  1. I personally think that's too redundant. Not enough power and too many slap hitters. I think Lee, Ramirez and Wilkerson give you some power in the middle. All of those are capable of 30+ HRs. Barrett also brings some punch in the 8th spot. I also think each of those hitters are capable of a 350+ OBP, so there's not a lot of outs in that line-up. While I'd like more power as well, I think that team would score a fair share of runs. It would also be a pretty good defensive team as well, especially in the middle infield. True, quality players all the way around and def better than last year.

  3. If indeed Matsui is available we go after him no question.
  4. Totally agree. I would like to have Furcal here but we def need to solidify our OF.
  5. No, its not blatantly obvious that Hendry is a moron. No it is not a fact that Hendry is single-handedly imploding the organization. There is far more evidence to support that Hendry is not a moron and has improved this ball club than there is evidence to support the contrary. How soon you all forget. I'll let Bruce Miles take over now... How does a moron or a complete idiot or any of the other names he has been called do all of that in just a couple of years? Pull your heads out of your butts people and see both sides. Is he perfect? No. Is he a moron? No. Does he have differing views on baseball than some of us? Clearly. Does that mean that he is wrong and we are right? No. You are free to over-react and vent all you want on these pages. But it does get old. Especially when there is evidence presented to you that counters many of the over-reactions. That evidence often gets ignored and the bashing continues. There are more sides to be seen and understood than just your own. From what I have seen from last offseason and this one yes he is a moron. Maybe you should get your head out of your butt. I guess 4th place in the division with a 100mil payroll is good enough for you. Well it isn't for me. So far this offseason has been a HUGE dissapointment. Hey man, ignore the evidence if you want. I'm just tryin' to keep it real. Hey man I understand you want to keep it real and I agree Hendry has made some nice moves but at the same time we were a 4th place team last year and in 2004 we missed the playoffs mainly because Hendry did not trade for a closer when Hawkins was struggling. You want to give Hendry the benefit of te doubt and by all means that's fine but at the same token this is a difficult year to acquire players that can make a difference and past history tells me Hendry isn't the type to throw money around. I think Hendry can still turn it around but his latest two moves reak of what he has done in the past and that will not get us playing into october. I have many reasons to support my theories and believe me I would not want nothing more than seeing the Cubs win it all.
  6. Perez isnt going anywhere and that bugs me. Why else would we sign him to a 2 year contract. I'm really worried that this offseason is going to be a huge dissapointment.
  7. I thought it was just Hoops speculating. I don't think it's an actual sourced rumbling. Yeah that. Z isn't going anywhere.
  8. Yeah, but people here get criticized for saying the same things that person in the article is saying. Sometimes Hendry can do no wrong in the eyes of some.
  9. I'll just randomly repeat the quote above in case it gets lost anywhere in this thread. Look at those numbers closely. Yep, that was our first bat off the bench in '05. If Macias is back that just goes to show you how incompetent the GM and manager are when you give a contract to a pinch-hitter with a .185 AVG.
  10. We have the money to solidify the bullpen. I would go after both. I really like Dotel but I don't think he can be effective until midseason coming off TJ surgery.
  11. The sad thing is those scenarios are very possible. Let's see how many optimistic people will be left if they come to fruition.
  12. He said no one saw Hollandsworth struggles coming. :x See man. I will say this though. Hendry pretty much said that he has failed the past two years. At least he can recognize that. Yeah, that was the only part of the interview that irritated me. I don't think the questions were the right ones, though. I would have asked about: -Why not Brian Giles? -Aramis' offseason stretching program -Dotel? -Rule 5 draft guys; why not trade some? -Why not let Neifi go test the market and save money? -OBP in the 1-2 spots. Agreed. Those questions would have been excellent to ask.

  14. I wouldn't mind Huff. Baez would be a decent arm out of the bullpen as well.
  15. Hendry interview going to be on any moment on ESPN 1000. http://espnradio1000.com/listenlive.asp
  16. Just heard on ESPN that Maddux called Furcal trying to persuade him to come here. Interesting.
  17. Hmm.. Tough decision. If the Braves indeed lock up Furcal I think Neifi will start and considering the incompetent manager we have and the bad luck the Cubs have I will vote for starter.
  18. They did ask about Corey but I missed that part. After Hendry left they did say it sounded like Corey was a goner. Also asked about Pierre but Hendry kinda went around that question. They will replay the Hendry interview a little later. EDIT: I forgot to add that they asked about Wood and Hendry is expecting him to be fully healthy and into the rotation. He also mentioned that he will be working in a backup plan just in case.
  19. Somebody post a recap! Talked about Dempster and how he is happy with him at the closer role. At this point nt looking for the high-priced closers to sign. Mentioned Baker's credentials and how you have to look at what he did as a whole instead of one thing. Also said team has been affected by injuries Mentioned that he isnt worry about the contract extensions to him and Baker. Mentioned that Lee deserves a good contract. Sounds like they will work on that with Lee's agent. Nomar door not completely closed on returning. Will talk to agent this week. Thats all I got..
