Matt Shaw Taking Reps in the Outfield

The Chicago Cubs may be working with on a creative solution to get Matt Shaw more playing time.

    Cubs Video

Following the acquisition of superstar third baseman Alex Bregman, rumors have been swirling about the Chicago Cubs and two of their utility infielders regarding their roles with the team. While it seems unlikely that Nico Horner ends up being traded, Matt Shaw seems like a more likely candidate. Or, maybe they'll just turn him into a super utility…

John Antonoff shared a video via his X account of Chicago Cubs infielder Matt Shaw taking reps in the outfield. However, how deep we can look at that remains to be unclear.

On one hand, they could be getting shot reps so that he can play either corner outfield spot when Ian Happ or Seiya Suzuki needs a rest. While both players are strong, offensively, they are both average, two slightly below average, defenders at their respective positions. Shaw's experience in the outfield is extremely limited, while he doesn't have any professional experience, he did appear and left and right field a total of 40 times as an amateur. Depending on how quickly he can pick up outfield defense, he may not be much of a downgrade when half or Suzuki need a day off.

On the other hand, the Cubs could be using this time as an opportunity for teams to see that Shaw in the outfield is within the realm of possibility.

Do you think the Cubs end up hanging onto Shaw? Let us know in the comments!

Waive it around at law enforcement, and you should expect to be shot.  Carrying it around is no problem.  You see the difference?

What does a hypothetical person waving around a gun have to do with six guys beating the horsefeathers out of one person and then shooting him? Or are you saying he was waving it around while on all fours being punched in the face and tackled by six cops

There is video out there of this incident if you so wish to watch it, granted it starts out in the middle of ICE agents attempting to detain the guy, so it's missing some context on how it all started. The video begins with half a dozen ICE agents wrestling with the guy trying to detain him and in the middle of this scuffle his gun goes off. The agents quickly jump off of him and swiftly return fire.

Now I don't know how this all started, but if you are resisting a federal operation while armed and your gun goes off... Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It's too late for JC.  When a person waives around a gun at law enforcement, he should get shot.  Hopefully Jesus Christ is there for him now.

    1) It’s waves, you dolt.

    2) There’s actual video of what happened so stop horsefeathers lying. He’s on the ground getting his ass kicked by 7 ICE agents.

    3) @Brock Beauchamp I do hope your statement from back when you purchased NSBB still holds true.

does it usually work when you lie through your teeth like this?

How so?  Just don't interfere with law enforcement enforcing the law.  Especially don't waive a gun around at them.  Bad things should and will happen.

There is very clear audio of the incident and there is a gunshot prior to him being killed. I'm assuming it is the victims gun that is heard, because all the officers jumped off and unholstered to return fire.

I would like to see improvements in Shaw's game this season. Hopefully, he has the ability to play the OF competently, as it would also allow him to get more ABs.  I think at this point, the Cubs view him as the heir to Nico.

If you drive 350 miles to defend illegals and try to interfere with law enforcement and drive at them in your car, you should be shot.  At least the law says that.

there's "very clear audio" of a gunshot, but no reason to believe it came from the victim

I think he'll be great at all 3 positions out there.  He's a great athlete who's sprint speed is in the top 90% of the league.  It would be very surprising if he's not a good OF'er
