  1. Thats the thing. he won't be the 5th starter unless injury. We already have 5 starters so we would be giving 3mil to Rusch for long relief.
  2. the sox won the world series with el duke as the #5 and he was 9-9 with a 5.12 era. i think rusch will be a better than average #5. That's not the point. Next year we will have Wood,Prior, Z, Maddux, Williams yet we are about to give 3mil per for Rusch? We can use that money to bolster the bullpen and bench.
  3. He's 37 though and he can break down at any time. This is not the direction the Cubs should go.
  4. Whoever gets Reggie goes to the playoffs. Yeah, because he took the Pirates there 3 years ago.
  5. Yeah, we'll ride Reggie to the WS. The second coming of Burnitz.
  6. If that's the case we better have a new CF and RF to go with Murton if we want to be successful.
  7. Maddux will be here next year you can bank on it. This is BS. This is exactly the type of move I did not want to see from Hendry.
  8. OMG!! This is terrible! Hendry is up to his BS again.
  9. No of us knows what's going to happen, but Hendry may have looked at Dusty and realized that Dusty wouldn't play Cedeno anyhow, so re-sign Walker, go after Furcal, and use Cedeno as a middle infield sub or as trade bait. If that's the case Hendry is an idiot for not firing Dusty.
  10. Considering it was Hendry and his approach toward players, I think it is unlikely that Hendry would trade Walker based on the extreme discount he signed with us at. That is, unless, someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse, or if Walker agreed to be traded to certain teams. Walker asked the Cubs to decline the option if they had plans on trading him, stating that he'd like to be able to choose where he plays next year if the Cubs didn't want him. I can definitely see Hendry honoring his request. Maybe, but at the end it still is a request and it can be denied if necessary. Walker is a good trading chip right now. I'm nto against Walker being here, i actually think he's good but it will all depend on what direction Hendry takes.
  11. Just because the option has been picked up doesn't mean he won't be traded.
  12. I hope not. I like Soriano but he just isn't a right fit right now for the Cubs. He is a Hendry player though. A player who hits homers and Ks a lot.
  13. Lee is first in majors.
  14. I highly doubt that. 91-93 is where he was when he pitched in a spring training game after having his surgery.
  15. Correct. Though Vazquez was a pretty darned good pitcher before the work caught up to him. Remember that Prior vs. Vazquez matchup from 2003? Incredible. That was an amazing game.
  16. It sounds like Guzman lost some velocity after the injury. Sounds like he might be damaged goods at this point.
  17. Reports are that he'll be ready by Spring Training. It's time to make Octavio a nice incentive-laden deal to set-up Dempster. That would be a good pickup but even though he will be ready chances are he wont be effective until mid-season.
  18. It was very obvious last year that having Dusty here was a bad idea. Hendry constructed a team last year that had no chance of winning IMO, but Dusty didn't help the matters either. Dusty does a terrible job of putting the lineup together. Terrible!! That has been the case for a long time now even before last year. He doesnt play the best players at their respective positions only because they are not "veterans." I'm going to puke if I see Macias and Perez on the roster again. Some people on this forum mentioned dusty-proofing the team for us to be successful. They do have a point but I find it ridiculous that we need to take those steps to be successful. Hendry and Dusty both have flaws that are not conducive to winning championships. Dusty being gone will make us a better club but I'm at the point now where I think Hendry might need to leave as well but I'll wait until April before I make a decision on that.
  19. I dont want Soriano here period. He is the same type of player we do not want to add.
  20. Yes it could. One other point about next year's pen, for the love of God Dusty you only need SIX relievers. I cant believe that last year we had 12 pitchers the entire season. He better not pull that crap again, especially if Macias is your first option off the bench.
  21. And the feeling I get with Corey is that he is content at where he is at, with his baseball career. Which is unacceptable. Where is the competitor? Where is the "drive?" I don't get that, at all. Wasn't he the first person at Spring Training this year? Hasn't he been working with the Cubs on his swing (in Mesa?) since immediately after the season ended? Oh, but he doesn't through a fit when he strikes out. I guess he doesn't have the "drive". I won't question Corey's work ethic, but I feel that he just doesn't get it.
  22. Who knows we can all speculate. Giles, Furcal and Burnett would be nice :)
  23. If Giles goes to the Cards we are done for.
  24. I'm not against bringing Corey back but only if the other positions were upgraded especially the corner OFs. Corey would bat in the 8th spot.
