  1. Ummmmm....He does realize we don't currently have a RF, right? Unless he considers Patterson or Mabry to be it. Here... we.... go... again.... Where we going? Not sure...but we seem to be in a handbasket? But the road is paved with good intentions.
  2. Although I don't think he has a lot of trade value with a big contract and NTC, but to say that Maddux is a 5th starter is a bit of a stretch. I looked at 3 different stats for last year to get a feel for where Maddux would fit on other staffs. Using ERA, he ranked 61st overall among qualifying pitchers. He would have been the 3rd or better starter on 17 teams. He wouldn't even have made # 5 for the Cards, but he would have been the 3rd best for Atlanta, and #2 for the Yankees and Red Sox (of course the Yankees only had 2 qualifying pitchers!!). He would have been the staff ace for 5 teams. Since we put so much emphasis on OBP for hitters around here, I also looked at OBA. There, he ranked 35th overall with a .308. (tied with new White Sox J. Vazquez). On only one team would he have been the 5th starter, that being your WS champs. He would have been 3rd or better on 25 teams. And finally, on innings pitched, he ranked 13th overall. The only rate stats that were worse than ERA related to the long ball, but even there only 11 teams had 3 or more pitchers with a better HR/IP. It's clear he would have been at least a #3 on over half the teams last year. I think that qualifies him as a legit #3 pitcher.
  3. I'd prefer to see Ronny hitting leadoff. I think that is where his future is at in the Majors, assuming he pans out and becomes a decent everyday player in the league. Nah, he doesn't walk enough - his .400 OBP is only .033 higher than his .367 AVG.
  4. Isn't the whole point of being a GM trying to see value where others don't, and taking advantage of your players that are overvalued? The whole goal is to get the players who will outperform the market's expectations, and trade away those the market has overvalued. With that as the objective, you can't judge the trades relative to expectations at the time the trade was made.
  5. I don't know if the rangers have a surplus of outfielders in general, but if they got Patterson they would corner the market on good glove/cant hit center fielders, with Nix, Mathews Jr. and Patterson. They would be in it for the pitching, and Williams and Welly aren't nearly enough.
  6. Tigres win 8-3, Cedeno (SS) 1-5, 2K, error Ronny now batting 4th in Tigres lineup. Caribes lose 7-6, Greenberg 0-0 came in to pinch-run Leones win 4-3, Blanco © 2-4, double, sac bunt; remember Macias? (LF) 1-5, RBI
  7. I think the 2 words are "da nile". As long as the Sox success can be attributed to luck, there is less incentive to look in the mirror and look objectively at one's self. I guess all we've proved is money won't buy you luck.
  8. 12/13 Caribes win 10-7 - Greenberg 0-0 came in as 9th inning defensive replacement. Tigres lose 8-7, Cedeno (SS) 2-5, triple, 2 RBI, sac bunt. For those believing in situational hitting, the sac bunt advanced the tying run from 2nd to 3rd in the top of the 9th, forcing the game into extra innings. Leones win 3-1, Blanco DNP, Macias (LF) 2-4, 2B, RBI
  9. 12/11 The real Pinto now shows up (and yes, I know he's been traded) Tigres win 7-0, Cedeno (SS) 3-4, 2B, CS Caribes win 2-0, Pinto gets the win 6IP, 2H, 2BB, 6k Leones win 8-0, Blanco © 1-4, R, RBI; Macias (LF) 0-3, BB, R, K
  10. 12/10 Ronny shows some power and Macias walks Tigres lose 6-4, Cedeno (SS) 2-4, HR, RBI, R Caribes win game 1 5-1, Greenberg (CF) 0-2, K, HBP Caribes lose game 2 10-3, Greenberg (CF) 1-2, K, BB Leones win 6-4, Blanco © 1-2, 2BB; Macias (LF) 1-2, R, BB
  11. But his OBP = AVG, you couldn't walk him if you tried.
  12. 12/9 Tigres over Leones 9-4 Cedeno (SS), 1-3, triple, 3RBI, R, BB Blanco ©, 1-4, R, BB, K The dearly missed Macias (LF), 2-5, 2B Caribes lose 3-0, Greenberg DNP[tab]
  13. 12/8 Tigres win 5-4, Cedeno (SS) 1-5, K Caribes win 10-4, Greenberg DNP
  14. Why would Texas want Patterson? They already have 2 good glove/no hit CF's in Nix and Mathews. If you want Mench send them some pitching. I think the Soriano deal shows Daniels isn't going to get fleeced.
  15. So now Daniels is the new boy wonder of the GM world? If he can turn some of those OF's into some pitching the Rangers could be looking good.
  16. In case you haven't seen it yet....you can stop reporting Macias' results. :D Yeah, I saw that, but in some perverse way it puts the rest of the Venezuela results in perspective.
  17. 12/7 Caribes win 5-2 Greenberg (CF) 0-1, BB, R Leones win 5-3 Macias (LF) 2-4, R, 2K; Blanco 2-3, BB, RBI Tigres (Cedeno) off
  18. Well, before the Jackson Sun gets so high and mighty saying that ownership and the city both need to contribute, they should look in the metaphorical mirror. The Sun could do a lot more to help. They generally provide game coverage only for home games. The sports home page does not have a link dedicated to the only professional sports franchise in town. I have followed several of the different minor league clubs and the Sun's coverage is among the worst.
  19. Everything else aside, exactly HOW are the Dodgers of all teams better than us in that department?
  20. 12/3 Caribes win 9-1. Greenberg (CF) 1-4, 2B, BB, R - this is the first game I've noticed where Adam started and did not lead off - he hit 7th. Tigres win 12-5. Cedeno (SS) 1-3, RBI, SB, error Leones lose 8-2. Blanco © 0-4, 3K And some guy J. Macias (LF) 2-4 - after 2 games he's .556, .556, .667 12/4 Caribes rained out Tigres win 4-3, Cedeno (SS) 1-3, 2B, R, SB Next games are 12/7
  21. Could it be that even though the Dodgers don't have a manager yet, when they get one he will likely have a contract at least as long as Furcal's? While the entire Cubs management team are basically in lame duck status - playing out the last year of their contracts. I don't want this to be interpreted as encouraging extensions for Hendry, Baker, et al, but I could understand a player wondering who's going to be running the show next year. An organization that has not had the confidence to extend the contracts of its leadership is not sending a message of continuity. Again, I'm not encouraging an extension at this point, but I think at the end of last season they should have either been extended or fired.
  22. 12/2 Final Tigres beat Caribes 8-5 Cedeno (SS) 2-3, 3B, 2R, 2RBI, SF, BB Leones win 3-2 Blanco © 1-3, BB
  23. Ronny added a sac fly in the 6th.
  24. Ronny grounded out in the 3rd, but R. Cedeño (SS) conectó sencillo al jardín central. and M. Prado (2B) conectó doble impulsor al jardín izquierdo. R. Cedeño (SS) anotó desde primera. in the 5th (I think that's a single and a score from 1st on a double)
  25. 12/2 Watching the progress tonight - Caribes are playing Tigres, but Greenberg is not in the starting lineup. Cedeno has an RBI triple in the 1st inning. Here's the live link if interested: Link
