  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2175951 The Red Sox picked up Stanton from the Nationals to face the Yanks. I do not remember a trade that was this late in the season ever before.
  2. You don't think it's because younger players struggle with a good curve ball? I hope you're right CV!
  3. I agree that gambling has become too accepted and I'm assuming Bakers point is that not only does losing makes fans upset but it's the use of players and the stats of the games that also are making them lose it.
  4. The trade route is the best way to fix this team IMO. The Cubs have a lot of decent prospects and it's time to move some before the rule 5 draft.
  5. The best players Hendry has aquired are via trade so that's the route I look for him to go again. Pedro and Beltran would have been too much IMO and that's why I think the trade route is the way to go to pick up an impact a player like Lee, Ramirez and Nomar.
  6. Imagine if Strawberry turned to steroids instead of Coke. The numbers he could have posted.
  7. Has Hendry had the money to get the top guy?? Will the Trib even allow him?? Iirc he wasn't playing w/ much budget prior to 2002. They were paying Hundley, Gonzo, Alou & Sosa to name a few. He made a real nice pick up in Remlinger, and the Hundley for Grudz & Karros trade was pretty nice. Prior to 2003, they had a little more money w/ Hundley gone and he went out and got Hawkins and Maddux. I recall most people being pretty fired up. Last year he put a good amount of money into Nomar. Again I recall a lot of people being pretty fired up. I don't think they'll go after any FA who wants more than 4 years. The Trib's scared for some reason. However, I can see him making 3 or 4 signings for guys like Furcal and Millwood. Hopefully, it doesn't turn out like the year we got George Bell, Danny Jackson and Mike Morgan. We'll see CfiCA. It's his scouts job not to pick up clunkers like the free agents you mentioned even though Bell did bring in a ringer if I remember correctly. I thought the Nomar deal was a good deal for both parties at the time and I also liked the Remmy and Hawkins signings but as Tim mentioned before Hendry missed the boat to get creative and get the players that put you over the top not help you tread water.
  8. The reason I am not okay with a Furcal signing is because I know there is no possible way that would be the secondary move. That would be paraded around as the "put us over the top" move, filling leadoff and SS, and the OF would be filled by scraps. This is what I expect too if Furcal is signed.
  9. I agree he isn't creative and missed the boat and I will admit you're right about the rest if Hendry makes some good moves. He doesn't need to sign a "big name" free agent but aquire a quality bat...probably two and a quality lead off hitter by trades or free agent. If he does that this off season I'll be thrilled. I think Giles (SD) is a pipedream. I think we'll see an attempt to sign Furcal and then plan B with Lofton or a trade to aquire Pierre. I'm ok with Furcal if it isn't too much and ok with a Lofton type hitter to lead off. I am not ok with a Pierre/Crawford type hitter in that slot which I think Hendry/Baker may like. What Hendry aquires this off season will show us what kind of players he truely desires. Hendry has the ball in his court now and let's see what he does with it.
  10. I think Mr. Hendry is hiding in a camouflauge suit by the ivy right now.
  11. Has Hendry ever went out and got the most desired players available? I don't think he has as he has a sit back and watch things develop type of GM IMO. He watches and sees what other teams do and then goes after their excess or mistakes. I do not see him making a major trade early or signing any major free agents until the dust (no pun intended) settles and then he looks for a bargin. I also don't see him looking for gems on other teams that have been overlooked. He seems to like the players that had over hyped potential and haven't lived up to it yet. He will not take a chance on Giles and Furcel will be out of the price range...I hope.
  12. Huff, Crawford, Baldelli, or Gathright would be traded long before Gomes. Crawford scares the heck out of me. He is the perfect Baker leadoff hitter....swings at everything and is fast.
  13. By the time this all goes into effect the players will have another way to cheat. I hope these suspentions are far reaching and don't just say steroids. Also, the way MLB delayed Raffys sentence I see no way to trust them if another high profiled player got caught. It just seems too much like a Chicago Ballot Box to me.
  14. We played them tough last year, losing 28-20... in Texas. So we might have a shot. That said, I'm expecting us to get the crap kicked out of us. I'd like to see the goalposts come down one last time before I graduate though, so hopefully we can pull off the (enormous) upset! "This week [Vince] Young faces a possible trap game against Missouri with the annual showdown against Oklahoma looming on October 8." -SI.com "With the numbers Brad Smith has been putting up, the Horns can't afford to look past the Tigers toward next week's Red River Rivalry." -ESPN.com The defense has had two weeks to prepare mentally and physically, I expect them to be ready for this game. They are better than how they have played this season. Mizzou: 31 Texas: 28 Bring down the goalposts. The Missouri vs Texas game ought to be very interesting. This is going to be a good game to see if Missouri is ready for the next level.
  15. Speaking of Illinois...Syracuse has scheduled them for the 2006 season. We play Iowa and Illinois next year.
  16. I think Preston Wilson will be the Cubs CF if the Cubs also get Furcal to play SS and lead-off. By the way, 2 other players, who I wouldn't rule out as Hendry trade possibilities: Dave Roberts of San Diego and Craig Counsell of Arizona. Hoops I could see those being Hendry guys Hoops. I really feel as if I were reliving the late 70's again.
  17. Nomar. What do you expect from a healthy Nomar Tim? I see a 15 HR 280/320. I know you asked Tim, but don't you figure a healthy Nomar would be good for 25 HR? He has like 8 or 9 in the last month and a half alone... I have a feeling he will not hit that many but I'd be thrilled if he did....if he's a Cub that is. What do you see him doing number wise other than the 25HR's?
  18. Nomar. What do you expect from a healthy Nomar Tim? I see a 15 HR 280/320.
  19. I think Baker has a voodoo doll of Hendry and controls him by sticking toothpicks in it.
  20. What I want means nothing. It's what Hendry does that means something and this is what I see him doing.
  21. Let's go 2007! I weep for the future. I really see Mr. Hendry doing this while trading Murton in a package for Pierre.
  22. The Cubs 2006 OF will be: Preston Wilson LF Burnitz RF Pierre CF Hairston and Macias subs
  23. That was a storybook ending for the Cubs at Wrigley. Bases loaded and no outs and they still can't score. The season in a nutshell.
  24. I would love to see WVU win (just to piss of my friends) but VT has looked incredible. I was shocked at what they did to GT. VT is favored by 10.5 so I hope things continue the way they have been. I will definately be rooting for WVU. Hopefully VT is feeling a little too confident after last week. Even though WVU is very weak at QB don't be surprised to see them get some revenge for last year. I think VT winning big last week was just what WVU ordered.
