  1. I'm thrilled that he is finally on an exercise program. It reminds me of when Sisco finally had the light turn on and I hope Guzman continues doing the exercises.
  2. He's having a rough fall, no? I hope the move to AA doesn't bog him down like it did with his brother. I'd wish the Cubs would be more realistic with these guys and let them progress from level to level. I don't see the point in pushing guys to AA as quickly as possible. 4 for 18 so far with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts after his 8th inning leadoff single. Coats PHs and singles on the first pitch. How hard is he hitting the ball? Macias hard or Lee hard?
  3. Now if the Red Sox were still playing it would be jimmies.
  4. The 2006 theme: "Hook, Line and Sinker"
  5. Yeah, but when would those 60 runs have scored? Spread out over the season or bunched over 10 -15 games? I agree with you that I believe we make the playoffs if everyone had been healthy. Heck, I still think we would've made the playoffs had Wood and Prior been healthy even without Nomar and ARam. I think people can talk about lineups or whatever but the pitching cost us more games than the lineups... even as bad as the lineups were. I think it was a combination of things. Let's also add the mismanagement of the pen to add runs to the opposition. Hendry has to make sure he has a stronger bench if he wants to keep ARam and Nomar around and have more depth at starting pitching with Wood and whoever will be hurt. The Cubs have to be 7 deep at the starter level to cover themselves and why that can't be covered at the AAA and AA levels is beyond me.
  6. If we signed Giles, that would be a real test of Tim's new server. The place would go nuts. Hmm...Macias or Perez being re-signed or Giles I wonder which would light up the new server more? I'd love to see Hendry pull a major OF trade off while everyone else is talking to the free agents.
  7. You don't think Allison has a chance to battle back? Harvey is definitely way behind. :( I'm curious if he would be that far beind if he were in another organization. To be fair, the knee set him back by a year. True. I would like to see him play some time....along with the other youngsters.

  9. Marquee is not an official designation. To me, it denotes a game of great interest. Personally, if an undefeated Big Ten team is playing at the previous year's champion this far into the season, I call it interesting. I'll be watching, and my bet is millions of others will be as well. Not everybody has to love the game to make it marquee. I probably won't watch much of FLA/LSU, but I won't argue that it's a marquee matchup. If the PSU/UM game isn't good enough for you, then don't watch it. Don't poop on other people's fun. Frankly, I'm just hoping one of PSU/UM or ND/USC ends up interesting. I'm not trying to dismiss the game but just point out it is more of a Midwest game than national. People speak of eastcoast bias and there is but IMO this is a Midwestern thing not national. For selfish reasons I want at least 3 teams to end up being undefeated...USC/UCLA, Texas, Penn State and Florida St/VTech. Maybe this will cause a playoff.
  10. I like the fact that Hendry can concentrate on other Cub weaknesses now instead of the closer thing too over the off season. I understand he can multi-task but having Dempster signed gives him a better idea on how he can allocate his money.
  11. "Too old....too far." "Homeward Bound" I think it's time to have some of these young guns step up and pitch well out of the pen. Granted, Baker manages a pen as well as the government manages our money, but I think some of these guys have got to step up.
  12. How many times do I have to say this? Nobody is saying Michigan is marquee. They are saying the game is a marquee matchup. Nobody is claiming it is THE marquee matchup either, just one of the few. I think you should say it about 500 times. IMO it's not a marque matchup. If you're a Big 10 fan it probably is but it isn't for me. then don't watch. Save your TV time for the 1-47 Orange They are 1-4 let's not exaggerate. You and Goony seem to want to bring in my team for some reason and I never said that a Syracuse or even a Big East game should be shown. Again, this wasn't a personal attack but a question about why this game would be considered marque.
  13. Rich Aurilia "backing up" Ronnie Cedeno. ...after all the good free agents are signed, because once again Hendry sits back and "waits for the dust to settle" before making any mobes and "backing up" = "getting most of the starts" because Dusty wants to "pick his spots" when he uses Cedeno. "That's our Dusty!"

  15. You might be the next Bill James. "Rockets Ruler, How I measure success"
  16. Really? How do you figure something like that out?
  17. Chances for glory? What glory do they get for being on a list of marquee matchups this weekend in college football? Sorry it's not a Big East matchup. Perhaps Rutgers/Syracuse deserves more glory. It's an undefeated Big Ten team, facing the previous year's conference champion. That's a marquee matchup. A team that has beaten the ever so tough No. Illinois and E. Michigan and lost to about everyone else is marque? I don't think so. While we are talking about the wonderful Big 10/11 let me know how many top 25 teams they have beaten out of conference?
  18. That's absurd. It'll draw tons of eyeballs, that makes it a marquee matchup. Marquee doesn't mean two top 10 teams. It doesn't mean two great teams. It means a very interesting matchup that lots of people will want to see, in other words, put those names on the marquee and the crowds will follow. I can't believe you're making that big of a deal of this. I'm not a fan of either team but I can acknowledge that it deserves attention. Whenever an undefeated Big Ten leader is playing against a team that stands a chance at winning, it's worthy of attention. Penn State is not dominate and can lose to about any team in the Big Ten so I don't see why this game is any different. It's just giving a big name school more chances for glory.
  19. How many impact minor leaguers does a team need per year? To me depth is nice but I want guys that will be impact players not just fillers like the Cubs seem to bring up. I'll take a Pujols every 3 years over the mediocre postion players the Cubs bring up.
  20. They would be 4-3, with two wins vs top 12 teams. If PSU looks bad, UM wins and MSU loses, I wouldn't assume they will get back in the rankings. There are 6-7 other teams ahead of them in the "others receiving votes" category. And they will jump over everyone of them. The good ole boys continue to get all the chances. So what if they go up to 22? It doesn't really do them any good in the long haul. It's not like they have a chance for a BCS game. Regardless, the Big Ten lead is on the line with two traditionally strong teams playing, one of which is undefeated and a dark horse national championship contender, tell me again why this shouldn't be considered a marquee game. Simple. One team is 3-3 and as you said even if they are #22 they are not going anywhere. 3 losses at this stage of the season is way too many for a college football team. A good game, sure but not a marque game.
  21. What about Pie, Williams and Wood for ARod?
  22. They would be 4-3, with two wins vs top 12 teams. If PSU looks bad, UM wins and MSU loses, I wouldn't assume they will get back in the rankings. 23. He needs to be watched closely. He should never be used for more than an inning. He's very far from elite, and not even great. But if you use him right, you can get your money's worth and then some. He is high maintinance high reward and you're right a good pitching coach will know how to handle him because he needs the guidance. When he is flustered he changes into another pitcher. And great....absolutely not.
  24. I don't think you're breaking any news here. They are out of the top 25. Not many think they are elite. But that doesn't mean this weekend's game isn't a marquee matchup. So a Michigan 2-7 would still make it a marque matchup? I understand they have a big name and all but a 2-3 team in college football is not marque in any way. And....if Michigan does win since they have a big name they will be back in the top 25 with a 3-3 record.
  25. I am a Michigan fan but how many games do they have to lose before they are considered average? 7...8? They are by far not elite.
