  1. Ummm....I think you meant Beckett. Though John Burkett did pitch for Boston in 2002-2003. And was a deadline deal in 1996, but not for the Red Sox. That year, he went from the Marlins to the Rangers. Darn...I always get those two mixed up! I'd be curious how much the Rockies would ask for those two. And rchap24...I suppose I'd try to include Johnson in the deal or find a way to move him, or release Edmonds....or, go to 12 pitchers.
  2. This is exactly correct. It doesn't make much romance for the sports writers but it is exactly correct. No it's not. The manager first of all doesn't have to keep him in the game but showing a little mental toughness helps a pitcher when he is struggling. I don't want him out there if he is gassed or feeling sore but this isn't always a "hey I pitched my 6 I've done my job" type of thing. It's also when he's getting hit in the 2nd and you need him out there to help save your bullpen a couple more innings of work. It's fine for guys to be laid back but it's also a team game and sometimes you have to take some lumps in order to help your teammates. That's nonsense. Saturday Randy Johnson, arguably one of the best pitchers all time, went out to the mound after batting and during warm ups decided he'd done enough and walked off the mound. Do you have any more details?

  4. I'd like to see the Cubs work out a blockbuster with the Rockies and get Holiday and Fuentes, kind of what Boston did to get Burkett and Lowell. I'd send Marmol, Cedeno and 3 to 4 of the top prospects (Pie/Vitters)...if the Rockies like them and it would match up.
  5. We'll have Chico buy the team and get Walter M to manage them.
  6. I was coming here to post that this was probably the case. Hurdle has paid attention to the player voting very, very closely when replacing people in the starting lineup/roster. That's the same reason that was given for Holliday being given the starting nod, for example. Maybe Lou can throw Holliday an extra Cub uniform and sneak him onto the team after the game.
  7. I just read that Puxatony Phil said that Hill saw his shadow and won't be out for another 6 weeks.
  8. Does anyone know what stuff Harden has been saying about being traded to Chicago? I'm just curious on how he felt about pitching at Wrigley as well.
  9. Hey Brett, you know how you could really stick it to the Packers?......DA Bears :D If that happen, there would be mass-suicide alerts in Wisconsin. First Edmonds then Favre? Who would the Bulls or Hawks sign to beat that?
  10. That sounds logical. I'd like to see Wuertz get 3 games in a week to get a better feel again before he comes up and I think he'll be fine down there...do well and be in a good groove when he's called up. It sounds logical until you remember the AAA all star game is wednesday, so he's not going to get a chance for regular work anytime soon. Yeah but he can rest up think about what he did wrong while he sits in the corner. What do you think he's been doing in the Cubs bullpen the last couple of weeks? Too much chatting with the fans. A little solitude will help him become one with the game, makes a man think about life and the direction it's heading.

  12. They actually had cream in them when they first came out, now it's God only knows in there. The worst cookie to eat in public due to the black teeth/breath.

  14. So the Cubs should tell Bud this....if you don't let Cuban have a fair chance to own this team, we're signing Bonds.
  15. Wasn't he proven to be a steroid user?
  16. Jordan with 16 E's already? Throwing or fielding raisin? His hitting looks to be pretty nice though.
  17. He's Thom's dad, of course. The guy the Cubs skipped over for Len, correct?
  18. Really? Miller is definitely better defensively but Barrett was better by a wide margin offensively while here and was able to play more regularly. Pitching staff was far better with Miller behind the plate. Once again, offense gets the glory but defense wins the game. You've just opened Pandora's box RIC...get ready to defend that post!
  19. Now batting for San Quentin....Barry Bonds.
  20. He sounds like a Jones type player that can play 3rd too, that bothers me a little. If Fukudome could slide to CF and this guy could play D it might be worth a flyer if it got rid of Marquis as well. It would add insurance if ARam broke down too and could push Fontenot down to Iowa and make DeRo the second baseman with Cedeno the middle backup.
  21. Thanks TT. Let's hope the new bullpen help helps ease that.
  22. +1. I have never understood why people hate Corey so much. IMO it was because he was overhyped and didn't live up to it. Plus, he was one of the few everyday guys that had potential to be something decent and fans let him feel the brunt of their frustration when he didn't live up to it. He didn't really seem lazy, he was just overhyped. It happens. More importantly, he was traded 3 years ago and we are having an amazing year, booing Corey is just extremely petty. I didn't say he was lazy. I liked and always defended him and I agree the booing of Patterson is pretty lame.
  23. Judging from last night's game thread, one would have thought we still had Baker on this team. I hope stuff like this conservative approach puts that hyperbolic crap to rest, but it's doubtful. Why badger? Because it irritates me, and I'm on a message board forum that I'm allowed to express my irritation as long as I don't personally attack anyone? Sorry, I still don't know what you're talking about. Were you upset about something Lou did?
