  1. Be careful for what you wish for, they may have been the lesser of 2 evils.
  2. I voted for White. They lost one game and it was the one that he was hurt.
  3. The only impact bat that I see that meets the Cubs requirements outside of Fukudome is Milton Bradley. Geoff Jenkins is probably next in line, but I think I'd rather see them grab Jose Guillen over Jenkins, but they won't do that. Free agent wise you're right. I think Hendry might pull an interesting trade for a left bat if Fukedome doesn't sign. I would have loved Bradley if he didn't have the knee problem until July or so. Jenkins/Burnitz they seem the same to me and I agree Gullen would be better.....did he have steroid problems? Or maybe they can get Jones from Detroit for Hill and Veal!
  4. I thought we'd have a little coaching thread here since it's going to be a pretty good slew of schools looking for one. I was thinking of Nebraska and I think that Coach Pasqualoni would make a nice match for them. He's been in Texas as a Linebacker coach for the Cowboys for 3 years and knows the area and he's an option background nose to the grindstone type coach who graduates his kids. He also does a very good job of getting them ready for the NFL.
  5. We might not like his game, but it's not fair to call Kaz a loser. Because he's clearly the winner here. The Cubs still lose, because now they probably move on to plan B from Kaz, which could only be worse. Plan B I fear you most of all. I really think Matsui would have worked out ok and I like that he takes a fair amount of pitches. If Hendry wakes up from his slumber and gets an impact bat in right I'll be satisfied with what the Cubs have.
  6. I was just thinking about Wrigley field and what would more important, to have a good fielding CF or a SS? The grass is always high so maybe range isn't that big of a thing for the SS so is it that important to have a good range guy there as much as it would be to have a guy that could catch everything in CF? I suppose it does depend on who is playing the OF corners as well. So, if the Cubs went for Pie in CF could they get a slugger for SS like Tejada and be able to hide him better? Or, get Funkudome in CF and a poor fielding/good hitting RF and get a very good fielding SS that has Theriot like numbers but makes more plays?
  7. Well good luck and enjoy the game! I'd like to see a well played competitive game and when UT loses, they really lose by a lot this year.
  8. I think he'll have a 290/340 line and hit 350/410 against the Cubs.
  9. David Faber is all over it. I'm just providing a service. You think everybody watches CNBC? I surfed over there during a commercial on "Law and Order." The acquital of a cop killer leads to the murder of a defense attorney. Hey, I've seen this one, and I don't watch much L&O anymore. Free ad time for Fred! That's interesting because I remember when Reagan ran for President and they would not show any of his movies due to free publicity (Or some other reason)
  10. Good, we'd like you to watch all the Cub/Brewer games then!
  11. "Gerut hit a Danny Amonte fastball 600 feet during the LL tryouts". Williamsport here they come.
  12. The Big 10 beat no one outside of the Big 10 that was any good, that's why. Nothing personal Sully, it's just business. it doesn't matter if they beat everyone outside of the b10, there'd still be people saying that the b10 was no good. i can't wait until the illini get to beat up on some sec or pac-10 school in a bowl game, it's going to be marvelous. no respect whatsoever. That's why I like the bowls because it forces some schools out of their protected zone. While allowing others to play within their own protected zone. True. This is why the BE is trying to hook up a deal with the new Giant Stadium.

  14. Have you ever said anything, and then regretted it? To clarify, IF getting Matsui has any positive influence on whether or not the Cubs can persuade Fukudome to join the team - the team would be better with Matsui. Simply because I think Fukudome is exactly what the Cubs need in the #2 spot in the lineup. But I also think that Soriano belongs in the middle of the lineup, and I think Ryan Theriot is a good player. And I think I'd have a chance with Scarlett Johanson if we were to wind up hanging out for some reason. We're both wrong. I thought she had that restraining order that said you couldn't be within 1000 feet?
  15. I'd say they are pretty close to even. Tell me why you think Illinois is better.
  16. Agreed. On a related note: Why don't the Cubs just move Soriano to RF where he belongs? I've become tired of the "wonder if he can play RF" posts when we have a guy in LF that would be the best RF option of anyone that might be available this offseason. You're absolutely right triple B. I keep thinking about Bruce Miles' article the morning after the Cubs signed Soriano. Bruce was convinced Soriano was brought in to play RF. From all accounts, he was going to play RF, until he volunteered for CF and then eventually moved to LF. They probably would have been much better off if they just started the season with a L/C/R of Murton, Jones, Soriano. I agree. I think they didn't do that because he already failed at CF and they didn't want him to have that negative baggage with him to right. Hopefully they'll be able to move him to right in 2008 unless they find a guy that can play it better.
  17. I don't understand either. They certainly can sell their average prospects better than anyone else in baseball. I'm worried they might get involved in the Fukedome sweepstakes if they do make this trade.
  18. At least we will find out this weekend if that's true.
  19. im pretty sure everyone says they shouldnt be there, but of the remaining one loss teams they should be one of the two in it. Ok I hadnt seen it I guess. Why should they be in over Ohio State? Ohio State has better wins than WV. And Ohio States loss is a better loss than WV. South Florida has a better computer ranking than Illinois and they beat WV at home while OSU lost at home, how is that better? WV beat Miss St 38-13 and Maryland 31-14 while having a better SOS than OSU. Please tell me who OSU beat out of conference?
  20. How was your Thanksgiving dinner? Did your mom/dad whip up something special?
  21. The Big 10 beat no one outside of the Big 10 that was any good, that's why. Nothing personal Sully, it's just business. can't beat anyone good if you don't play anyone good. blame the AD's for the scheduling, not the kids for playing (okay, blame Michigan for getting horse-whipped by a team with a Heisman candidate on it) I also blame too many of the teams depending on ND being good. They are always their main OOC team and this year it bit them in the butt. This is why you need each conference to play different BCS leagues and not focus on just one or 2. I consider ND a BCS league.

  23. OK, I'll bite. Santana is obviously much better than Hill. But I'd keep Hill and pass on Santana. Assuming you can sign Santana at all, he'll cost $16-17 mil/year and the prospects you gave up to obtain him. Over the same time period Hill and those prospects (those that pan out anyway) cost a small fraction of Santana's price. Is Santana plus Pie/Murton/Colvin (whichever low cost OF you an plug in) better than Hill plus whatever OF or SS bat you can buy for $16-17 mil? Examples: [Hill + Fukudome + $5 mil.] vs [santana + Murton] [HIll + Tejada + $3 mil. - Pie or Murton/Marshall/Marmol (whatever the package is to obtain Tejada)] vs. [santana + Pie/Murton] [Hill + Crawford + $6 mil - Pie/Marmol/Cedeno] vs. [santana + Colvin/Patterson] I'd be interested if the package was something revolving around 3 or 4 of the this group: Pie, Murton, Marmol, Marshall, Patterson, Gallagher, Veal, Donaldson, & Colvin. I agree that the Twins probably insist on Hill, and I'd pass. What are Hills 2007 stats compared to Santana's?
  24. Doesn't USC have like 85 first round picks on defense? so does ohio state. But USC pays better.
  25. I'm well beyond amazement and into infuriated now. I think I remember Lou saying that one things he wanted was a left handed bat he could leave in the middle of the line up against lefties. He seemed to think one the Cubs problems against lefties were to many right-handed batters in a row. The theory being it allows the pitcher to get to comfortable throwing to that many righties in row and get in a groove. Does anyone know if there is anything to Lou’s mad little theory. I suppose you could look up the history or all the winners or successful teams and see how it broke down for them.
