  1. I hope Hendry has invested in a good magic hat because thats what we are going to need.
  2. Don't forget about the Brewers. They very well may be a WC team next year, though that might be one year too early. With Lee, Brady Clark, Overbay, Hall, Hart, Hardy, Weeks, Fielder Sheets, Davis, Capuano, Turnbow, Wise They are young, and will be good for awhile. 2003 could have been our timeframe but unfortunately things are not looking too good right now.
  3. You guys are funny the WSox JUST won the WS yesterday and had to go through the Red Sox, Angels, and Astros and also swept the Indians and took them out of the playoffs yet the Cubs are closer to the WS? NO WAY! What exactly is Hendry going to do this offseason that will make the Cubs WS contenders? This is a weak FA year and most teams are not wlling to trade their top players for what we have in the minors. We will need 2-3 upgrades on offense and 2-3 players for pitching and truthfully that seems like a stretch this off-season. We had the worst fundamentals in baseball and the WSox had one of the best. They also have a manager who is good unlike the Cubs. Come April I think we will have a good idea where this team stands, but until then I'm skeptical they can even make the playoffs with the Stros and Cards in our division.
  4. Here we go yet again with the Farnsworth saga....
  5. Maddux won't opt to retire. He personally said he is coming back.
  6. If healthy, I agree it would be an excellent bullpen.
  7. Man, this has gotta be one of the worst FA pools for OFs in a long time.
  8. I really don't see a $9 million difference between Furcal and Cedeno. I think Cedeno will match Furcal within 2 years. Of course, that's assuming Dusty will play him. I'm all for having Cedeno start but in order for that to happen we have to strengthen our OF by having Murton and two other players who are currently not on the roster. Giles and someone else would be nice.
  9. 9-10 mil for Furcal? I like him and all but that is a pretty steep price.
  10. That was an idiotic move by Guillen. The fact that it worked out perfectly for him (like all his other moves this year) does not change the fact that demoting a lights-out closer is a stupid idea. That's not how it happened. Hermanson had serious back issues and lost his effectivness. He could not barely pitch let alone close.
  11. I'm all for Dotel but I wonder how effective he will be in the beginning?
  12. No. If anything it makes it easier to afford to sign Everyday Eddie to set-up. This wouldn't be a bad bullpen Dempster Guardado Wuertz Ohman Novoa Williamson If Williamson is healthy that is a VERY solid bullpen.
  13. I think signing Dempster was an excellent move. I still think we need to beef up our bullpen but signing him was a great start. I would love to have BJ Ryan and I'm surprised Baltimore allowed him to hit FA although he will get a lot of cash. I'm not opposed to signing Eddie G as a setup man, although I am concerned about his age.
  14. I would be happy if we grabbed Furcal and Giles, and moved Cedeno to 2B, but I would also be happy with leaving Walker at 2B, Cedeno at SS getting Giles and signing Burnett.
  15. I really have come to the conclusion that you can expect everything from Dusty. He is that bad.
  16. Just like I'm sure you'd see nothing wrong with some white guy bemoaning the fact that baseball isn't nearly as white as it was decades ago, I'm sure. It depends on how it was directed.
  17. I dislike Joe Morgan but his comments make a lot of sense and find nothing wrong with them. He does make a good point.
  18. With Dusty around he can earn and still be benched.
  19. I could give a crap what others think..I would rather have the White Sox win over the Astros. I was born and raised in Chicago and getting anywhere in the playoffs for any of the Chicago sports teams is an amazing accomplishment. I'm not a white sox fan and you will never see me wear wsox gear. To be honest there are a lot of players on the Astros that annoy me and rather not even have seen them here. It could be worse..it could be the Cardinals in there for the playoffs which IMO is even worse. My father is a WSox fan, everybody else is a Cubs fan. I wish the Cubs were in this situation but guess what..Our organization is pathetic and can't do anything right. If the Sox win it good for them, I wont be internally happy until I see the Cubs win it but the way things are going right now I don't see the pathetic losers winning one for a loooong time, maybe hit the 2 century mark who knows. It's not the curses, it's not Bartman..it's the organization as a whole who has no clue or direction to do what's necessary to get us to the top.
  20. For 2MIL Williamson is worth it. I'm sure they will also watch him pitch to see if he still has the nasty stuff left. If he does they will pick up the option.
  21. I'm not so sure yet. With the obvious dearth in free agent offensive talent beyond Giles, Konerko and Matsui and with the media here constantly reminding us how bad our bullpen was in 2004 and 2005, I could actually see Hendry looking into a Wagner, Ryan or Gordon. Based on published materials (reports and quotes in papers), I am not convinced that Dr. Hendry has correctly diagnosed the patients diseases accurately yet. I'm not hearing, "we need more OBP at the top;" I'm still hearing, "we need speed at the top;" I'm not hearing, "our OF ranked near the bottom of the NL, we need an overhaul;" I'm hearing, "we will make some changes and field a competitive team." If that's the philosophy on offensive changes, it's not much of a stretch to think he won't spend more money in the bullpen. Dr Hendry? I like it :)
  22. Why not just keep Williams as our #5 and look to trade minorleaguers for OF help.
  23. And thats the game. Astros are done for.
  24. You guys can call them lucky or whatever but coming back from a 4 run defecit against Oswalt is amazing.
