for Abreu??

=P~

I don't know about that first part. Kearns has much more upside than Murton in my opinion.

I think Kearns/Abreu is far superior to Murton/Huff.

I'd trade Murton for Abreu, as much as I love Murton. You can't pass a deal like that up.

Gee. Maybe you could just trade Mitre for Abreu.

ABREU IS NOT GOING TO BE MOVED FOR A PILE OF DIRTY SOCKS!

(not that Murton is a pile of dirty socks, but come on people!)

What's so special about Kearns?? Why does everyone like him so much?

He was DEMOTED last year! I just don't see what the fuss is about.

What the hell is the point of this post, and how does Murton equate to dirty socks, and did you not read the "Murton in a deal for" part of my post?

Didn't notice your change. But where do you get off saying "come on people"? I never said Murton straight up. Why don't you take the time to read a post next time before trying to ridicule it?

He didn't mean Murton for Abreu straight up. Just including Murton in the trade. Calm down.

The talent is there and always has been. He was once considered a better prospect than Dunn.

In his first season he put up a .900+ OPS at the age of 22. The next season he put up a .820 OPS in half a season at the age of 23. He's solid defensively and has good patience and while he doesn't have monster power, he has pretty decent pop.

I like it!

Also, I agree with what other have said, Kearns is a good C or D option. Thats only IF we get a solid CF bat and either keep Walker or find another valuable player for 2B(i.e. not Neifi)

Plus, there's little to suggest that his decline in Cincy doesn't have a lot to do with the fact that the Reds have had 4 or 5 starter-caliber OFs the last few seasons.

Kearns' decline caught me completely by surprise. But, unlike the decline of Patterson, Kearns had a history of very solid numbers, and didn't completely disappear.

He's still a question mark, which is why I would think it's unwise to let Kearns to RF equal your biggest offseason improvement.

I love you man, some people in here a delusional. If Reds really want Ricky and Mitre for Kearns I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's a steal as Mitre has no future with the Cubs (won't crack the rotation or bullpen (where he would suck) and he's out of options) I like Ricky but I'd like a Right fielder than can produce NOW, not a back end of the roation pitcher that might produce in 2 years. Is there better options than Kearns yes, are we capable of getting them? It's not looking like it.

I'd basically offer any rule 5 casualty, or anyone wasting a spot on the 40 man roster who maybe shouldn't be on it anymore.
