  1. That's how I looked at it, and although I'm not thrilled about it I do understand at least. Plus I think having him go in the 9th inning for the mental aspect of it might also be a reason why he was in. I have to believe Lou has a plan for him and is trying to develop him to fit it.
  2. If Fontenot can stay hot the rest of the season, I could see him getting the full tim 2B job next year and moving DeRosa back to the super sub role, or even making him a decent trade chip for the offseason. The cajun connection works well together, and even seem to feed off each other offensively. Remember Font was a 1st round pick, so the O's must have seen something in him. He seems to be a streaky hitter and I'm thrilled w/the Fontenot and DeRosa 2nd base platoon this year.
  3. Griffey should be fined. Brantley should announce for Monster Truck events only. Baker has no control over his team and never has. How Brantley and Baker have ever been able to get jobs doing what they do is beyond me.
  4. Come on, man. You can't dangle details like that in front of us and then not expect us to want to know them. What are your past experiences with him? Sorry but cannot wait to see how THIS plays out.... I thought you might like that one.
  5. The minor league pitcher the Braves got must be pretty good, because The D-Backs offer seems a lot better on paper. I remember reading posts from here that Ohman was kind of a mega jerk. It might have been Bruce and I'm pretty sure it was somebody who either covered or worked w/the Cubs.
  6. Did he say hit all pitches the other way or did he say to take the outside pitches the other way? I really doubt he told them not to drive the ball.
  7. The thing about ND is the frustration of them not joining the Big 10 and that is what I meant, not sticking it up there wazoo. Boeheim is not really for this and that is a tough sell for us. Plus, with Tranglouse (sp) leaving things are going to change for good or bad and from what I hear Syracuse wants more stability.
  8. They used to use horse urine as a cure for pink eye so maybe his great great grand daddy was a vet/Dr.
  9. I can't say anything bad about the big 10 because I just heard a rumor we might be going there. seriously? Just from some boosters with some knowledge about the school...a heck of a lot more than I have. The academic and sports seem to match up well and this might also be a go to heck (from Big 10 people) to ND from what I've heard.

  11. When Alou retires I can see him doing an informercial with the guy that sells Oxyclean selling his magic formula.
  12. Just had a funny feeling the Sox would try to make a big bang in the market and Manny would be a heck of a bang. I suppose unless they traded Dye for Manny they wouldn't make a deal for him.
  13. Really, you wouldn't be surprised if they rubbed his finger against a rough surface or burnt it so that they could create the grand illusion that Kerry Wood is in fact still alive? Paul Giamotti is going to play Wood and we'll all be fooled. Once he fools Mrs. Wood, the move will be made and Kerry will be shipped out to Old man Jobes farm where he can live and run for the rest of his life.
  14. Considering they have two of the best corner OFs in the league (at least for this year) in Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye, I'd have to say no. Do they have a good DH too nilo? I wonder since Manny wants to leave if he'd accept being just a DH as well.
  15. I would because it would allow us out from Soriano's contract and Manny will be a FA at the end of the year. We'd have our bat for the stretch and then sign Dunn in the offseason. :D Topping the worst OF defensively of Manny and Soriano....adding Dunn! Imagine that of, yikes! I wonder what type of money Dunn is going to get. Well, under my scenario Dunn would play LF, Fukudome in RF, and a yet to be determined player in CF. I know vance but the thought of it made me want to buy season tickets just for the entertainment value in the OF alone! Imagine how fun it would be to watch Dunn launch balls out of Wrigley that might land on the roof tops across the street. It would be nice. So you'd basically trade Dunn for Soriano?
  16. When I saw him at Mississippi his fastball didn't have the movement that it had in his two appearances at Wrigley. Thanks to all for the info. I always compared him to the relief pitcher (L something) the Cubs got from the Tigers a couple of years ago. The only relief pitcher I can recall we've gotten from the Tigers recently was Roberto Novoa. That's the guy. Sorry bd811, wrong letter.

  18. I think the college he attended doesn't help his general public perception any, either. If, for example, he had been a star wideout at, say, Northwestern, and the Cubs signed him up, there'd be a lot lower risk of the public turning on him. Has there ever been a star wideout from Northwestern? Yeah, the ND thing is going to cause him to get a lot more attention good and bad.
  19. and Ronny Cedeno can be just as good as Albert Pujols Ha! Well...look at their stats, compare and then look at the 2 pitchers and I'll bet you a 12 pack Eyre to Fuentes compares a heck of a lot more than that. I'm just saying it is by far not the worst comparison ever. I don't think it's the worst comparison ever, but it's a terrible comparison I haven't seen the numbers that back that up and Eyre has been a decent pitcher in the past, before his injuries. http://www.baseball-reference.com/e/eyresc01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/f/fuentbr01.shtml Yeah, Fuentes is a lot better! Eyre certainly did cash in his contract year.
  20. See, now this is written in just such a way where I can't tell whether you are being serious or poking fun with a classic "insider" response. :) I was serious. But I couldn't tell if he was serious or not. Just don't call him Shirley. I would imagine they'd feel this way in order to keep the price up on him. Hey, we don't want to move him so you have to overpay if you really want him.
  21. Well, he did figure out how to strike people out in the past month or so. That said, the KRod/Joba comparisons are extremely premature. I just hope this doesn't set up another CPatt type of thing. All these high hopes and he turns out to be average and ends up being another whipping boy because he isn't a lights out reliever.
