  1. These issues may be somewhat related only in that people all over the world tend to not give it their all in most things they do. However, none of us (or few of us I should say) are making a living by providing our thoughts on message boards. In fact, many of us are using laptops and typing while having an adult beverage or reclining after a hard day's work. I don't see a strong comparison b/w that and a major league player running out each ball he/she hits. And frankly, I'm not certain how it has become an accepted practice. Managers are responsible for their team's production, correct? Their job largely depends on their team winning. Could this be about managers losing authority with their team because the ever increasing salaries of today's players? Nope. For major leaguers it is their JOB to play hard. That's what they are paid to do. Now if you would be nonchalant with your reports at work and not pay attention to spelling and grammar in the office, then that would be a more apt analogy. I don't think I'm the problem in the workplace, although there are people who work for me and around me... I guess I mentioned it because both things hit the same emotional chord with me - "I knew I was out" sounds a lot like "You know what I meant".
  2. Could the acceptance of nonchalant baserunning in baseball be related to the same societal issues as sloppy spelling and grammar on internet message boards?
  3. Sign up for premium and you can choose your own description - maybe Murton should bribe his way into the lineup!
  4. I suppose the folks at Baseball America "have no clue" since they generally rely on second hand information and statistics in their rankings and writeups? I'm pretty confident that BA has better sources and resources than the average fan. Naturally, NSBB members cannot be considered average fans. :)
  5. Has Ron commented on Craig not playing in either game today?
  6. What was your name before that? CPatt4Prez I believe. This is true. Nuff said.
  7. Any feedback on the auctions at West Tenn?
  8. Close my friend... I like speed in the 7th spot.... Hairston Walker Lee Ramirez Burnitz Barrett Patterson Cedeno/Perez The reason why I want Walker hitting 2nd is simple baseball logic that Baker fails to place any importance on... With a higher OBP guy leading off and assume he gets on.... 1. The 1B will be holding the runner on 1B 2. The 2B will likely be in DP depth. 3. The hole will be huge on the right side of the IF between 1B and 2B 4. Walker has above avg. bat control and more than anyone on the team has the ability to shoot the ball thru that gap. 5. Walker has one of the higher OBPs. If this logic is correct (and it sounds good to me) would we not then expect such a hitter to have a higher than average BABIP, since more of his hits would be likely to find holes?
  9. Cool. Just remember, you don't have to agree with everyone, just keep the disagreement civil. For an example, refer to the role model in JC's avatar.
  10. Andy pitched the 7th against the Rangers tonight, came in 1 run down, left 2 runs down, giving up a HR to Richard Hidalgo and a single to Michael Young, as well as 2K's and a ground out. ERA is now 3.04.
  11. Forget the tech business, Tim, you should be selling ice cubes to the Eskimo's! :P
  12. Maybe he took a whole night off to finalize the cure for that AIDS thingie.
  13. I like Hoffpauir a lot, but as a flexible bench player I would think Craig would be ahead of Hoffpauir, playing 3rd and 1st, switch-hitting, more power.
