  1. I would rather have Lofton in CF than Perez at SS. It may come down to that. For the life of me, I can't see the connection between those two choices. If the Cubs are hitting Perez at the leadoff spot right now...Baker must think he can leadoff. By getting Lofton will ease the transition to Cedeno since he won't have to lead off thus the need to sign Perez won't be a great. You have to think like Baker Tim...that might be your problem. :D Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. Wait...I'm just getting started! Honestly...to beat the beast you must think like the beast. Baker is here to stay for some ungodly reason and you need a true type of leadoff hitter to displace Perez and if the Cubs do not guess who will be leading off? By gettting a leadoff hitter IMO, it's the only way Perez can not be signed. If the Cubs go with a young guy from the organization Baker will want Perez around in case that player fails in their first 10 AB's. And most importantantly....never argue with a stubburn Cub manager with a mancrush!

  3. I would rather have Lofton in CF than Perez at SS. It may come down to that.
  4. I'd like Wilkerson in the 2 slot myself. Do the Cubs have any future lead off guys? I really don't consider Pie one since he doesn't have that good of an Ave/OBP. This is one of the reasons I'd like to see Theriot play once in a blue moon.
  5. He's exactly the type of guy that Boston or NY could fight for. He could be great, he could miss half his starts. A pitching starved team with loads of cash should strongly consider taking the chance on him, especially when they already have a great offense. An offensively challenged team with lots of arms should probably spend their money elsewhere. It should be interesting watching them battle for him indeed. When does Brown come off the books for the Yanks...not that it matters? I still think Brown would have been a great closer.
  6. Now batting leadoff and playing CF for your 2006 Chicago Cubs - Brad Wilkerson! That would be nice Tim. Don't the Nationals need hitting though?
  7. Burnett is the kind of pickup that could make a GM look like a genius or an idiot.
  8. Thanks BbB. Now to look for the best fit for the Cubs and plug him into CF, SS or 2B.
  9. "I got ya dude...we need some speed on the top like a Pierre."
  10. I was wondering what players lead in pitches per AB. If it could be lumped with OBP that would be even better.
  11. I was thinking the same thing. Didn't Sosa have over 30 HR's and less than 100 RBI's?
  12. Maybe a ton is measured differently in Milwaukee?
  13. IMO the Cubs are in a different situation. I agree with Dal that I'd be upset if a team started a bunch of rookies and shut down the regulars but...the Cubs have had the opportunity to play the young guys due to injury and yet still do not. The every inning of every game played by Perez and Macias is what really bothers me. I'm curious if Raush being in the rotation is a way of trying to get him to come back next year. If the Cubs did not want him back why not let a kid start? Yeah, the 500 thing but I really think there is more to it then that.
  14. There's a post about this in the baseball discussion RTI.
  15. I'm for Lofton but it worries me he might do a Steve Finley.
  16. I don't expect McKeon to be back in Florida next year anyway so maybe there is a chance he could stay in Florida. Maybe Burnett can find a manager that is veteran friendly and is always positive about veterans even when they make countless mistakes.
  17. If the Cubs pick up all of Jones contract I wonder what the Braves would ask in return.
  18. I can't imagine Sammy in the NL unless it was with the Rockies. He has to DH from here on IMO....unless the team doesn't care about winning.
  19. It'll certainly cost more than Joe's deal. I wasn't trying to compare them dollar for dollar. If some other team is willing to go 3/24 on Dempster, I'd much rather go 3/30 on Wagner, or 3/27 on Ryan. How many teams are looking for a closer in 2006? This is going to be an interesting decision for Mr. Hendry and how he allocates the funds.
  20. i would consider 30/31 in saves with an era under 2.00 as being "dominant" myself. after what they went through with jobo & hawkins, i would hope the cubs will do everything they can to resign him - maybe 24mil/3 yrs? Remember, that what they "went through" with JoBo was a year of great pitching in the setup role, followed by a year of great pitching in the closer's role, then a meltdown. Dempster has been no more dominant than Joe was in their first years as closers. 3/24 is way too much at this point. I'd consider as much as 2/12, but Ryan has never shown any consistency in his career (aside from consistently missing the plate), so 3 years is a bit too long to guarantee that type of salary. As bad as Joe turned out to be, the financial hit was pretty low since Jim stayed relatively smart with that deal. Are you assuming that the Cubs are competing against themselves in bidding for Dempster because IMO it is going to be a lot more competitive trying to resign Dempster than reuping on an arb eligable JoBo.
  21. It might not even take that much. 2 productive OF bats and 1 great arm could make this team great. But it'll take a lot of work to get those guys. You'll have to get old school players for it to work with Baker in charge though. If the Cubs get some sluggers and sign Perez guess who will be leading off? You need a successful OBP speedy leadoff guy or Baker will make a great team an average one in one blink of a lineup card.
  22. How is Willis an underdog? He wears a cape. Is his arch enemy Simon Bar Sinister? Simon in a Braves uniform.
  23. Guaranteed in '06, then a team option for '07. If the option is picked up(it shouldn't be), then the same option appears for '08. Thank you. I'd be wary dealing with the Braves if I were Hendry.
  24. Why in earth would Baker say this to the press before talking to Patterson? I thought he was the great communicator?
  25. I didn't see how much longer Chippers contract is for? I'd rather have C.Beltran if this contract is anything longer than 3 years.
