  1. Can Mench play right? I don't know if Mench is a big enough upgrade to bench Murton over. He started 36 games in right this year.
  2. Send him some equally young arms for Mench. He's got the keys, you know he wants to drive.
  3. The problem with prospects is that since we can already anticipate having Rule 5 problems with the 40 man roster, adding additional prospects with a value equal to Walker would just create more problems.
  4. What does Vizcaino's sexual preferences have to do with pinch hitting? :-s i honestly don't know how that bi got in there, i don't remember it. cosmic. forget the g in big? Or maybe the r in rbi?
  5. I haven't tried to pull evidence to prove this, but my impression is that managers (or coaches in other sports) rarely actually fulfill the last year of their contract. They are either fired or extended. And that's probably a good idea. The final year of the contract is just a pre-negotiated severance package.
  6. lol-I actually spit up Henry Weinhards when I read that...lol Henry Weinhards - I miss that
  7. What could Williamson command as a free agent? If it's less than $2 million, then we can decline the option and try to sign him at a market rate, maybe a lower base with some incentives a la Nomar.
  8. That's cause the league doesn't know him yet. Once the league knows him, he will be lucky to get a double. You're kidding, right? Dustyism. To be properly recognized, all Dustyisms must include the word dude at least once.
  9. If Maddux is a mediocre #4, then all but 1 NL team has a mediocre #4. Based on qualifying pitchers, Maddux ranks 33rd in ERA. Only St. Louis has more than 3 pitchers higher than Maddux (they have 5  ). Maddux would be the 4th starter for Houston, Florida, Mets, Nats and Brewers, 3rd for the Cubs, Braves, Dodgers and Reds, #2 for San Diego, Arizona, Philly and SanFran, and he would be the ace of the staff for Pittsburg and Colorado. If you want other stats there's WHIP (rank = 12th), OnBaseAgainst (14th). I wish my mediocre investments would perform as well.
  10. That's a straight line hard to pass up, but this is a family web site.
  11. I think he needs to partner up with Kenny Rogers, letting Rogers pitch the first half of the year and Maddux the second. But let Maddux do all the talking.
  12. Why have such big milestones? Why not $3 million base and $10,000 per plate appearance? You could have somebody from the front office meet him as he gets back to the dugout with a stack of $100's.
  13. No one asked for my input, but frankly I'm much more concerned about the compromise of the criminal justice system associated with the leak of sealed grand jury testimony than about anything related to the game of baseball. If witnesses in grand jury proceedings cannot be confident in the ability of the system to maintain the secrecy of sealed documents our security is at risk. There are good reasons why grand jury testimony is not public, and we are all worse off for the leaks.
  14. So what illegal supplements do you think Nolan Ryan was on? No way his body holds up for an average of 200+ innings/year for 6 years age 40-45, right? Julio Franco must just drink steroids. Apparantly with every meal. The fact that he's still playing at that age (and playing well) amazes me. His reported age is 47, yet there are still a few people who think he may be a little older. Even if he is "only" 47, what he's accomplished is impressive. He doesn't show any signs of slowing down either. Certainly some people will be physically blessed (ignoring the fact the comparison is flawed since Franco is not a better player today than when he was 26), but we know Bonds "unknowingly" used steroids from his grand jury testimony. And we know this because it was written in the newspaper. And newspapers never lie. Since I haven't followed this very closely, has anyone in a position of authority confirmed on the record the accuracy of the grand jury testimony?

  16. I don't know his splits, but Greenberg is a lefty also. Interestingly, for this year, Lofton's average is higher against lefty's, although his OBP is worse because he's only had one walk against lefty's.
  17. It would make sense from a baseball standpoint but the Trib probably doesn't look at this from a "we have the money let's spend it now" perspective when they can defer payment for at least 2 years. A big corporation like the Trib. would invest that money to make it grow rather than make a bigger, up front payment. An individual player would also invest that money to make it grow. Both sides of the negotiation are going to be looking at the present value of the guaranteed payments, regardless of the timing of the payments.
  18. Still no video link??
  19. Wouldn't he need manager class?
  20. Well guys, I've got to go out now, but keep up the support. Oh, Craig just missed a dinger!
  21. Holy moly, Pinto gets a double off the wall on his first hit of the year!!
  22. DJaxx lineup (according to MiLB): Patterson, E 2B Greenberg RF McGehee, C 3B Craig 1B Sing LF Coats, B CF Reyes C Rojas SS Pinto P
  23. I like the caption on the picture: Don't get mad - don't get even - get further ahead!
