  1. I didn't hear about Corey having problems like this before but if Baker or anyone from the Cubs have leaked out information about his medical condition without his permission I see that as a problem. I just hope this isn't another "Sammy left early" smear campain thing.
  2. I don't a reason for the Tigers to trade him unless they: -Don't think they'll compete in 2006 -Get knocked over by an overpayment Walkers fine and if the Cubs can do better I'm all for it.
  3. How is Willis an underdog? He wears a cape.
  4. I doubt it because Walker will have trashed the Cubs within a couple of weeks of his signing/trade.
  5. Unless the Braves figured out what is wrong with CPatt.
  6. Imagine what he'll say about the Cubs if he is traded in 2006? It should be interesting.
  7. I think the Cubs will go in this order: 1-Try to sign Furcel if too expensive 2-See if Nomar wants to play SS and sign him to an incentive heavy contract (I have a feeling Nomar is enjoying playing third so he may go to a team that will put him there) 3-Sign Perez Why? Because of he big push to put Cedeno at 2nd. For some strange reason the Cubs may want him there instead of SS.
  8. How are the Red Sox and Yankee pens? I think they might have an interest in Dempster too and that will put his price up IMO unless he is loyal which is what Cub fans have to hope for.
  9. I hope the Cubs don't replace Barrett with IRod. The 34 year old catcher with a .743 OPS vs. the 29 year old catcher with a .821 OPS. I second this post. I third it. If it happens this team got very old way to quickly for me.
  10. Unless Macias and Perez are coming back next year what's the point of playing them both everyday and every inning? I understand what you're saying about breaking that losing culture but not playing Theriot and seeing what he can do is not smart thinking IMO. Also, this is a nice opportunity to see if Murton can handle hitting 1 or 2. I think this foolish reasoning is a combo of things: -Baker doesn't want to be proved wrong -Bakers unhealthy love for veterans -500 is a goal and because of the bad start and injuries it means something (not to me but them obviously) I also don't inderstand why Fontant (sp) wasn't called up. You have two gimpy third baseman and he was already up this year so what's the problem with having him up once his season was over? I just do not understand this love for the boytoys, Macias especially, and if the Cubs really did want to reach 500 it would be a good idea to add depth as Baker could pinch hit with Grieve more often and keep rotating/pinchhitting for Macias, Theriot and Fontant.
  11. Being a NY fan I always hated the Mets and somewhat disliked the Sox. I really never disliked the Cards and when they had that blown call in 85 I was pretty mad. I was NL all the way unless Baltimore or Toronto were in the Series.
  12. What did he earn including incentives this year?
  13. I'd like to see Prior work on his changeup more often. I thought he was suppose to have a very good one but I don't remember seeing it that much this year.
  14. stabbing the first base ump and urinating on the mascot isn't illegal under baseball rules either...but you can't do either of those things. steroids are illegal (by america rule book standards), and they gave him an unfair advantage over other players. he probably would have been a HOFer w/o the steroids, but we can never know for sure. if he took them. Which hasn't been proven. Innocent until proven guilty He admitted taking them. He said he just didn't know they were steroids. He was told it was magic pixie dust. Was this part of the leaked testimony? I honestly don't remember. I believe it was. Except for the Pixiedust.

  16. "Well, we sit Barrett -- even though he's healthy -- along with Murton and Nomar and we play Patterson, Blanco, Hairston and Macias!" Hairston - LF Perez - SS Lee - 1B Burnitz - RF Walker - 2B Macias - 3B Patterson - CF Blanco - C I think Baker has already used that lineup. :x
  17. With that headline I thought he signed JC as his agent.
  18. "So....how can we torture Cub fans now? Putting Perez at the leadoff spot was great so what can we do to top that...any ideas?"
  19. He was a great hitter before the spike in numbers. They helped him, there's no doubt. But, he had the best bat speed before the spike in numbers, similar to Griffey. I'm not going to ignore what he's done. He went from a great hitter to the greatest hitter, he was still a great hitter. i agree...but i'm not willing to give a cheater the benefit of the doubt when trying to figure out his non-roid numbers. instead of trying to speculate as to what day he started taking steroids and judge his career by saying 'well, what did he do before steroids?' or 'just how many homeruns did steroids add to his career total?' i just consider him to be a cheater. I agree and I was just looking to see if the spike were artificially done but it doesn't matter as he is a cheater and knew exactly what he was doing.
  20. He reminds me of George Allen during his Redskin days.
  21. OK...when was Bonds introduced to Conte? Because I do not remember him hitting 40 or more HR's until he met this guy.
  22. Hendry will wait for the fallout of all the trades and free agent signings and then do something. If LA/Mets/Boston end up with too many OF's or whatever then and only then will Hendry look into a deal. Alou and Maddux were signed after every other team picked over all he players they wanted. Lee was aquired only after the O's and Marlins deal fell apart. He just looks at the scraps and sees what he likes and if likes the player he'll try to make a deal.
  23. Is Baker good for a young players mental makeup? I don't think he is. The "I put him in a position to succeed" thing can only go so far. If the player starts to accept failure and thinks that Baker is always right...IMO his confidence could be shot. I want players that think they can hit all the pitchers and a manager that has the confidence in him to do so. Baker has no problem with the Boytoys doing that but seems to have issues with a young player going through the same kind of slump. It just seems to me Baker should be more supportive to a young player but for some strange reason he does quite the oposite. I'm hoping among hope that what Baker says to the press isn't the same things he tells a young player. Baker is a thinskinnedegotisticalcoward. I just can not see how a young player could respect someone that always defers the blame to the kid but accepts the praise for anything a young player does well.
  24. I just can not understand why Theriot can not start one game against the Brewers or any team that is out of playoff contention. Baker will find any excuse to play his boy toy and it's getting to the point where it seems like he could care less about this team.
  25. What UK said and if you already hit a ball as well as Bonds it just makes it go farther.
