  1. Do you think the Cubs could get Neifi to restructure his contract, so that the Cubs could sign AGone from the Marlins?
  2. NO ONE would have taken Sosa w/ that trade kicker. If people think Burnitz was bad, how would they had liked Sosa in rf last year. Talk about the worse outfield in baseball history. What do you expect when expect Hollandsworth to be your LF. Hendry didnt even reconsider resigning Alou or others to a contract. Hendry is at fault for the abysmal OF that HE put together last year. Thanks for the laugh. That is FLAT OUT INCORRECT, but if it helps on your baseless assault of Hendry, keep bringing it. He's been on record as saying he WANTED to keep alou, but was handcuffed by the SOSA situation. If you want to lie to prove your point go ahead, but it's still an absolutely blatent lie. If there's one thing I can't take, it's disparaging someone based on a lie. If hendry is as awful as goony and you say he is, there should be enough ammo that isn't based on the Bush Administration's credo : lie and tell it often enough, people will believe you. No sir you are incorrect. If Hendry really wanted to keep Alou he could have. Where did he find the cash to sign Burnitz to a 6mil deal? I would rather have Alou over Burnitz that's fore sure. Obviously you think Hendry can do no wrong but there's a reason why people here are dissapointed and upset. Instead you want to call me a liar. Whatever makes you feel better, I could give a rats..
  3. They haven't been. In fact, the signing of Eyre hasn't been reported yet. It was a report on WSCR that said the Cubs could sign Eyre by the end of the day. The report apparently mentioned nothing about terms, check me if I'm wrong. That is what we know, and, more importantly, what we don't know. The rest is, well... ESPN mentioned the same thing as well.
  4. You dont like it dont read it.
  5. Why would Dusty care how much money Hendry is paying a particular player? I think we've all agreed that Hendry has little input on who Dusty plays, so why does Dusty care? If I understand this correctly, Dusty's thinking is "I think that Murton would be a better player than Alou, but because Jim is paying Alou $7 million I guess I better start him instead." I can't imagine why Dusty would care about what anyone is being paid. I'm pretty sure Dusty has been quoted saying "Player A isn't being paid X to sit the bench" or something to that effect. If I can find a link to that I'll have to change my sig. I'm pretty sure he said that as well.

What do you expect when expect Hollandsworth to be your LF. Hendry didnt even reconsider resigning Alou or others to a contract. Hendry is at fault for the abysmal OF that HE put together last year. That's a legit criticism, but would you want Alou starting in LF this year in front of Murton and making $7 million to boot?? The Cubs aren't going to bench anyone making $7 mil. Probably not but chances are Murton wouldnt even be here in the first place. Alou was one example though. It really bothered me to see Hendry get rid of Sosa and not add a good option. You figure Burnitz cost us 6mil. If we pennypinched at other spots we could easily had a bid ready for the other OFs available.

  8. On Hendry's latest interview he even admitted fault to how that Sosa situation was handled. That should tell you right there how bad it was and how quickly that diminshed Sosa's value.
  9. Yep. I view these boards every day, and have for months even before I joined, and I've gotta say that there's been a lot of conclusion-jumping going on around here lately. (And that's not to say that I'm completely exempt from doing it either!) Naturally, during an offseason following a few very disappointing seasons, some emotions are going to be running high, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. If you want to say Hendry sucks and is a moron, that's fine, but he's the same Hendry who has come through in the past and until the offseason is over, it'll be very hard pass true judgement upon him. If you hate him, that's completely fine, (this is a place for people to share their opinions after all), but when he makes a great deal to help our team, don't jump on his bandwagon (or bandWGN) all of a sudden. This is like the situation a team's manager faces after a game ends on a suicide squeeze: The manager sends the runner on 3rd for a game-winning suicide squeeze, but when the runner is called out, the media and fans criticize the manager for calling for such a risky move. However, had the move been successful, people would've been praising his name and talking about how great of a manager he was. We don't know the whole of Hendry's moves. And by assuming that the moves he's made, the comments he's stated, are to be taken 100% at face value, yeah, he's a moron. But for just one second, consider that there's some strategy in what he's doing. There's a reason he's a general manager for a major league ballclub - odds are, he knows what he's doing. If not, we can rag on him, but let's just see if there's some sort of master plan he's working on before shooting him down. You mean the Hendry who only came through in 2003? Last year we were 4th in our division. In 2004 we choked and a case could be made that the only reason we made it to the playoffs in 2003 was because the Cards and Astros faultered at the end. No I dont have that much faith in Hendry and last time he did something was 3 years ago. If history is any indicator of future success I would have to say that Hendry and the 100mil payroll does not know what he's doing.
  10. Yes, and with the financial fexibility we sign Perez, Rusch, and Eyre to blaoted and ridiculous contracts. I have lost faith in the man and it all stems in 2004 when he didnt trade for a closer when Hawkins was blowing saves left and right.
  11. If he has another disaster like last year and he and Dusty both recieve extentions as is rumored, then nobody here has a leg to stand on when trying to claim that the Trib wants to win. The Trib put all its trust in Andy, and they've given management alll the resources they could use to build a winner. It's the management that has let down Cubs fans, not the ownership. But don't you think the Trib should be responsible for cleaning house if the management team they put in isn't getting the job done? The fact they've let it go on this long shows me they don't care as much as they should. To be somewhat fair they were within a few outs of the World Series two years ago. I doubt the Trib will eat both Hendry and Baker's contracts when they were so close, not so long ago. Not saying I agree but they did bring them to the brink not too long ago. Yes, but look at the personnel and management moves that have been made since then. The Lee and Nomar trades were the big ones, but you can't keep Hendry here just because of those moves. You have to look deeper at the Alfonseca fiasco, the Neifi and Macias situations, etc. I agree, I am in no way defending Hendry, just trying to look at it from the Tribunes point of view. I think Hendry's biggest problems are his offseason signings. As far as the trade front goes I think he has done a good job beginning with Ramirez, Lee, Lofton, Simon, Karros and Grudz, I even was thrilled he got Williams and Aardsma for Hawkins. He has brought in some quality players but has been unable to put the Cubs over the top because of some of these moronic FA signings. I think he has totally sabotaged the team and his own legacy. That sounds about right. I have said before and I will mention it again. Hendry looks to sign talent at a discount. The problem with that is the top talent wont sign to a discount contract. I dont think we will see Hendry put a 4/40 million on the table for anybidy but we'll see.
  12. Yeah, everybody thought a big trade was coming last offseason too after Sosa left. I'm taking the wait and see approach.
  13. I don't like this move. Hendry dissapoints me.
  14. Hendry set himself up for failure this offseason. When there were a ton of options available the past 2 years he barely made any splashes on the FA market. And now that he has the money there are barely any options for us available. Hendry needs to pull a Messiah-like miracle of an offseason to get us back to being contenders. I won't hold my breath.
  15. Aren't we just one year removed from Hendry's unequivocable assertion that Chemistry wins pennants? Yeah, like Hendry has any idea about that..
  16. The listed the Cubs twice. It could be a good omen.
  17. You know what, as long as we upgrade our CF and RF position I could care less if we sign an older Giles. A strong emphasis on upgrade CF and RF though.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if that's how Hendry thinks.
  19. The Cubs supposedly talked to LA about Bradley. Nothing substantive, but multiple sources did report that conversations occured. Very interesting. We need to do this move. having Murton, Bradley, and Mench(Giles) would be a very good OF.
  20. Getting Bradley would be huge for us IMO, but Hendry would never do it.
  21. Cubs have all this money to spend and not a damn thing to show for it...
  22. Exercise his leg muscles, running, and stretching would really help him.
  23. According to reports coming in Cedeno hasn't played a lick of 2B this offseason.
  24. Interesting. Too bad he couldn't figure it out. The talent was there to be a good relief pitcher. Here's hoping we get something good in return.
