  1. You have got to be kidding me. Did we make the playoffs in 2004 or 2005? Maybe you don't know this but we were 4th in our division last year. That is terrible!! All I care about is results and the past two year Hendry and Baker did nothing of the sort. I concede that Hendry sold us short in 2005, but very little of the blame for the 2004 season can be laid at Hendry's feet. I'm not so sure about that. Although our offense was stacked we still had some glaring holes and the most important being our closer. Everybody and their mother knew that Hawkins should not be in the role and Hendry decided to acquire Jose Mesa after waivers? Of course it was going to get blocked. Hawkins futility in that role, lack of fundamentals, and our sputtering offense cost us a playoff berth.
  2. He is part of the problem. We did not make playoffs two year straight and were 4th place in our division. Yeah, real winners..

  4. 2004 also had its flaws...
  5. 97mph..that sounds good to me.
  6. I highly doubt that. 91-93 is where he was when he pitched in a spring training game after having his surgery. When was this?
  7. Does anyone else see Cedeno as a super-sub Freel type of guy that could play 3rd, short, or 2nd? He can give ARam's brittle legs rest, Nomar's explosive groin rest, and he can give Walker rest. I think he can be a starter.
  8. Didn't Grudz sign a 2 year deal?
  9. I personally am indifferent about it. I would take either of them. Then you haven't seen Hernandez play much then. I live in So Cal and saw him a lot and he's got THE ENTIRE PACKAGE and hands down is a better option than Barrett at the position. Hernandez is a REAL Catcher and Barrett is a freak experiment gone wrong and appearently most Cub fans haven't realized that. What exactly about Barrett do you not like? He did a real good job of throwing baserunners out and I personally think the high team ERA had to do with our pitchers moreso than Barrett. There was a thread some time ago that showed all pitcher's ERAs cmparing both of our catchers and it was a moot point.
  10. After signing Rusch to an extension when he yet again bid against himself for his services I am at the point where I have no more faith in Hendry to get us to the playoffs in 2006. What do you guys think?
  11. I personally am indifferent about it. I would take either of them.
  12. I for one was one of the people who complained we needed offense from that position when Miller was here so I am happy Barrett is here. Barrett did indeed have on of the best pitching staffs when he was in Montreal. Maybe the pitchers should look in the mirror if they think the catcher is the one making them a worse pitcher.
  13. If healthy, no doubt in my mind he will be our setup man. He is that good. Also is young too.
  14. I'll give him Demspter as well, but this Rusch situation scares me.
  15. Nice! Good to see Williamson back. So far, we have two good moves (Walker and Williamson), one debatable move that will probably turn out to be positive (Dempster) and one move that probably shouldn't have been made (Rusch). I'll take that. I really dont like the Rusch move. Hendry yet again outbid himself for Rusch's services.
  16. Bottom line our OF would not be good enough with Murton, Corey, and Sanders. Actually, it will be as good as last year..ranked last.
  17. I have to wonder something. Hendry should know by now that Rusch is at his best as a regular starter. However, this makes me curious... Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Maddux, Hill, Williams, and Rusch can all start next season. I'm thinking that guys such as Pinto and Nolasco will also be ready for the rotation if called upon during some point next season. Yet, there's only a 5 man rotation. I'm thinking this deal just made Rich Hill and Jerome Williams much more expendable... Are you saying what I think you're saying because if you are I might agree. If Hendry does that I want an impact bat and not Soriano. Soriano is exactly the player Hendry coverts: toolsy, power, fast. Those 30 SB's must look awfully tempting to the scout in him. I hope I'm wrong. You forgot high K rate and low OBP. Hendry, the anti-Beane of GMs.

I'm thinking this deal just made Rich Hill and Jerome Williams much more expendable... That's why I really believe that Hendry doesn't have any game plan whatsoever.
  19. Exactly. That is why this is complete bs.
  20. Unless the Cubs are moving Murton to SS in a double switch. That would prove the existence of the "Dusty Dice". And be hilarious. While they're at it they should move ARam to CF, Lee to C and Barrett to closer. Once Macias went to CF anything is possible. I'll take Glendon being signed as long as Macias, Perez and Burnitz are not. Macias in CF... What a joke that was.
  21. To me, this just seems like Hendry is patching holes again instead of replacing them. I'm starting to really think Hendry has no gameplan. If he thinks you are valuable he will bring you back, yet he won't know where to place you or put you on the roster. I'm telling you we are going to have a 12-man pitching staff again, and I dont like this move one bit.
  22. He was going to get $2M if he picked up his player option anyway. Maybe the Cubs figured signing him to a 2-year deal for say, $2.5M in 2006 and $3.5M in 2007 (I'm making those numbers up) would be good insurance for injuries this season, and some rotation protection after 2006 should Maddux and Wood both leave via free agency. I will remind you that in 5 starts in May he pitched 30 innings and gave up only 8 earned runs, and then in September he had 5 starts where he pitched 31 innings and gave up a respectable 12 earned runs, and went 4-0. He was only really bad in June when he started against the Yankees and Red Sox, and was horrendous out of the pen. I think it's fair to say, he has been an effective starter in 2004 and 2005. I don't see a move like this hurting the Cubs offseason plans. They could still go after another starter in free agency, which would be the clue that they are planning on taking things very, very slow with Wood. Let's get ready for the 12-man pitching staff again.
  23. If this is indeed true Hendry hasn't learned a damn thing being GM here.
