  1. I dont think it's hate but a matter of what Hendry is doing and what options he is looking at to improve the ball club. Eyre and Howry are nto the top RP free agents available and Hendry is already giving out bloated contracts to them. I for one am surprised Hendry is paying this much for setup men when he has been burned twice in the past with Hawkins and Remlinger. I guess you can make a case that Baker did not properly use Rem and Hawk but at the same time that brings up the question of why is Baker still here?
  2. From what I heard on ESPN 1000 it sounds like the offer is on the table. It depends if Howry accepts it or not.
  3. Everything is prejudice or discrimination these days. Maybe the fact that Carpenter played for a team that went to the playoffs had something to do with it. The funny thing is they mention how Willis won the ROY over Webb well I for one thought Webb pitched better but Dontrelle was on a better team and had all the hype so he won it. Where's the prejudice there? Sounds like double-standards to me.
  4. Oh well at least they have 2 WS in 10 years. I wish I could say the same about the Cubs.
  5. I don't believe Walker or Nomar got a raw deal, or are getting a raw deal. I just think the Cubs are making a mistake with them. If they end up improving the trade with a Walker trade, I'll have no problem. That's part of the reason I really wanted that option picked up. Now if Hendry does sign Howry that in my mind means he will use Walker in a package to get a quality impact bat...fingers crossed. That is if there is one available. There are ALWAYS impact bats available via trade. It's only November so there is plenty of time for Hendry to wheel and deal, and we know he's looking at the trade market so... Here's hoping it's not Encarnacion/Jones/Burnitz/Hunter etc. We'll see but you are right the options you mentioned are not acceptable.

  7. If we are relying on Dusty to bring free agents here we are in a world of hurt. Eyre got overpaid to come here so what do you expect him to say? he came here for the money? if course not even though that is the correct answer.
  8. Not a bad idea at all. Trade for Lugo(SS) and Huff(RF) also trade for Pierre in CF, leave Walker at 2B (or Cedeno) and all of a sudden we have a really good offensive team. I would be very happy with that offense.
  9. The problem is we signed both type A free agents who are average. Add that money up, Rusch, and Perez and you could easily get BJ Ryan. But as far as I'm concerned we have more holes to fill than the bullpen right now.
  10. With Dusty we are going to need a good amount of bullpen help because let's face it he ruins arms and needs a plethora of options of available. At the same time though I haven't seen one thing done to the offense that is an improvement. The offseason is young but I am concerned there are really no options available to Hendry for RF. Sure, you might say Giles but it sounds like Hendry isn't interested. We still have a lot of holes. Wood can't be counted on, our offense right now isn't good enough, and our bench last year was abysmal. We need to start directing our energy towards offense if we want to have a shot at the playoffs.
  11. For the record, if Williamson is healthy he will be better than both Howry and Eyre.
  12. Our offense was a bigger problem than our bullpen. No question.
  13. Well our track record for signing setup men has been abysmal so..
  14. What a great deal for the Red Sox. I'm starting to think our top prospects dont compare to other team's top prospects.
  15. You are being entirely too negative about the quality of Eyre and Howry. These guys aren't scrubs. As for the money, big deal, at least it's being spent on something here that can help the team, unlike the Neifi and Rusch signings. An improved Cub bullpen is worth an extra 8 to 10 games over the course of a season. That's puts us back to the upper 80 win total category and a playoff contender again. Add a leadoff man and some respectable outfielders and this team is ready to go. He gave Eyre and is reportedly offering Howry THREE YEARS. Not smart. I'd rather have Ryan for 3/24 and have Novoa still in the pen than Eyre and Howry at their(reported in Howry's case) deals. Yeah that. For the amount of both relievers we can get a stud RP.
  16. I don't think it's a given that Howry has signed with us, correct? Or did I miss something? No just thinking out loud if we did sign him...sorry.
  17. I just dont understand..Howry is a good pickup but for the amount we would be paying for Eyre and Howry we could get BJ Ryan or Wagner and have an even more dominating bullpen. Kinda pricy but Howry is pretty good. I still want to see offense though..
  18. I know there was talk before about Hendry being really high on Vazquez. I'm not against trading for him.
  19. I would gladly take Beckett and Castillo off their hands.
  20. I find it interesting that Hendry hasn't made a formal offer but yet Kinzer knows what limits the Cubs have set. My guess is Hendry doesn't want to negotiate until Furcal makes up his mind to return to the Braves or not. I also think that may indicate that the Cubs will go further than any other team so far and Kinzer is looking for a better deal. We all know Kinzer wants 5/50 or more. My guess is the Cubs won't go that far...probably 4/40 or 5/45...something like that. Kinzer wants more and the Cubs have laid a framework to get something done if Furcal decides he wants to play in Chicago. Sounds like Hendry is pretty confident that Furcal is coming to the Cubs.
  21. Burnett might be worth 10-12M per year, but 5 years? ouch. I agree. The amount of years and money I hear for Furcal and Burnett are scary.
  22. I see no reason to get rid of Williams especially for Morris who IMO you don;t know which Morris you will be getting. If you want to make a run at SP, Burnett should be the man but he comes at a price.
  23. I would take Hill over Macias any day. I remember him not doing too bad for the Pirates in a bench role.
