  1. Judging from last night's game thread, one would have thought we still had Baker on this team. I hope stuff like this conservative approach puts that hyperbolic crap to rest, but it's doubtful. Why badger?
  2. So you'll be able to watch the Orange kick your Wildcats butts all over the field now? There are three things wrong with that statement. Two of them are the fact that I have season tickets and that I've had the BTN since last year thanks to DirecTV. I'll let you figure out what the third one is. What's going on with that team, anyways? Didn't they just have another starter suspended for academics? 2 I believe and our best reciever but he's going to a CC to get them up. Kids here actually have to go to school and not break the law, much like yours.
  3. Thank God Baker isn't in charge of this team or he'd ruin Harden in a month. Gotta get the dude pitchin into the 9th to work out the kinks.

  5. I hate that stupid 1 and done rule with a passion. I'm glad this kid is pushing the envolope and going over seas. If he does well there, more may do it. I'll bet he doesn't make as much money as Mayo did at USC though.
  6. Schilling always look to fill his uni a lot more than Prior did to me. 6'1" isn't a bad size if it's really his size. He could be another Beasley for all we know!
  7. The biggest difference is size. Schilling's a big ole' sombitch. Harden's kind of tiny. Curt has the type of pitcher's body that many believe is ideal for withstanding big innings. He also started his major league career as a reliever before being thrown into back-to-back 200+ inning seasons in his mid 20's, which may have contributed to his late 20's health issues. Harden has been a starter throughout his career, but health has kept him from approaching the workload that Schilling had at this age. He may go on to have the type of career Schilling had, but I don't think there's much similarity between the two. How big is Harden? Harden reminds me of Oswalt for some reason.
  8. This bears quoting for it's truthiness. Not just a moron, but a moron with an axe to grind. Dangerous combination. As much as I find Stone a "Cub Basher" (as of late), I think he really has it out for Hendry. He rarely gives the guy credit for anything but continues to point out bad contracts (actual or presumed), bad trades and general ineptness. I would love for Stone to become a GM/Manager so he could be second-guessed as much as he does the second-guessing. No micrphone to hide behind. I wish he would become the GM for the White Sox.
  9. Because it's a personal thing for me and that shouldn't determine what's good for the board. The Z thread was different because it was started by a Card troll and Budhouse felt that Wood would break down or not be able to be a good closer, which he has been wrong so far, and imo that's different. BudHouse exhibits pretty trollish behavior himself. Does he ever even post besides when Wood blows a save? (To his "credit," I don't think he made an appearance Saturday) He just seems like a guy who dislikes Wood big time to me. We have a lot of posters that don't like some players, granted mostly Marquis, for some reason or an other.
  10. Thanks for the info DDS. I wonder what some of the other GM's are like when it comes to deals? I was listening to Mike and Mike and Phillips was on and he said Bowden would leave a message at 2AM saying he had a deal that would help Phillips win the whole shabang but the deal always seem to help Bowden after Phillips returned his call.
  11. I'd be game for that as well. Afterall, Blalock on the DL is still better than Marquis in the rotation. True! He's on the DL, what for BbB? Blalock on the DL is a shocker to you? Wrist surgery this time. Yikes...that ain't good.

  13. Maybe he's just trying his best to create a rivalry between the Cubs/Reds? The Reds play on the field isn't conducive to one so maybe he thought he'd fire off some stupid lame comments to get one going and since they're losing yet once again he's just trying in the only way he knows how, ignorance.

  15. I wouldn't be surprised if Beane is actively shopping Emil Brown to make room for Murton. I'm sure he's looking into options to make the A's better, does Emil have any trade value? I wonder if the Cards would go after him.
  16. The optimism surrounding Prior was natural as a result of positive reports (which turned out to be false/wrong) from bloggers last year early in spring training. Once he actually went out on the mound throwing in the mid 80s, you would've been hard pressed to find too many posters optimistic about Prior in 2007. The desire to keep Prior around last offseason was based on the thought that we should take a flier on him in case he ever were able to recover. I highly doubt anybody was confident in that actually happening, although there was mild optimism because they had supposedly found "something" in his shoulder during the surgery. He went on to have further unfortunate setbacks in his rehab and another surgery. There's really no 'I told you so's' to be made. The reason you found yourself in so many debates about Prior was because you repeatedly made (essentially) baseless claims that he was on steroids. Pitchers don't have to be former steroid users to break down. Just ask Dusty. I'm not into the I told you so but the fact that this thread continues to be one is beating a dead horse. You are wrong about the info on Prior as well. You continue to harp on the steroid issue but that wasn't all I said but it seems to be all you can remember since it helps your point.
  17. Anyone know how Prior is doing? I keep waiting for him to pitch and for some reason I don't see him on an active roster even though I was told many times he'd be back soon by many posters. Maybe Budhouse wasn't the only poster that was wrong and we should bring those threads back every time Prior is on the DL.
  18. Beane has no clue on what he's doing, why would he have Murton in the minors? Or, is it we just complain about Hendry doing this.
  19. Padilla just went on the DL and Millwood has been hurt (not sure if he still is). Now is as good a time as any to let Texas know they have options. Expensive options, but options nonetheless. Heck, if Texas would pick up most of Marquis' contract, that's all I'd ask in return. Then we can read in the transactions page tomorrow that: Cubs trade Marquis to Texas for nobody. Wouldn't that be fun? Moving Him would help ease Hardens salary as well or make it an opening for a good bat. Isn't Harden's option year pretty reasonable too? It would be nice to unload Jason just to open up some salary for a bat. I thought their salaries were a wash? What I always wanted to do was to deal for Blaylock (Tex) and move him to second base.

  21. I liked Edmonds's comment on it a lot. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=216775&src=152 Jeeze...DeRo can't hit anybody can he? :D
  22. MarquisFan.
  23. Marshall being sent down is the best option at this time imo. It gives Hendry some leverage and time to move Marquis.
  24. I really thought that Vitters and/or Hill would have been moved for a pitcher of this caliber. Maybe it's a good thing Hill and Pie have struggled (possibly decreasing their trade value) early and now they can turn it on and help the Cubs in September.
  25. As long as he is healthy for 4 more months Even if he's on the field as little as Nomar was, it's still a good move. It gives the Cubs a legit chance just to have him in their control. Harden could start 20 more times and throw 20 shutouts and it doesn't guarantee anything. This is a good deal. The Cubs gave up some talent, but nobody that had a clear cut spot in the near future. I think it is a great great trade. We didn't even lose Vitters unless there is a PTBNL that has not been announced. Why did you have to write that? I hope George moves in with you after he leaves the White house now.
