  1. And trade him for a middle reliever 2.0 WHIP version! I hear Andy Pratt's available. It's too bad he couldn't hit like Ankiel. He threw like him though.
  2. This would seem to be one huge step for Cuban. Does anyone know whether this "approval" indicates that Cuban will no longer have to worry about getting a majority of the owners to let him in? http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080513&content_id=2691506&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Holy cow...how much money does Cuban have?

  4. Oh boy, let's trade Hill and Pie for Harden! Nothing like a horrifically injury-prone pitcher to help get this team over the hump! So it could get worse? The optimist in me is thinking this is just to get Pie's groove on and the Cub fan in me is looking at this as Armageden(sp).
  5. There are three things wrong about this move that makes this among the worst possible players to acquire: -Hated and villified player who is most known for being fan favorite on arch rival -Once great player with rediculously declining skills (both offensively and defensively), also known to be a bad clubhouse person -Replacing the team's perennial top prospect before top prospect gets a consistent chance to play and prove himself at this level. Meanwhile, the offense isn't broke. We lead all of baseball in runs score, and while its unlikely that it will stay that way all year, its certainly not worth replacing an above average defensive CF with an improving bat with a below average CF with a declining bat. Everything about this move is wrong. There is no silver lining or really any grey area at all in this move, unless Edmonds reverts to 2005 form offensively. But even then, he's still hated and he's still replacing our top prospect. Unless...I cringe as I write this....the Cubs are signing Edmonds and trading Pie for pitching. And I know you're half kidding....but what pitcher could we possibly get for Pie at this point. He can't even start over a .650 OPS CF with worse defensive skills. If we were FORCED to move Pie to AAA, I would have rather given up players to get Crisp, who can at least play fantastic defense, then payed almost nothing for Edmonds. I would assume it would be Pie and some young pitchers. Imo, they're going to wait and see how things develop regarding Edmonds with the Cubs and Pie in Iowa.

  7. Seeing Edmonds take the field in Cubbie blue might make me throw up in my mouth. Wait until you see the hot new red shoes he bought to match his Cub uniform.
  8. I'm sure he always was. Yeah but he had a lot of RBI that one year, dude can mash it.
  9. I'm hoping he visits Roger and gets a years supply of the good stuff.
  10. That's what I'm counting on Soul. It's just a brilliant motivational technique for Pie. He'll go 3-for-3 with two walks tonight, and this will all go away. Right? That's gold Hendry, pure gold!
  11. Various newspaper and radio sources believe it to be a done deal. Awesome! Wait, it's time for my medicine....I'll be right back.
  12. It's too bad Dusty is gone because that would have made things perfect. Come on guys in Chicago, what's the word on the street for this really being true?
  13. Bat confidence? Yeah, it's on the utility belt next to the Bat rope Holy diving center fielder, the Cubs are in trouble. I say Iowa is going to be really good if the Cubs can send down Gally too.
  14. She can't take it any longer captain!
  15. Where else are they going to hit him? This is EXACTLY what will happen. He is going to hit 5th. In my dream world....Fuku is moved to 2nd and Edmonds 5th. Eddy goes 0-34 gets released and everyone moves up one behind Ramirez in the lineup and Pie comes back and of course Fuku stays at 2. Oh yeah, Cubs win a lot of those games.
  16. You need a lefty bat to protect Ramirez. :pig:
  17. Edmonds is the missing piece of the puzzle. He's won wherever he has played except for when he was losing there. Dudes a gamer and will give up his body to win, you have to appreciate that. In all honesty....I'd rather sign Bonds and throw him in left and Fuku to CF and Soriano to right. If you're going to go after a vet, at least get one that is productive in some area of the game.
  18. I would love to see if there has been a difference on how umps are calling his pitches. I've always wondered if some pitchers get the calls over others on the exact same pitch. I think being around the plate the whole time will help but if you have a tossed around vet or rookie and Maddux, if there is any proof who gets the calls.
  19. You act as if this team can't win with Felix. That's nonsense. The Cubs offense has been perfectly fine while getting nothing from CF against RHP. Clearly they can succeed with Pie in CF against RHP. Edmonds doesn't even offer an upgrade in that regard. Early in a season when you are scoring lots of runs and winning lots of games is the absolute easiest time to try and let a kid develop on a contender. This isn't low risk. The risk is that Edmonds hits in the 5th spot, keeps sucking, but keeps playing because the Cubs are absolute failures at realizing when a veteran is done. Jason Kendall kept blowing chunks for months while Soto was destroying the ball, yet the Cubs did nothing. This move could easily cost a game, not to mention delays Pie's development and reduce his trade value. There's no rational support for this move, only nonsensical "proven veteran" conventional wisdom BS. Let's not forget what Pie brings defensively compared to Edmonds. It almost seems to me that the Cubs want a 5 hitter more than anything.
  20. What! You can't commend that type of behavior. Bad boy. No dinner for you. Exactly. Don't set precedent for the rest of us. You know what Abe's wife has? A man for a husband.
  21. Just imagine if the O's were dumb enough to sign a 38 year old has been CF?
  22. So... since the players have covered for Lou's mistakes, he's excused for all of them? its easy to "arm chair" manage.....lous record this year, and over his career show that he knows what he is doing...im not trying to be mean, but hey, a win is a win, and if the cubs are in first, to me, im happy about it.....thats all im saying..... How do you feel about the potential signing of Edmonds? How will you feel about our bullpen when Marmol's arm falls off in August from overuse in unnecessary situations? How do you like Reed Johnson's .250 avg. against righties when we have a young player with a history of needing a couple of months to adjust at each new level who happens to hit from the left side of the plate sitting on the bench on a regular basis? How do you like the use/non-use of Ronny Cedeno, who has shown a better approach at the plate, has been tearing the cover off the ball, and is twice the defensive player Fontenot is? Just because a result turns out well doesn't mean the method that got you there is right. Is it possible Lou is using Cedeno is situations he can have success in? I agree about the Johnson part but Lou seems damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
