  1. No way. We need a difference maker in RF, not a Juan Enc.
  2. Colorado, 5 mil. Just a guess.
  3. Here's the article: ChicagoSports.com Very good. Can't get caught short again. Good to see Jim's building some depth and not relying on the Cubs weak minor league system. Hopefully, Mitre & Koronka (or whatever his name is) never start another game w/ the Cubs. Say goodbye to Jerome Williams. Don't believe everything you hear or read. Actions speak louder than words..
  4. i disagree. How many pitchers can we have in our bullpen and starting rotation. Unless someone gets traded or two pitchers injured where do you expect to have all of these pitchers? 13-man staff?
  5. Again, LA is getting fleeced.
  6. Why would LA get rid of two of their starting OFs? It would make no sense. Can you imagine the fallout? It's not going to happen. I can possibly see one of them go but not both of them.
  7. It would be nice but it's unrealistic.
  8. I certainly think Hendry is going to make an attempt to get him. He seems very serious about wanting 6 starters ready. Then why sign Rusch? That 3mil could be put towards a better SP like Burnett.
  9. hyperbole If Prior, Z and Wood are all healthy, the Cubs can beat anyone. That's proven to be a big if. The law of averages are with the Cubs. Hopefully the baseball gods are too. Prior and Z should be fine. If Wood goes down again, I hope he isn't wearing Cubbie blue after 2006. Law of averages with the Cubs? I'm going to go out on a limb and say I wont expect anything positive about our pitchers pertaining to injuries. This is why Cardinal fans are sooo great. They're not negative. :o They are not negative because they have positive things to talk about. When I start seeing positive things happening within this organization then I will be too. Until then, it's misery time. What exactly should be be happy about? 4th place in our division? Having the best manager in this world? Having no fundamentals and league low OBP? Ahh, it's the healthiest pitching staff that I should be happy with. I'm sure you get the gist of it. At this point in time there is nothing to be optimistic about.
  10. See, this exactly why we should have offered Drew the contract last year instead of talking about trades to get him here. Now that we have money to spend the FA class is the weakest it has ever been. Big problem Mr. Hendry.

  12. =P~ Walker 2b Murton LF Lee 1b Giles RF Ramirez 3b Drew CF Cedeno SS Barrett C Wow..wow...wow...wow. STACKED!!

  14. How many Domincan players did the Braves have? Not many. Maybe that's why he was drunk all the time.
  15. How many Domincan players did the Braves have? Not many.
  16. But only if they ate a large portion of his contract. I don't see why they would need to eat a "large" portion, or any portion for that matter. He has 3 years at 10 million a year left. That isn't burdensome by any means. He can play RF, LF, or CF so he gives us the option at looking at multiple ways to build the team. I think it is more likely the Dodgers will look to deal Bradley, but if the cost in players wasn't prohibitive, I'd take on Drew and the entire contract. FYI, it's 4 years at 11 million per left. I'd love Drew or Bradley. What's an extra million between friends? A million dollars here, a million dollars there, pretty soon, you're talking about real money. Hon. Everett Dirksen Do not bring back Neifi and Macias and the 1mil here and there will offset :)
  17. I disagree. What the Cardinals do this offseason has no effect on our success next season. As long as we improve in the areas that need improving we'll be fine. My ideal offseason would be trade for Huff, sign Furcal, and improve the bullpen. I'm fine with the rotation the way it is. Williams is a good 5th starter imo. Furcal Walker Lee Aramis Huff Murton Barret Corey With an improved bullpen, we can make the playoffs with that team. Regardless of what the Cards do. In this instance I think it does matter because it will be difficult to trade for a player the caliber of Giles. If he indeed goes to the Cards our options in RF just diminished.
  18. I would rather have Furcal but Pierre in CF and Nomar at SS sounds nice as well.
  19. Pure heresy! I was lukewarm when Kasper was hired, but he's proven that he is an excellent play-by-play guy. As he grows into the job, I think all in all, we will be very pleased with this hire. He was their 4th choice, not a ringing endorsement for the Cubs-probably one of the Top 3 broadcast jobs in the country. He's too vanilla for my tastes. I much prefer a play-by-play man who knows what they are talking about than someone with a sensationalist voice. Find me another PBP guy who has even heard of DIPS, never mind mention it on the air, then we can talk about Kasper not being the best in the biz. Harry is a HOF announcer. He knew the game better than Len, Bob, Ron, Pat, etc.. He loved the game. Do not think for a moment that he didn't. A little defensive, perhaps? I don't think anyone has said that Harry didn't know the game, didn't love the game, or didn't do a good job. Outside of a select few that do the job for fame or a paycheck, I think it's safe to say that just about everyone who broadcasts baseball games loves the game. Len does a fine job. I personally think he's a lot easier to listen to than Chip was, but that's just my opinion. I've also grown to appreciate Pat Hughes more over the past two years. I actually enjoy listening to Len and Bob.
  20. I would LOVE to end up with Burnett but I would work on the OF , and bullpen first.
  21. But only if they ate a large portion of his contract. I would do it even without eating the contract. He has speed, obp, leftie, good avg..We do this if he is available. I wanted him last year.
  22. Giles goes to Cards and we are done for.
  23. The Cubs weren't going anywhere w/ the 9th overall pitching staff. Prior was barely above average after returning from injury. Yes, his ERA was alright, but he rarely lasted past 6 innings. Wood was non-existent most of the season. A team isn't going to do much when they're counting on Maddux, Jerome Williams and pitching prospects who weren't ready. The same case can be made for the offense as well. Pitching > offense. Prior and Wood carried a weak offense into the playoffs in 03. Maybe in the beginning but lets not forget about the trade with the Pirates which significantly made the offense much better. Having Lofton and Ramirez proved to be a huge difference. Pitching is great and all but it wont get you runs, and without runs you will not win. Believe me the offense was a huge problem and the lack of patience and fundamentals did us in. EDIT: Going back to 2005 Neither the pitching or hitting was good enough to get us to the playoffs.
