  1. The Cubs weren't going anywhere w/ the 9th overall pitching staff. Prior was barely above average after returning from injury. Yes, his ERA was alright, but he rarely lasted past 6 innings. Wood was non-existent most of the season. A team isn't going to do much when they're counting on Maddux, Jerome Williams and pitching prospects who weren't ready. The same case can be made for the offense as well.
  2. HAHAHA, that would have been great.
  3. I agree - I've always thought he was one of the most overrated minds in baseball. My impression is that he's very good at dissecting in game situations, but terrible when it comes to evaluating players and teams as a whole. I completely agree. I honestly think that Stoney would make a much better skipper than GM. He knows how to use the talent given to him on the field. That being said, I doubt he'd want to be a manager and I doubt I'd want him as a manager. He'd be every bit as outgoing and brash as Ozzie though. The media would love him. I'll take Stoney over Dusty in a second. I'll take a piece of stone over Dusty any day.
  4. I always have been iffy on Looper. If the price is right why not but I wouldnt give him anything close to what he will probably get on the open market.
  5. Has he learned nothing from last off season? Chemistry is such overrated garbage. I'm telling you there is a reason why year in year our we always have the same glaring holes. No game plan.
  6. Just heard some tidbits on the score and Hendry was talking about the signing and he had to say that he signe dhim because Rusch is a very good clubhouse guy and also, there were nto many options available out there that could do his role. What a bunch of crock. So let's go out there and sign the best cluibhouse guys..World Series here we come. What a crock.
  7. Doesn't matter. If it was up to me I would go for Burnett. Realistically speaking the Cubs will go after neither.
  8. Berrian is out for at least 5-6 weeks. I'm thinkin Gage will be our guy not that it is a good thing.
  9. :?: I can understand wanting to allocate resources elsewhere than SP, but if we were to target one, Millwood would be my guy. Why don't you like him? I would rather have Burnett.
  10. Bradley our for the year. Torn ACL. This blows.
  11. I'll take that bet. As a Tribune shareholder, it would be very hard for me to see Hendry get anything beyond $102M from the executive management based on a 79-83 season. Agreed. If you ask me, we will be lucky to get 100mil but that's a hunch.
  12. I don't think that's accurate. My recollection is that Dusty justified using Mark Guthrie (instead Dave Veres and others) in the 10th inning of Game 1, because he did not want Veres "to have to face Lenny Harris," who was available as a pinch hitter from the left side. So instead, he used Guthrie -- and the Marlins usedLowell, who was available as a pinch hitter from the right side. yup, it's called being outmanaged. We see a lot of that with Dusty.
  13. Wow! Not a chance. Trading TWO guys who's values are at their lowest along with another guy who is very productive given his salary. With all of these suggestions for Cedeno to be penciled in as a starter, does anyone have any projections for him for a full season? What if he has an offensive season that looks like Patterson's past season? Can the Cubs win with that kind of everyday production? Who is his back up if that's the best he can do? Because we don't know whether he can be a plus production guy or a minus production guy, I don't think it's a good idea to pencil him in as a starter on a team that is in desperate need to improve offensively. I believe the best course of action is to resign Nomar have Cedeno on the bench and trade for MGiles or LCastillo for 2B, and hopefully sign BGiles for OF.
  14. Our team really isn't that indisicplined, top to bottom. It's more a problem of a few incredibly bad players killing the team OBP. Out of DLee, TWalk, ARam, Nomar, Barrett, and Murton, that's 6 out of 8 starters who are fairly disciplined, none of them are easy strike outs. Corey, the black hole in RF, and the bench are just so bad that they make the whole team look bad. Is anyone else scared that RF after Sammy is starting to look like 3B after Santo? By getting rid of Perez, Macias and Burnitz we would be an improved team. I'm not too worried about OF because they are easier to find than 3Bs. But it doesnt mean I'm not worried abotu RF this year though.
  15. I think we could get something of value, Patterson still has as much talent as anyone in baseball. He also has speed, and power, and youth. He could make as much as 3m this coming year. Please name a team that would be willing to pay 3m for a guy who hit .215 AVG last year and has a career OBP of .293. If you find a team willing to pay him 3m to play for them, now tell me what you think they would be willing to give up to get him? IMO, you give him away and get peanuts in return, or you keep him and hope he starts living up to his potential. Giving him away right now is giving up another guy when his value is at an all time low. Bad idea. If we can upgrade RF and resign Nomar(and have Cedeno on the bench, not Perez) I would be OK with having Corey in the 8th or 9th hole.
  16. That's what the problem is. Hendry has set up this offseason to be another failure. His lack of moves last offseason when decent options were available are really going to hurt us now that not many options are available this offseason. I want to be optimistic about this offseason but I just can't. Hindsight can be clouded. I see this said all the time but it isn't a very complete or fair statement. Many of the marquee big names signed last offseason by other teams spent many games on the DL and (assuming same injury in Cubs uniform) would have been labeled a JH failure anyway. I don't think so, say the Cubs signed Drew, Beltran, or Ordonez (at a reduced rate than what he signed for). I would've had no problem to this day about the signing. Their backgrounds would a higher indicator of future success than Burnitz or Hollandsworth. Agreed.

No, I dont think so. I knew we wouldn't make the playoffs. Some of the players that were injured were hit by pitches. You dont know if they would follow the same fate if they were Cubs. The simple fact that he didnt attempt to bring in one of the better OF here was a concern. Especially considering the difference in price from Burnitz to Drew was 5mil. Mayeb he should've never gave raises to Perez and Macias.
  18. Yeah, nice plan. Not exactly a vote of confidence.

  20. We can seriously get nothing more than a bag of penauts for Corey anyways so even if he does get traded, don't even expect a decent minor-leaguer.
  21. I dont think Garcia would finish the game if he had to play the Bears again next week. He got rocked. I am concerned about Bradley. He was really coming into his own this game.
  22. One name comes to mind..Dusty Baker
