  1. Right now they are discussing a multi year contract for the multi purposed Macias. What worries me is who Hendry confides in....Hughes. This and Baker may make any good move difficult. These guys still live in the 70's.
  2. Please and thank you. Trade for Bradley too and we're top notch offensively. CF Bradley 2B Giles 1B Lee RF Giles 3B Ramirez C Barrett LF Murton SS Cedeno/Nomar? You ARE a Cub fan. :D Imagine if the Cubs had Cedeno on the bench and a solid left handed 1st/OF guy with that team? A Stairs type guy.
  3. I still think Huff has peaked and his numbers are going to continue to go south. Add to that he can't play defense well and I see it as a bad move. If it wasn't for the fact that the new owner is planning on spending more, I would have said that this is the offseason that Tampa Bay would shop Julio Lugo, who arguably might be a better bargain that Furcal. This is one area that Jim Hendry should keep close eyes and ears on. From all indications, Huff is lazy and a cancer in the clubhouse. Best to stay clear. I will. I hope Mr. Hendry does too!
  4. I compare the Cubs to Baltimores organization. Decent minors but screwed up beliefs at the MLB level.
  5. Furcal's speed will create more runs than Walker. Furcal's more likely to score from first on a double, and to score from second on a hard hit single or shallowly hit flyball to the outfield. That's just a few examples of how Furcal's speed puts more pressure on the defense. I think what matters is how Hendry builds this team. I just hope he has a plan and doesn't piecemeal it together.
  6. I really don't see Hendry being that interested in a player like Giles. If the Cubs commit to Murton my feeling is that they would want a 30 HR guy in the other corner and Giles isn't even on the Hendry radar.
  7. I agree....I said the same thing in another thread. At least Hendry has some nice options out there and how he goes about them is going to be a very interesting topic on this board.

  9. I say resign Perez and get Furcal and move him to second! This is why I think Hendry is going to go the trade route....I hope because if he resigns Perez with Baker still around it's going to be another long season. This could just be a negotiation tool used by Furcal too. He can't bring in the major market teams because they all already have SS's so he says this.
  10. That's why Hendry should get the other impact OF first.
  11. It just makes me sick to my stomach to be honest with you. You would think with all the hard work Hendry did in the minors that he would like to see some of his kids get a chance.
  12. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So you're ok with a Murton, Wilkerson and Floyd OF? That would be an improvement over what we had this year. Murton > Hollandsworth/Lawton/Dubois/Hairston Wilkerson > Patterson/Hairston/Macias Floyd > Burnitz Would it be enough? That would depend on how well our infield produces. As Raw said it would be ugly on D. Furcal Wilkerson Lee Floyd ARam Murton Barrett Cedeno Insert Manny for Floyd if he is the one aquired. Interesting lineup.

  14. A catcher does NOT drop his left knee to block the plate. It was very lazy footwork by Hernandez and he tagged way to high. You drop your right knee which he didn't do.
  15. I understand that. But my point is, unlike last year, when Dubois was never going to get a chance, I see Murton getting the job from the get go, no platoon. He'll lose it with a slump, of course. But when you said platoon, I thought you had something specific. If they end up acquiring a list of guys like Wilkerson, Nixon and Wilson, then I could see a platoon. My thoughts were about any player the quality of Holla and above would get a lot of ab's in left. Murton will get a chance but I just see him getting split/platooned a lot more than we would hope for. If the Cubs get those OF's I wouldn't think Murton would play more than 80 games at the most unless there is an injury to one of the corner OF's.
  16. What platoon is that? With Baker ther do you really believe that Murton would play 145 games? If Hendry has a warm bodied veteran OF on the 25 man roster he will get a lot of time in left....especially if he hits left handed. Well then I don't see how you can assume a platoon would hit 20 (not that HR totals matter). I don't really assume a platoon in LF. I have to wait to see who is brought in. I wouldn't assume Grieve or Hairston gets that job. I could see Dusty starting Murton for 150 games. Of course, the first sign of trouble could change that. If Murton struggles he's benchbound. I don't want to get into this on this thread as it's about the Nationals....let me just say I hope you and USS are right.
  17. I enjoy watching good baseball and this is the time when the best play. After watching the Cubs play this year it's nice to see some quality baseball.

  19. They'd still have to come up with that solid RF to make this deal worthwhile. Wilkerson would provide nice OBP, but he's not stud in that department. Along with Murton that would be a decent LF/CF, but unless you get a really productive RF, you still run the risk of having weak total OF production. I wouldn't go into 2006 expecting anything more than .280/.340/.430 from Murton, and you might be looking at about the same thing from Wilkerson. I agree. The Cubs would need a 30HR type guy out there even if they resign Nomar and Walker. If the Cubs go the Furcal + Cedeno route they will need a banger in RF bigtime. I do think that Wikerson could hit 20 HRs for the Cubs and the platoon in LF could come up with 20.
  20. That complicates things some. Crawford doesn't get expensive for them until 2009, so unless they just feel a need to move an OF, it might be more expensive player-wise to get him. Of course that 2006 figure would make him fit ideally into the Cubs budget for the next couple of years. I wouldn't have a problem dealing Dope and Harvey for Crawford, but not with that contract. No way I want to commit $30 million to the guy. Crawford is what I hoped Corey would turn into after last year. His lack of patience means he'll never be elite, but his speed helps him provide some decent SLG. Crawford swings at everything and the only thing he does better than Patterson is make contact. I do not want this guy at all. If you give this guy to Baker he'll try to hit the ball out of the pitchers hand.
  21. You're probably right. I think he is too unless the Cubs add a third pticher which might be Mitre.
  22. It seems like new ownership wants to go on a different direction. From what I have read here and other places LaMar sounded like one crazy dude. Who knows, maybe not playing the kids this year POed ownership as well. That's possible now that they booted Lou too. Or better yet, contract this team.
  23. Now that is very interesting. This might open things up a bit.
  24. When has Macias hit over .280? ...or .268 for that matter? That's it! Dusty is dyslexic. He can use his left or right hand?
  25. How many pitchers does NY want? They have Mussina, Johnson, Pavano, Wright, Wang and Small already. How many are out there? OK...that's how many.
