    No defense in walks. Missals ain't good either but if you can't even throw a strike, you have problems. We're not really arguing whether giving up a HR is better than walking someone, are we? No. I'm talking about throwing strikes vs balls.

    I think his point is by walking batters you have no defense but at least throwing strikes you have one.

    Can't have three lefties in the rotation, dude. Maybe they'll try to fix Hill by making him throw with his right hand and it will turn out that he's even better as a righty. Played with a guy in HS who could throw 90+ either hand for strikes. He'd get tired, switch gloves. True story. I could throw 90 in HS. 60 right handed 30 left. Isn't there a pitcher in the minors right now that does that? Or is that an independent league? I think there is but I can't think of his name. It's pretty cool to see.

    He replaced Theriot, Cedeno moved to SS. Why was Theriot replaced? Double switch strategy. That and Cedeno is better than Theriot So the only guy in the lineup who's gotten a hit today is taken out? Just trying to make the others feel good. What if he hits for a cycle? Then the other players would feel bad about themselves and we can't have that.

    Lieber is fine as a long relief guy but this is not acceptable. If a lefty starts like Hill/Marshall/Lilly he can relieve in the 3rd or 4th and face more righty's. When they stack lefty's against him, yikes.

    At the very worst they'll get to the pen earlier and get rid of a good pitcher Unless they have a manager that played in the early 70's and thinks a pitcher should go the distance no matter how old he is.

    I agree with Lieber and been saying this about Hill from the beginning. He has to attack and have confidence in himself and when he nibbles he walks guys and gets ripped.

    It may have something to do with the type of pitcher the Cubs are facing or his leg doesn't feel well.

    your very own Chicago Cubs have 2 or 3 guys who could have made that throw to 3rd. he's got a good arm, but he's not on his own level Lol, Bob. Rick's arm is elite and I would be surprised if even Fukudome could outdo him. I worded that poorly I think. I won't deny his arm, but to get all moist over that throw to 3rd is a bit ridiculous. there are others in baseball with extremely accurate and strong arms and could also make that play. what was lost in that play is how idiotic it can be to tag from 2nd on a flyball to CF. maybe he's "better" than Fukudome, maybe not, but I do not think he's on his own level Yeah he isn't the Barry Bonds of throwing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had one of the top few arms in the league. Most guys who can throw 98 are guys who don't quit pitching. True...unless they are hitting the top of the backstop every third pitch! I think he has a great arm and not thinking when he throws now is only going to help him.

    That scares, the you know, out of me. Lou has to stop wasting hitters and the relievers have to improve. I do not like the idea of a 13 pitcher roster but with the roster they have he shouldn't have to pinch hit that often, other than the pitchers and not Z or Marquis.

    I don't think so. Baseball is a team game unless the pitcher strikes out 27 guys and gives up no hits. If a player makes an error in the field (non pitcher) and the next guy comes up and hits a tater why should the pitcher bear the brunt? right, it's a team game, and the team lost because Dempster coughed up a 2 mile bomb to Dunn. but according to his ERA, he was totally awesome, so we get to win the game, right? Dempster was totally awesome last night. He gave up 2 bombs, that's it. Was he behind in the count when they hit the HR's?

    I don't know what's up with this. Maybe partly Johnson's hot start and Pie's slow one but hopefully Lou will figure it out that Pie has a left bat and can play the game.

    1-17 not lost by me, but yet we cant get Cedeno in the lineup with our starting 3rd baseman out. I mentioned DeRo's struggles in a game thread the other day, & someone had the gall to be sarcastic about it.. He gets a pass...more so than Theriot if he went 1-17.
