  1. It's probably the same m.o. behind Haren being shopped. If we offer something impressive, he'll deal him. So...what would a fair deal for Swisher be? It seems we're shopping Prior. So...how about like Prior/Gallagher/Colvin for Swisher? Beane loves OBP, not something Colvin exactly excells at. I bet he'd like a Murton type hitter. Could Prior/Gallagher/Murton net the Cubs Swisher? That would be a huge boost to the Cubs offense. It's been pointed out, but 36M over what should be his prime years - ages 27 thru 31 - would be a huge bargain if Swisher continues along his trajectory, and maybe boost his power numbers playing at Wrigley. Hudson is completely redundant and not an exciting enough player to warrant pursuing IMO. I don't know why Hendry can't just sit tight with Dero at 2nd. Could be a move that could be made. Do you know were Swishers HR's were hit?
  2. That guy! I love that Illinois is basically in a no-lose situation. Everyone expects them to get blown out, so they can only impress. People who think Illinois is going to get blown out either just hate Illinois or they don't follow Illinois or both. We were being blown out just once this season and it was the first game of the season. And we ended up losing by just 4. USC is playing well right now, but did anybody watch the USC/UCLA game? USC didn't look all that dominating to me. They looked much better against Arizona St. to me. If there was a Pac Ten vs Big Ten challenge in football, how many games do you think the Big Ten would win of the following? Maybe two or three, like they do in basketball vs the ACC. OSU vs. USC Illinois vs. ASU Mich vs. Oregon State Wisc vs. UCLA Penn State vs. Oregon Iowa vs. Arizona Indiana vs. Wash State Mich state vs. Stanford Purdue vs. California Northwestern vs. Washington Indiana vs. Best High school team in California Seriously? The Big 10 might win every one of those. I'd probably give the Pac 10 2 wins. seriously. let's see, stanford: terrible, california: can't beat anyone, oregon: terrible, ucla: lost to notre dame at home, wash st: coach just got fired for being bad, arizona: bad, washington: average, usc: lost to stanford. i actually think that minnesota could beat stanford, oregon, wash st., and maybe arizona--and minnesota was unbelievably bad. What teams outside of the Big 10 did your league beat this year that were BCS over 500 teams? Cal beat Tenn, Oregon beat....Michigan by how much? This at a quick glance and UCLA beat a top 20 BYU.
  3. Does anyone know if the #1 team one week before the BCS was completely bumped out of the BCS games?
  4. These guys will be dead and buried by the time that list comes out.
  5. I wonder if they'll consider keeping him One would hope so. Given that teams are lining up to trade for him, the logical conclusion is that he's a valuable commodity. But, knowing the Cubs, they'll non-tender him because he doesn't play right field or hit left-handed. Prior's fools gold, I hope the Cubs get what they can for him. I don't think he's quite fools gold, but I don't have a problem with the Cubs trading him. There just aren't that many success stories when it comes to pitchers coming back from serious shoulder injury. Plus I think both sides are pretty much ready to move on at this point. I'm really hoping that somebody overpays for him looking at his potential and if the Cubs can add him to a blockbuster deal to get an impact player I'd be thrilled. I really see him having a 500 career with a worse than average WHIP once he actually can pitch. If the Cubbies can get more value than that I'd like the deal.
  6. I hope he goes to Oakland so they can say Jason Bay batting for the city, by the city by the bay.

  8. If he hits 200 and has a 330 OBP, yeah, he walks a lot.
  9. Beamer was the same way. Funny how that works...you have the people who it effects the most decide who goes. I like Tubberville's too. He doesn't rank USF but has Central Florida 25, I suppose beating his team 19th and CFlorida 64-12 isn't quite good enough. Beamer was actually very fair though. The only way for his team to make the natl champ game was to be above LSU in the poll and he put LSU #1 in his poll. Since they killed his team he had to.

  11. I think a good possibility for clutch hitting is how the pitcher attacks the hitter when a man is in scoring position. I wonder if there have been any studies to show the percentage of fastballs thrown and off speed when a runner is in scoring position. For example. Say Z throws 80% fastballs but once a runner is in scoring position does he change that pattern than he does with no one on? If so, does he try to go to the batters weaknesses or does he go to his own strength? If a big percentage of pitchers do go either off speed or fastball wouldn't that change the idea of it just being the batter that is clutch? Do they have clutch pithing and a that breakdown of pitches thrown by pitches in that situation?
  12. I keep reading that but for some reason I never see the 30-24 lucky win over Auburn or the 41-34 over a bad Bama team.

  14. Isn't Swisher a butcher in the field? Is he good or is it you guys want him because he's an ex-Cubs son?
  15. I like Miles poll. No SEC bias there at all.
  16. But this is what the BCS is based upon, I so love an educated voter. I'm replying to all the coaches votes, not just this one. Where did you guys get this info?
  17. i don't blame the twins though. the rumored offers for santana have been incredibly weak. I agree. The Angels have put a very nice package together though.
  18. I'm hoping he's just talking him up so that teams think they're getting something special if he throws him in at the last minute in a trade. It seems to work for the Yanks.
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3138088 Hughes, Melky and one average prospect for a top 3 pitcher? I don't think so. Is the Sox offer better?
  20. And this is why we should know who is cheating and who isn't. If I were a GM I'd hire Jim Rockford for 200 bucks a day plus expenses and get the dirt on who's cheating and who ain't. But Rockford will get the word on the street from Angel Martin and that always leads to trouble! :D Ah yes but the hooker (Rita Moreno) would get him out of it. If Roberts can play SS, and I'll bet he's as good defensively as Theriot, it would be a bad move depending on the cost.
  21. Meph I am with you on this one. I think they should have a 11 game season. 8 conference games. 1 game against a school from another BCS conference. 1 game against a school from a non-bcs con. These 2 games are scheduled by a NCAA official. 1 wild card game. The wild card game is for independents and rival games that might not fit in with the other 10 games. Isn't it bad enough Georgia didn't play LSU or Kansas OU or Texas? It just makes the 12 team conferences get even more bids because they could play the bottom feeders and everyone would say how tough their conference is because of it. what they should do is stop letting teams avoid the other good teams in their conference. Like OU and Texas are pretty much good every year - a team from the Big XII north should have to play at least one of those teams in a season. Same with the Big Ten - nobody should be able to play the entire schedule without facing either Ohio State or Michigan. It drives me crazy that this loophole is ignored. If Wisconsin played OSU last year we would have found out more about those teams just like what happened this year. This stupid championship thing has just made more rematches instead of putting teams together that haven't played. You really don't know who's going to be good and if everyone played Michigan this year and not OSU it would have showed us what we needed to know. If Kansas beat OU during the regular season then they would have had a decent argument to be in the BCS.
  22. Yes, this is probably true. Plus grit. Homemade grit because no decent GM would use the instant kind.

  24. with hendry basically announcing that murton's not in the cubs' plans, i don't see how he could. I really think a big package trade could be done to improve this team. Too late, I just saw Murton on Woot.
