  1. Why do you say that? For cost reasons, the owner has instructed the president and GM to gut the team - that is what they're doing. But surely they were instructed to get the maximum return for said gutting.
  2. Don't know what the plans were, but here's the facts Stats Link Cedeno has played 23 games, all at SS.
  3. If the Cards expect that Monday "deadline" to be a promise, they're really, really dumb. Setting a deadline the day Winter Meetings begin is a pretty obvious negotiation move. As a life-long Arkansan, I really appreciate you talking crap about me and the other citizens of the state. When a native Chicagoan wants to play for the Cubs it's called "coming home." When an Arkansan wants to play for the Cards (Arkansas is historically a Cardinal state) it' called wanting to be a "hill billy." I would have thought someone who chose the name BHogg would be able to take a hillbilly joke. :)
  4. Here's a link for current stats: Stats Link I don't know how often they update those numbers, but Cedeno is at .347, .382, .400 avg/obp/slg. As someone noted yesterday on the Emergency board, there's no power there, but good avg & obp.
  5. Not so much. Is it a situation where you may have to archive old posts? Yep, that's precisely what it is coming to. I've been working with the ISP to try and tune mysql to handle the size of that one table, but it hasn't been working very well. Obviously. Any DBA's around? Yeah, but they're holding out for a 5 year / $50 million guaranteed contract.
  6. If there are several teams interested in the player you are desperate to get rid of, how do they decide which one gets him for less than market value? Now if you make statements that have the effect of lowering the market value that's a different issue. Well, when ALL of them are offering less than market value, then you're pretty much stuck no matter who you go with, aren't you? I'm looking at it from the perspective of the potential buyers. In my scenario several teams are interested in a player and only one is going to get him. If you are one of the teams that does not get the valuable player at a below market price, how do you explain that you were willing to miss out on a good player because you were unwilling to top a below market offer?
  7. 12/1 Caribes lose 9-5, no action for Pinto or Greenberg Tigres win 11-5, Cedeno (SS) 2-4, 2RBI, 2R Leones lose 3-2, Blanco © 2-4, RBI

  9. If the Red Sox think they can get Abreu for Manny, I don't think there's much we can offer them either.
  10. It's kind of like methadone for NSBB junkies.
  11. Caribes and Tigres were both off, but the headline of the baseball news of the day was our own Henry Blanco, or White Henry as the Google translation had it. His Leones won 7-5, and Henry went 2-4, HR, 2B, R, 3 RBI http://deportes.eluniversal.com/2005/11/30/30301s1%20copia.jpg El receptor Henry Blanco fue el líder en la ofensiva de la tropa de Omar Malavé (Foto Paulo Pérez Zambrano) According to Google the translation of the caption is "The receiver White Henry was the leader in the offensive of the troops of Omar Malavé."
  12. If I had Jimbo's ear, we'd be signing Giles. Even at 5/$55?
  13. Unfortunately that only works as long as no one else wants him either. If multiple teams are interested in him, there will be competition.
  14. So the only way the Cubs can get him is by overpaying? That's one way of looking at it, but to me, overpaying is paying more than you would have to - as in, he would have been willing to sign with the Cubs for 5/$50 but we offered 5/$55.
  15. What do you think he'll do with the arm once he moves it. My guess is pick up a doughnut. I can usually resist laughing out loud, but ...
  16. 11/28 Tigres lose 7-1, Cedeno (SS) 2-4 Caribes were off
  17. I don't see Texas having an interest in Patterson when they already have 2 similar CF's in Nix and Mathews. Keep Patterson and throw in more pitching prospects. I see lots of Rangers games and I think Soriano gets excessive criticism. His defense is frustrating because he can make the outstanding play, but then boot the routine play (maybe he needs to be tested for ADD?). And the Rangers are going to need another corner OF if you take both Mench and Delucci.
  18. I've been watching Cedeno fairly closely in Venezuela and I believe he has played SS exclusively.
  19. 11/27 Tigres win 3-2, Cedeno (SS) 2-4, R, K Caribes win 11-6, Greenberg was off Pinto still working the rust off: 0.1 inning, 1H, 1ER, 3BB, including walking in a run.
  20. 11/23 Caribes win 9-3, Greenberg (CF), 0-5, RBI, 2K Tigres lose 8-6, Cedeno (SS), 2-4, 2B, BB, R 11/25 Caribes lose 10-5, Greenberg (CF) 0-3, RBI, R, BB, 2K, HBP Cedeno didn't play 11/24 or 11/25 11/26 Tigres win 8-2, Cedeno (SS), 0-3, K, sac bunt Caribes game still in progress - Pinto sighting! 1 batter faced, walked Edit: Greenberg 1-4, K
  21. 11/22 Caribes lose 7-5. Greenberg (CF) 2-3, 2R, BB, error Tigres lose 7-6. Cedeno (SS) 1-4, error
  22. Yeah, our farm system is slim for sure. Not that i'm complaining but the Cards like to deal what little prospects they do have for established big league talent. Why are you here and how are you contributing to this discussion about whether the Cubs could possibly acquire Bobby Abreu without giving up Felix Pie? If you want to toot the Cardinals horn, please, go someplace else. I thought he was just trying to get a fair assessment of Felix Pie? Go easy man. Maybe earlier in this thread, but not in the post I quoted. It looked to me like a straightforward response to Vance's comment about the Cardinals system - it makes sense that a Cards fan would have a useful contribution on that comment.
  23. If you can do it consistently for years I don't think you can call it luck. I don't know what it is, but if it was luck it would even out over the years.
  24. Here's a link to the full article: Link
  25. 11/20 Caribes had a double header: Game 1, Caribes win 7-2, Greenberg (CF) 2-3, HR, Double, 2R, RBI, BB Game 2, Caribes lose 2-6, Greenberg (CF) 1-3 Tigres win 5-4, Cedeno (SS) 2-4, BB
